@Paul A Been on site for about 30 yrs. A general contractor worth his salt will have a dedicated clean-up employee(s). Why should a customer pay skilled-trade wages for the skilled worker to operate a broom, when the same work can be done for 1/3 the cost while the skilled tradesperson can keep creating a profit to justify their wage ? When you get an oil change at the dealer with a complimentary car wash, do you think the ASE mechanic is washing it? In hospitals, different tier work is done by different tier pay. Same is true the world over -- if its well-designed to be fair to the customer.

I have literally never seen a single commercial 20a outlet circuit pigtailed. My guess is better “commercial grade” outlets don’t have this issue.
@mrromantimothy
@mrromantimothy Жыл бұрын
That is called pigtailing, you have three different types of connections stab-lok where you push the wire into the back, side wiring where you have 2 screws on each side of the device, never push wires into the back or use wagos it's a fire hazard I'm going to start taking photos of all the melted boxes and outlets caused by someone using wagos(they may work fine in the UK where they use twice the voltage for receptacles) a screw on the side when tightened correctly will have 1,000lb of Force, a wire nut is the most desirable termination it has a spring inside of it, it will stay tight through expansion and contraction of the conductors, I do custom homes so I pigtail everything , wire nuts for the hot neutral and ground and the three pigtails side wired to the device. Pigtailing is required for all commercial work.
@rogermoore2170
@rogermoore2170 Жыл бұрын
I would add a pigtail for both the hot and neutral. Have seen too many receptacles overheat when used as a junction for the circuit.
@chaddcox5360

Well she did below average to that point. Her pull is too horizontal and aggressive and greatly increases the risk of "skinning" the wire. The grounds she zipped together with the nut should have been twisted by hand using the knurls on lineman's pliers prior to nutting. For that simple two wire tie she should be using a yellow nut not a red. Speed seems to be the driving theme and unfortunately that is a pretty good indicator that she will end up stripping and stabbing her connections to the outlet rather than screwing them down. True mastery only shows when you are actually screwing down the connections and setting the outlet at the right depth to make it perfectly flat and level to the Decora faceplate once it is installed. It's a new construction which eliminates most of the unforeseeable and problematic variables. What we see here is textbook "what not to do" when installing an outlet. Frankly, it's this type of sloppy reckless work that can create serious hazards in the future, but you do get what you pay for. Lol

@@theladyelectrician7476 I'm glad to see you keep tabs on your site. I respect your passion for the work you do. I also understand that you aren't the one bidding the jobs so you have no input in determining the necessary balance between quality and speed to turn a profit. My comment wasn't so much of an attack on you or how you were trained as it is on the state of the industry. Quality--- irrelevant. Quantity/speed---The ONLY priority. Piece work...fast, faster, fastest....cheap, cheaper, cheapest....drives the industry today. But at what cost? The average homeowner doesnt notice the quality of the electrical work while they're signing their first loan docs. So meticulously creating a top quality end product probably goes completely unnoticed....until it doesnt. The installation time of stapling Romex vs the time to run flex or conduit? Wires being twisted with a screw gun powered nut rather than being twisted or "blended" using linemans pliers first and then nutted by hand afterward? I don't pretend to know how you do all of your work all of the time. I only have the videos you post. You may know how to do things right on jobs where that is a priority. You might know how to scew down connections rather than just doing strip and stab. IDK. What I do know is that when there is a need for speed, corners get cut. The more corners cut, the greater the risk of future catastrophe. Installing electrical quickly can be rewarding but it comes with a high risk and an even higher responsibility. Ultimately, you are the one who has to balance that equation.

Sure she is. She spent an hour setting up that little stunt. Precutting the wire insulation and then faking like she did it inside the box, preloading that cute little wire nut in the drill, setting up the camera, etc. A real electrician doesn't waste time recording the most basic of tasks he performs hundreds of times every week. Because it's a menial task and in no way special enough to record. It's the equivalent of a McDonald's worker making you wait at the window while he sets up the camera to record himself boxing up your French fries.

The guys in my residential class joked me cuz I would sit on the floor and do my receptacles just like this til they realized I worked faster than they did lol. The best part was (being the only female in class) and my instructor said “conductors need to be at least 6 inches from the back of the box. We all know how big 6 inches is…except for Sam. She’s been lied to her whole life about how big 6 inches is” HAHAHAHA best day in class

One way I found to do it slightly faster is when you strip the sheathing, put the grounds together and pull the paper off both at the same time and then they are already in your hands, cut, and twist. Not much faster but faster nonetheless.

I dont do my grounds that way, but so glad to see you accordion the wires back into the box instead of that crappy roll em up around your fingers way. Most noobs think its faster, and it may be, but it leaves the short end of the wire close to outside of box so sheetrockers can cut the wires up. Very nice job. I also never use any kind of drills or attachments when making up any taps. You kids and your new age contraptions. Lolol. Keep it up, we need skilled tradesmen, and women in this world!!

All the way from powerhouses, to a garbage disposal outlet. I have had an electrician license before there was any kind of state license, Certified, educated. Maybe one day you can hold my Kliens, while I take a drink of my coffee. Yes I can still weld my own conduit, etc support structures too.
