@@mcatoz3438 Planning on it, I was thinking to turn it into a server or a secondary pc for browsing; could also just use it as a hobby to learn how to build a pc by myself. My gaming pc is three years old, and I think it'd be fun to do another piece by piece build. (Hopefully with ddr5 and an atx build not micro-atx)

A GTX 660 can literally run Battlefield 3 on high/max. Still an alright GPU today if you know how to tweak settings.

@@Snufflegrunt Geforce Experience has driver support + you can run 2024 titles on it too. 2gb VRAM is enough for a lot of games. Obiviously not AAA+ released this year but you'd be surprised if you tried running games on it.

@@emilflarsen2 GeForce Experience isn’t a driver. Nvidia don’t release drivers for the GTX 660 and therefore a lot of games simply won’t even start. Of course it’ll run most indie games lol.

I noticed you have a K variant cpu there. A more fair comparison would be to overclock it to as far as you can and until temps thermal throttle or crashes push it to the limit you could probably beat that MacBook

The cpu cooler is actually in the best configuration for air flow . Puget systems after years of research decided to orientate the cpu coolers pushing air upwards. It helps move heat out of the case quick. It pulls heat from the gpu to the cpu and from there exhausts out the psu. In pugets systems set up its all open no psu in the way but it shouldn't matter. The person that build that knew a lot about air flow

LOL dude, I remember learning this at first... when it comes to cleaning old school cases like that, feel under the front of the plastic cover. There's usually a gap there for airflow and to grip in order to yank the cover off. If not, take both side panels off, there are some clips on the inside that you can unclip one by one as you pull. Just mind that there are likely cables still attached when you remove it. Have fun!

benchmarks to reccomend Cinebench R23, Furmark1 or 2, and 3DMark, Cinebench properly stresses 100% of the cpu, Furmark is also a GPU stress test, although sometimes 3dmark heats the GPU up more.

I think your SATA cable isn't a SATA 6GB one, you may change that.

I personally spread the thermal paste across the cpu with an expired CC, cus before I have put too much before, just putting a few drops in the middle might be a bad idea IMO.

I only needed to see those three heatpipes and I already knew it was an asus 660, I had that graphics card for a while now, it's a pretty good for being that old! Also, I don't think that you should use acetone to clean thermal paste, use alcohol

I almost exclusively use acetone to remove thermal paste because it’s really strong, non conductive, and causes cancer.

I’m 99,9% sure that windows activation servers / motherboard will remember that key so you can do clean install and after connecting PC to the internet it will get activated automatically

I'd recommend you the GD-2 thermal paste, it's pretty cheap like $4 for 30gram syringe. It performs similar with my arctic mx-6.

Cpu cooler is imo facing the right way. It's pulling air upwards which is the natural escape point for heat anyway. Only negative part is the powersupply is then the exhaust in this computer case. Pretty good at the time though probably. Ca 2006 - 2008 I'd say the computer case is from. Maybe old stock or reused from a previous build with something like a core 2 quad or 1st gen AMD phenom processor. Some of these cases can get collectible btw & go up in price past 100£. Like i know the aluminium lian li cases are going up in price from this time period. Some old antec, thermaltake & other brands are getting desirable again as well. Besides ram upgraded with a 2nd 8 gb stick Another edit (*Oh it had 2 4 gb sticks*) an ssd for a boot drive & some games. Maybe a gpu upgrade too like a gtx 1060 6 gb that pc is ready for some e-sports titles tbh. Also the fan loosens by pulling the plastic frame on the side rather then pulling it apart like you did lol, just got too that part of the video.

@@conseptcomputers With the heatsink repositioned, add a rear extract fan. BIOS is wayyyy old, not sure if there is any performance gain from newer. Could disable Spectre/Meltdown fixes using INSPECTRE K CPU vs H board is limited, you should be able to set the core multiplier to 38 for all, not sure if the H board would allow/honour setting them higher (AI overclock tuner to XMP might set full all core boost anyway) And then there's Afterburner for the GPU

Any time there's any type of active airflow, you easily overcome convection. The power supply can easily handle the load this system produces, so it works as an exhaust fan for the system, which is lacking a real exhaust fan. If the whole system had front to back airflow, it'd be better. Especially because you wouldn't be sucking in hot air from the back of the GPU straight into the CPU cooler.

Fyi for GPUs you really wanna spread the paste and not rely on pressure. The heatsinks aren't made to distribute it evenly as there's no IHS present. You wanna cover every little corner yourself.

Facebook marketplace finds like this are hidden gems of a past time (especially when it comes to computer hardware). But 20 Quid. For that? There's people in my area selling systems like that for north of £100. It's good that it's help up it's own against a macbook several times more expensive.

TBH for 20 quid thats is great value and you can always upgrade the ssd and graphics card later on. Or find a cpu that it much more powerful for that MB. It has good foundations. 20 Quid

Honestly I don't think the orientation of the cooler was really an issue, if it's blowing into the power supply, the PSU fan should still be taking that air and dumping it out the back of the case, you maybe could even argue having it blowing into the PSU was better thermally. Would have been cool to test. (nb4 you maybe end up doing that, since I'm only half way done with the video)

He didn't update GPU drivers at all, he started testing just after a factory reset. Don't know if that affected the test.

Judging by how the GPU is a massive bottleneck, and that it came with no drivers, I think the seller kept the whatever GPU he was using and whacked that in that POS instead. I mean, with a semi-decent card, that PC is still alright for most games. Honestly, not bad for £20. £80 more of upgrades - a 1050Ti (or RX580 if the PSU isn't trash) and maybe another 8GB RAM, and boom, you're gaming.
