As someone who is in the watch repair business, I called MVMT out in the beginning. 99% marketing company/1% watch company. But, today it seems like the market is being flooded with these brands popping up everywhere! Make it stop.

Cadisen is a pretty high quality watch brand. Good materials, nice designs. Unlike MVMT, which frankly sets its prices at insulting levels. Another great, informative and thorough review. Cheers for the content.

Just confirming what we all knew, MVMT are throwing their logo on cheap Chinese watches and increasing the price! Love the Cadisen, bargain for the price and would much prefer to have that on wrist than MVMT.

I own a cadisen, using everyday for a year. This thing is fucking great. Paid 30$ for a c1032, it has nh36a movement, Saphire crystal, solid and well built casing, came in a nice bracelet... It was a steal

What really blows my head off is how MVMT markers itself as selling you a watch at very fair price, cutting out the middleman. WTF.

I have a cadisen automatic mechanical on the way and am looking forward to receiving it. I have a number of Chinese watches that I bought off of AliExpress and I am happy with all of them.

I've bought a couple of cadisens from Ali express there always excellent value and quality for the price

I would love to see brands like Rotary or Sekonda reviewed. I always see them in a jelwellery shop window but rarely see them on KZfaq wristwatch channels.

I've picked up a couple of Cadisen watches and the quality is really decent considering the price. It's a shame more people aren't willing to a little research before parting with their hard earned.

They both look great. But I would take the Cadisen because it's got the better glass. I'd even spend the 45-60 on an 821A movement to fire into it to make it perfect, and still get a ~150 dollar discount. And at this point, I would even pay EXTRA money to avoid the MVMT logo.

Whilst I love the diameter of the Arc, but in my opinion the Cadisen one is the rational watch to buy. Why paid £200 more to downgrade to mineral crystal and only paid for the brand only? The Arc isn't a bad watch also, but the price and the spec are really insulting. Cadisen is ice cold MVMT, well, uncool.

I will say that while the mvmt version probably hit the international market first, the cadisen was probably around for longer, and was the base model used for mvmt to "design" their watch off of, which most likely uses the same case (of course with different finishing, which would esplain the slightly smaller dimensions, if it was further machined and made to be a matte finish) and the crystal being different, etc is all "standard" options for when a company approaches a chinese manufacturer to produce their products. They submit a design and the chinese company goes through their already established designs for a similar "skeleton" ot start on, OR, the company picks a preexisting design, then submits the changes they want, and the factory modifies their tooling to make the new product, and a minimum order is decided upon, payment is made, and they go to work. The Cadisen is the "base" watch that the factory used to make the mvmt watch from. This happens all the time with COUNTLESS products from guitars and drums to disposable razors. I know this because I have ran a business at one point where chinese manufacturing was a possibility, and that is exactly how they appraoched my needs. I said "I need this product made to these specs" and they said "oh great, we have 5 products that meet those basic specs, pick the one you like the best and tell us what changes you want made. We can change XX, YY, and ZZ, with no additional cost and can put whatever logo you want on the item. For an additional tooling fee we can change XXX, YYY, or ZZZ. Let us know what changes you would like made and we will quote you a lead time" That's why these watches are so similar, and its not because cadisen copied mvmt. Its because mvmt bought the manufacturing modifications to turn the cadisen that already existed into the mvmt. And this Cadisen may not have even had a name at the time mvmt bought the modifications and commisioned the factory to make the arc, AND, it could have also been released under countless different names prior to mvmt under different asian brands in the asian market. Who knows. But I do absolutely know that this is how chinese manufacturing works when it comes to making other company products. They will literally pull something directly out of their factories that they've already made with established tooling that meets the basic initial specs of the company's request, offer it, and make the appropriate changes in order to make it brand specific for the company ordering it. IN this way, most of the "work" is already done. In the subject of watches, for example, the basic case design is already done, the basic movement choice(s) have already been made and the case will readily accept them, the hands, dial ornaments, etc have already been nanufactured, etc etc, all that's left is MINOR things like the finish of the case and the final dimensions, the type of crystal, and what logo/name brand gets stamped on the thing. They can even retrofit a lot of watches that have already been manufactured, by shelling the movement out of them, retooling/refinishing the case to the new spec, and then screen printing the brand on the face and/or changing out the movements if necessary, as the case is already designed to accept a few different versions. So these mvmnts may not have even been "made to order" they may have been reworks of pallets and pallets of watches that had already been manufactured, and what we are seeing is the chinese factory selling the unaltered "overstock" with a different name screen printed on them to clear their warehouse space. Its hard to tell, but this stuff happens all day every day when it comes to commisioning china to make products. So whenever you see a REALLY similar item on something lke alibaba, its usually the "parent" item of the name brand that it so closely resembles. Just wanted to put this out there, because not many people know the inner workings of this kind of thing.

I'm wearing a Cadisen watch as I watch this video. Mine is a C5051M, which has an all Tungsten Carbide case and strap, with a sapphire crystal. This model has a quartz movement, so it's only 8mm thick. Between the tungsten and sapphire construction, this watch is super scratch resistant, an was an incredible bargain at only $30, from the Cadisen store on AliExpress. You really can't beat some of these Chinese, "mushroom brands" for value. Cadisen sells a number of interesting models, including one with a Miyota 9015 movement, for around $100, during one of the major sales on AliExpress.

The quality of the leather straps on AliExpress watches is surprisingly good sometimes. Like the Pagani Design "Cocktail time" I recently got for 30€. Only "genuine leather" but smelled like a good new leather shoe (not like plastic) and is comfortable. Heck, I don't know what brands like Mvmt put on their watches as even some "pleather" straps on ultra cheap Chinese watches don't fall apart like that.

If the Cadisen was at 36/38, with 50-100wr, that would be an amazing modern interpretation of a vintage inspired everyday watch

Somehow the Cadisen has better attention to detail. > The little chrome rings around the lume pips. > The winding stem > The finish of the case. (The MVMT is just bead-blasted. They just do that to hide sins.) > The finish of the hands > The little detail around the date window. Honestly I already have two Bambino's so the MVMT would just feel like a copy. The Cadisen looks more appealing.

Ben, you have a really good attitude and your videos are informative and fun to watch, so it pains me to see that you have so few subscribers. I would recommend you do a collaboration with some more prominent watch review channels like for instance Teddy Baldassarre, i think that would boost your views tremendously, because you certainly deserve it. As long as people wear watches I don’t care much which one, thankfully we all have different tastes otherwise the world would be a boring place. Great video to educate people on watches and what they should look for when it comes to quality

I can't believe I'm saying this about a MVMT watch, but I think it goes on the low end of cool. I think it's a big step up for them. I like the case a lot. It's attractive. I like the way the strap looks, although it may go quickly. I don't like the mineral crystal, and I don't like the price. I wouldn't personally buy one, but it's a big improvement for them. I think the Cadisen goes on the high end of cool. It looks much the same, although I don't like the shiny finish as much, but it more than makes up for it with an excellent price and sapphire crystal. (My rule these days is, if a watch costs more than $50, it *must* have sapphire crystal and *must* be automatic. The Cadisen has both.)

The Cadisen has now doubled in value due to demand (I guess?), which STILL makes it half the cost of the MVMT. Which is hilarious.

As an aside to this video, I think a lot of people, including watch collectors are really sleeping on soviet made mechanical watches. There’s tons of well made ones that look great and can be had for pretty cheap on ebay. I picked up a Raketa Big Zero not too long ago and I love it as a purely fashion watch.

The MVMT surprisingly did a good job on decorating the movement

I bought a Cadisen Diamond, about 67£ during the 10th anniversary sales for a miyota 9015 watch, hilarious, I bought it just out of curiosity, thinking I would have given it to my dad or a friend, as a gift. Well, I was so impressed that I kept it in my own collection, I would have never thought it but I do like (except for the strap). I bought it before Cadisen moved to the so called homages, I call it legalized fakes, I don't want to feed this kind of market, but I must admit the watch is beautiful and well made, chapeau.

At £139 the MVMT would be a well priced watch. Assuming both watches cost the seller about £29 when purchased in bulk, what MVMT is doing, with a 10x multiple, isn't very unusual. I've worked with retail lifestyle brands long enough to know that 4x is the minimum multiplier you need to apply to stay afloat and 5x is the norm. There are, however, a lot of brands that apply 10x multiplier across perfume, eyewear, clothing, footwear and watches. Because they can get away with it.

If I had to spend that, I would buy the Timex Waterbury day-date. Cadisen is far the best for the money.

I recommend reviewing steeldive 1954. Awesome watch can't find many flaws except the cheap bracelet, but can't complain for the price.

Let's be fair the MVMT clearly looks better with the domed glass and thinner bezels. But the domed glass is offset by the sapphire material used by the Cadisen. So, I would agree that it could only be recommended at about £150 price point.

I recently discovered chinese micro brand watches and I have to say for the price they are amazing. I just to want MVMT watch but many people said they are horrible which ultimately led me to discovered brands like steeldive, starking, alpha etc.

Thank you for the very informative video! Though I get that you don't get more value in the Mvmt watch, it *is* aesthetically much more refined. I wouldn't say that they look the same, I can see that the Mvmt had much more refined, subtle finishing touches (the silver hands, the silver logo, the grey date numbers, the thinner bezel around the crystal). It's enough for me to say that I would buy the Mvmt but not the knock-off, and tbh I think that design is an aspect that still deserved to be paid for.

I hate to admit that mvmt actually looks really good and i like decorated movement. Thiker indexes and thicker hands of cadisan just make it feel they didn't understand elements of its design as usually mvmt watches have. I wouldn't dare to discard the fact it os a decorated movement. I know it is not a big deal to say other is good as well because we hate fasion brands but on the other hand we rave like crazy over level of decoration on stuff that is for enthusiasts, as well as hacking. If it would be 50e over orient price it would be a full on winner. Price it has is quite steep

While I agree that you have given a fair appraisal of these watches you must also consider that homages of Seiko watches with the exact same Seiko movement (NH35a) inside are also just as cheap on AliX eg Seiko Cocktail time £349 vs Pagani Cocktail homage £49 - seek and ye shall find...

Putting lumen on the hour markers but not on the hands has got to be one of the biggest watch brain farts in history.

I got the mvmt arc at a Movado Company Store at the outlets in my area for around $150. For that price, I think it's a good watch. I think it is a much better value at $150 than other mvmt watches that they had that looked like very cheap quartz watches for the same price. I agree that the Cadisen is the overall better value than the mvmt watch but, if you can get a mvmt arc for $150 or less, you are getting a nice casual/ dressy watch in my opinion.

Please do a wrist watch check at the start of every video. Its very helpful for curious eyes like mine.

Hey. Oddly enough the MVMT website lists the Arc Automatic at 41mm instead of 40mm, but it does look smaller than the 41mm Cadisen... Anyway, great video. Thanks Ben!

I almost bought a MVMT watch because I didn't know any better. I thought they looked neat. Obviously I had no clue what makes for a good watch. Thankfully I saw videos like this one that opened my eyes.

If price difference was more reasonable I would go for the mvmt, the dial design looks better hands and indices look more in proportion and spaced out better. The rotor, brushed/polished combo looks better, the signed crown is better. Above all the logo and brand name is way better. The word cadisen is just a translated Chinese word that doesn't sound like a watch brand at all. It sounds like a construction sheeting material or something.

That Cadison is the bomb! (And nicer than the MVMT). If the second hand were a touch longer it would be spot on.

The two watches are almost identical but visually the Cadisen is the more attractive watch and for me the dark outline on the hands making them stand out is the deal breaker.

MVMT needs to be at the very least 170 bucks cheaper, and upgrade the crystal to sapphire to even hold a candle to the Cadisen... Just cut out the middleman (MVMT), and get the Cadisen directly.

I just asked a girl and she liked the MVMT more because of the beter balanced dial and the nicer looking strap. She does not understand the sapphire thing. She also has Lin Long tires on her car instead of Michelin's .

I would have just went with the Cadisen C8173G. The design is quite similar if slightly more generic, the price is cheaper, it comes with an seiko nh35 instead of a miyota 8215 and its thinner at 12mm thick. The downside being that the case is bigger (42mm).

Fantastic comparison mate, it's funny how the tables have turned. To be honest I prefer the case and movement in the mvmt - never thought I'd say that, but I'd still take the cadisen for the value proposition.

for $300, you can buy an Orient Bambino and an Orient Mako II. then you can treat yourself to a nice dinner with the change, knowing you've made the correct choice in getting yourself properly inside the gate of horology.

Good choice. I have some Cadisen watches from AliExpress, an automatic one (NH35) and some quartzs for me and my wife, and they offer very good value for money. This MVMT is not bad indeed, "not great, not terrible", but it is overpriced - my general rule of thumb is: if a Chinese watch costs "x" on AliExpress, an equivalent watch sold in Europe, with taxes, import duties, and some profit for the importer/seller, should cost between 2 and 2.5 "x"; and we are way over that. For the quality only, both watches would be quite cool, with a preference for the Cadisen for its specs; unfortunately for the MVMT, the price and the bad brand image make it a bit lukewarm. Too bad, because the watch seems good after all.

I was prepared to hate on the MVMT but actually they seem to have made a very nice watch here. The subtle differences in the design really do make it look crisper and more stylish. I have to admit I like this one.

I still wouldn't buy one but clearly MVMT have really upped their game under Movado. The minimal bezel and very domed crystal actually gives it pretty nice aesthetics and is far better than the generic trash that they usually push. The two tone finish on the case looks pretty good (at least on video) and is far above what I would have expected from MVMT. The dial even looks nice for once, instead of the out of proportion crap that usually amounts to a MVMT watch dial. I would put it up to the ownership under a well established "real" watchmaker.

Honestly, I am generally against Chinese watches but I find a nice watch the Cadisen respectable, the reading of the dial seems to me better than the original ...Ultimately I think buying the Cadisen is not a bad deal ...

The MVMT design and crystal looks way better. If only it featured a curved dial as well and they made it a little bit better readable. Maybe Hesalite would also work better than mineral. A non hacking movement Ist very up to date. They even updated the 82xx calibers to hack by now. On the Cadisen I like the black hands and the curved dial. I have a Junghans Meister Agenda in white so I don't have to decide anyway.
