Excellent recap of this year in the war. Thank you for continuing to cover this war. On the resources war front? Ukraine has less than Russia. And Ukraine is highly dependent on Western material and aid. A distinct lack in having air superiority over its own territory? Is unraveling any gains on the ground that Ukraine makes and making it easier to hit Ukraines' inner urban centers and industrial sites. The dependency on Western aid and the air superiority problem? Could end up costing Ukraine this war and its sovereignty, if not solidly addressed first the long haul. Also. The apparent tactic of turning every village and defensible piece of ground or structure into a Russian meat grinder mightve worked in the short term. But unless Ukraine can seriously make concrete moves to toss Puddins orcs out?? Like take vast tracts of ground and hold it indefinitely? This fight isn't going to save Ukraine.
@D3nchanter
@D3nchanter 4 ай бұрын
@@ravenrise320 the thing is, russia has to use long ranged missile strikes to carry out those attacks... because they don't have stealth or air superiority. ukraine on the other hand, is getting external supplies of aircraft (that are actually more modern by comparison). so... we'll see how the air superiority goes, but honestly i think that will shift towards ukraine. ukrainian intel seems to be far better, so i think their aircraft will be better guarded overall (which you can see with just the airframe losses last year). hopefully with something more modern, they'll faire even better than this.
@ravenrise320
@ravenrise320 4 ай бұрын
@D3nchanter If Ukraine can modernize her military and defense industrial infrastructure and become less dependent on foreign aid? You could have a point. But at present? Russia doesn't need to launch long range missiles in order to hit Ukrainian targets. It can launch air strikes either from Russia or its ally Belarus. The only thing keeping such bombardment on a back foot is the presence of Western supplied, modern, anti-aircraft assets. If those supplies dry up or become harder to get? Russia will increase its air assaults on Ukrainian territory and cities and have virtual uncontested air superiority over Ukraine. Ukraine actually needed more advanced aircraft like the American F-16 at the very start of this war. Modern armor like the Leopard or Abrams, less so. But what Ukraine needed, most of all were skilled tankers and pilots. Ukraine has constantly been on the ropes for military personnel who were trained to operate modern equipment. For many years after the fall of the Soviet Union, the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Ukraine, AND the idiotic signing over and removal of Ukraines nuclear stockpile. Ukraine has made blunder after blunder and suffered horribly from governmental corruption and stupidity. Not to mention a fair amount of Russian meddling in Ukrainien political and economic affairs as well. Even now, Ukraine still battles with governmental and military corruption. Which is NOT something a country ever wants to have to struggle with during an invasion or even a foreign war. So much remains to be seen about this war. IF the West begins to tire of supplying a war that's not being won by Ukraine? Which there are already rumbles of going on in the halls of the U.S. government? Then Ukraine is in major trouble.

I've been a follower of the events leading up to and throughout the start of the Campaign. This channel by way of monitoring the effects and affects of its attrition showing just how costly war is. Its metrics measured in more ways than the price of ammunition and armaments and the systems that have been a vital toolkit for adapting to the ever changing environment and how the evolution of warfare has always been acknowledged in this conflict. Although I personally believe a peaceful resolution can allow recovery from the war, the financial crisis makes it impossible to calculate how the region will rebuild after the war. There's so many different aspects that go into the logistics and planning even forwarding the defensive line has a cost that is calculated prior to executing the orders necessary. The price of War will compare to the price of Peace. Reconstruction efforts after the war undoubtedly will take generations of survivors and veterans both in order to heal the region of it's hostility amidst the scars left on the terrain, the people and the infrastructure needed to civilize the wartorn battlefields once the killing stops.

If Germany and France could recover from the far more brutal World Wars 1 and 2, then I don't think war recovery will be a real concern long-term. Many countries have already pledged to help rebuild the large Ukrainian cities after the war is over and there's 350 billion dollars of Russian frozen assets that is in limbo and can be worked out to be used to rebuild Ukraine. The biggest issues will be the massive minefields and unexploded ordnance that western Europe and Balkan countries like Bosnia are dealing with to this day.
@nylonkid01
@nylonkid01 4 ай бұрын
As the technological advances allowed for thermal optics on drones to highlight the land mines to the advantage of close air support and pinpoint accuracy of the artillery that can still be used to dispose the defensive ordinance rendering them obsolete. Engineering equipment will have immense value in the rebuilding process. Tractors and Agricultural machinery are going to be in high demand and no different than the Soviets after WW2 in order to rebuild a lot after the scorched earth policies traded farming equipment and machinery to their Allies, helping those recovery efforts take place. It's important at least for both sides to not go extinct fighting this war, no one would be left behind to rebuild on either side..

Im not an expert in metallurgy, but I had some sort of dental braces as kid. When you want something to be flexible but strong as well. To put it in the classic sense: it should bend, but dont break. In my case, I foolishly tended to toy with the braces, causing metal fatigue and breaking it. As for the United States, they prefer Russia to bow, but not to break. A collapse of the Moscovite Empire might affect the eurasian region in drastic ways. Preventing escalation is not only to protect western nations - its also how to preserve stability in Russia. In the case of Germany its about a feeling of moral obligation, due to the horrific history of World War 2, in wich the nazi's inflicted (at least) 20 million dead Russians. For decades, Berlin had a natural tolerant and lenient posture towards Moscow and its interests. Other nations like France and the Netherlands had other motivations but eventually similar approaches in their policy towards the Russian, with the failed hope to smoothen tensions with diplomatic and economic ties. But this is well-known and hardly something new to mention. But how about military pressure? Lets get back to the comparison: please bend, but not break! But the possiblity of such depends on the materials: is it flexible enough to bow? So, how realistic is it for Putin and its clique to be convinced into rational and peace-loving actions, rather then nostaligic warfare and imperialism? Will Russia bend, without the need to break it? If you want peace, prepare for war. Putin and most dictatorial regimes have a more predator-like philosphy. Its not about choice or opportunism - its a core habit of their very nature of seeing things. When predators smell blood and weakness, they get a very narrow field of thinking and acting. They will push again and again. In my definition, there is a difference between a stalemate and a frozen conflict. The first can be factual on the battlefield, for shorter or longer time. The second is more about strive and motivations: its more a choice. In WW1, we saw years of stalemates. But mostly, both sides send all-in, a total war effort for nothing less but victory. Anyway, there is certainly a part of the western public and political spectre that considers some kind of frozen conflict the best possible. In a cynical way: give Ukraine enough support to survive and fend off Russia, but not enough to win and liberate their sovereign lands. Hoping for a cool-down of the war in due time, making Putin to reconsider his ambitions. Both sides are not willing to settle for real. I will focus on Russia. They sustained tremendous losses and the current strategic perspective will result in very meager gains. Stolen lands will not be recognized and with ‘Lake NATO’ and the new long border with this alliance is far from positive. This can undermine Putins political control over internal affairs. Regarding the predator-trait: Putin will continue to push and hit. He sees a lot of space for extra advantages. Besides, Russia is putting their economy on a war footing. While reluctant to mobilize more cannon fodder, most elements of the military-industrial complex have been revived and improvided: for a long-term war of attrition. Recently, I mentioned the dark scenario of Ukraine developing nuclear weapons, as desperate measure versus passive western allies. But experts also fear the possible escalation of the Russian expansion into the baltic states. It might not be realistic for Putin to pull that off and win - but his predator-instinct might take over, when the west shows weakness. Forget rational thinking. When sharks smell fish blood, they get in a feeding frenzy. History is littered with examples of conquerors who didnt know how or when to stop. How about the other consideration: weakening and neutralizing Russia, without destroying it? That might be an impossible dream. Either Russia will overcome the stress and roll into NATO territories with greater numbers, backed with total-war industry. Either, this will give Putin the illusion he can win, tempting him to exhaust whats left of Russia’s future.For a frozen conflict can also bring long-term damage to Russian stability - even when it doesnt result in a war with NATO. It means the Russian economy and society will be stressed for years to come, cannibalized for the glory of this 'special operation'. When all remaining fat has been scraped from the bottom, the nation might implode. Thus, in the end: a lenient western posture and a frozen conflict might backfire, hurting not only Europe and Ukraine, but also whats left of Russia. So, putting up a firm wall of steel and fire and a hard no towards Moscow, might not only save Ukraine and the European continent from destruction, but also might preserve Russian stability. So, the current road taken, might break Russia a lot worse. Instead, lets take the tough stand, the sooner and the faster, the better. While there is no silver bullet or risk-free choice, the lesser of two evils weighs a lot towards a stronger and defiant stand against Moscovite agression.

With the figures for lost equipment at the end, what is counted as a drone? Because those numbers seem way too small. I watched a DW news video where they were in Ukraine talking to FPV drone pilots and they were saying they were going through thousands of drones per month. I’m sure Russia is similar.
@dgranik4839
@dgranik4839 4 ай бұрын
That figure for lost Drones should be clarified. That probably refers to the more sophisticated, larger, more capable Drones, meant to be reused, and typically dedicated to surveillance tasks, or to be used as Weapons platforms. The FPV Drones often go on One Way Missions, where they are sacrificed in service of destroying a higher value target. Towards that end, they should be counted as expendable, Single-Use Munitions, not toted up as "lost" ( any more than we would deem an Artillery Shell or Bullet which has been fired at the Enemy, as some sort of "Combat Loss"!

Quite the opposite. During early WWII, Adolf & Tojo received tremendous positive results, causing both to go 'all in.' Whereas, Putin has seen fiasco after fiasco. He's also seen no economic benefits -- nothing like capturing entire nations 99% intact. Putin's claims WRT the West-as-a-threat are pure BS -- as is revealed by the West's tepid military response -- a trickle of junkyard gear. You should know, as the Press won't admit it, that most of the European military aid has proved to be in such shoddy condition that it all has to be re-manufactured. That's why you keep hearing about deliveries -- half-a-year later -- finally arriving for the battlefield. EG Leopard I tanks -- these largely came from units sold for scrap by Belgium. (!) EG Challenger II tanks -- most were actually SCRAPPED -- not even sent over for their spares value. (!) Kyiv only received a company. (14) EG Gepard AAA tanks -- these were so shot that every last one had to be re-manufactured. They are THAT old. EG Bradleys -- every last one sent is 30+ years old. How many civilian cars are 30+ years old -- especially off-road machines?
