He concept here they're trolls from the orchestra around a cauldron adding ingredients to make their voices better and better. In he end Layne adds a carrot making everyone disappear. Including himself.

Layne is known as a Carrot Lord and is a notorious prankster. He started in with the carrot nonsense back when JNone was still with the group because it was the only thing that could get to him. If you look at a lot of their videos, you’ll see carrots involved. 😂 PS…did you notice the Lock, Shock and Barrel masks? Nice little homage to videos past.

Layne always had the carrot ever since they started out. Look at the end of the Halo video when Scott Porter did a tribute to a fallen comrade. They show photos of each one of them separately & Layne has a carrot in his hand then.

"How did I just get run over by a truck...and enjoy it as much as I did?" - Me after watching a Voice Play video. The name says it all, though. They tend to play with their voices, see just how far they can push them, and usually in directions no one would have ever expected, too. Fun reaction, as always, guys. Can't wait for the next one!

VoicePlay has been (accurately, I think) described as the "theater kids of the acapella world." They are awesome, and at this point, they are my single favorite acapella group. A big part of that is because they just radiate the vibe that they are having a good time with what they are doing. Like, you can just tell that they are grinning from ear to ear the whole time they're going, and I am all there for that kind of energy!

If you listen to the original by Grieg, you’ll hear a section where the orchestra modulates to a major key and then goes back to minor. Using the drunk!Layne section to do that is so creative.

It's a mode shift within the same key. I believe (I will have to double check), but it's shifting from straight Major (Ionian) to Mixolydian. This gives it a bit of tension, since it's starting on the 5th of the Major scale, while Mixolydian also contains a minor 7th interval -- if that interval is played (or sang) with the Major triad (root, 3rd, 5th) within that mode, it becomes a 7th dominant chord.

@@johndeeregreen4592 It basically shifts to the dominant (F sharp major, albeit with a slight modification) for a short period before reverting back to the B minor it started in.

The Hall of the Mountain King is an orchestral piece (made for full orchestra) and it doesn't have words. It is by composer Edvard Grieg and is from the Peer Gynt Suite. This is a musical based on the play by Ibsen. So you've been rocking out to "classical music". I hope Voice Play will continue to do classical music. They killed this.

Firstly, I love the reactions you guys do! Just... The actual meaningful way you talk about, break down and appreciate the music is wonderful. Keep pausing whenever you want to and keep discussing. It's what sets you guys apart. Next, I enjoy your voiceplay reactions. I really really do. I hope you'd keep reviewing more of their music. Lastly, I think you guys would enjoy reacting to Voiceplay's covers of "Queen in 5 minutes," "If I Was a Rich Man/Girl," and "Bang!"

Such a fun rendition, taking a very repetitive piece of music, Layne did a fantastic job making each section different and interesting. VoicePlay sources costumes and dresses sets themselves and often do their own makeup except when it's this elaborate, then it's done by long time friend and Disney makeup artist, Rick Underwood. Loved the reaction guys, thanks! 🙂👍

One of my favorites, speaking of holiday themes, was their version of the Grinch. Some of their best makeup to that point. BTW, 307 reacts, you may have to watch some of these videos into the credits to catch everything.

Geoff and Layne both are good for shifting a song into the Mixolydian or Dorian mode within the Major key they started in. For example, if a song starts in G Major, to shift to Mixolydian would be all the same notes but starting and resolving on D instead of G. And, because Mixolydian has a minor 7th, it gives it a feeling of tension against the root Major... almost like it's trying to be Major and minor at the same time.

Yes Layne did majorise for that section. If you've heard their cover of Bang! You can hear Geoff majorise a short section in that. :) Cesar de la Rosa is the newest member, since J.None left, and he is from Puerto Rico, so not black as such. He sometimes sings in Spanish too, as in their We're Good. VoicePlay are in a league of their own.

This an orchestra piece written and performed in 1878 called Peer Gynt. It has no words. All music. It has been played in many older cartoons and such on tv in Chase scenes.

It is predominantly in a minor key but does go to the relative major (even in the original) momentarily

8:06 "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" was written in B _minor_ with a transposition to F sharp major for a brief section before returning to the original B minor. It's definitely not a case of "...definitely in a major key" as stated.

The suicidal is from Peer Gint, and this is where Peer Gint is underground in the kingdom of the trolls. If you are not familiar with the orchestral work, you miss half the fun. The piece is written in B minor, with a short section in the major key, then back to the minor.
