The song for me that started me on the 311 ride. Heard this in the radio waaaay back in the day. Went to the CD store(remember those) right after work and picked it up. My wife was like, what is this? Lol. Now she loves em as much as I do. 50 years old now and still digging them, we have been to about 15 shows, including 311 day 2010. We got to meet them in Atlantic City a while back, they were very cool and fun. I told them how this song was why I started listening to them and they opened the show with it for me lol

No shit -- I am in this video. Summer of '94. Just graduated high school. I had eaten many a brownie and smoken all of the pots, but I remember this vividly. This is the outdoor venue at ye 'ol Masquerade (back when it was on North Ave). Other tunes that stick in my memory from this show include Visit and Summer of Love. Offbeat was dope too. Nick explained that they were 'bout to film a video. Don't remember if he said it was for Homebrew or not. He encouraged us to rock. We obliged. You can see me @0:10. I'm the dude with red eyes to the (on screen) right. There I am again @0:31.

Kids now days will never know the excitement of anti- skip portable CD players shit was a major game changer!!! I was 14 years old, getting stoned for the first times, just got my first drum set. I remember being 16 and downloading the tabs for this song from my schools library and racing home to learn how to play it. I think easily 311's best song. Love Pnut's bass, Nick's vocals, S.A's rap, Tim's thick guitar and of course Chad's flawless drumming. Supremely underrated band!

@@johnnyutah386 if you could isolate yourself, have a couple drinks, maybe a smoke, relax and listen to Transistor maybe you will see the brilliance in it. I agree with you, but after transistor. Soundsystem has a great second half, but I don't listen to much after that. Transistor is also very sentimental to me.

STRANGE STORY.... I lived in California in the late 90's and early 2000's. I loved listening to 311, but didn't know the name of the band. In 2004, I moved back to Dallas, and never heard 311 on the radio again. About two months ago, I listened on line to 91X in San Diego, and they played the song "Amber". I remembered liking the song, and wondered if the band had any more good songs. SURPRISE...THEY HAD 10 SONG I LOVED. Since then, I can't stop listening to them...DO THEY HAVE ROCK & ROLL REHAB....?

In the mid-'90s, grunge was already starting to fade and "hybrid" rock music was starting to catch on. 311 and Sublime were the big ones, fusing rock with rap, reggae, punk, funk, and just about anything else. We all know what sadly became of Sublime, and we all know what became of every other band that jumped on that wagon. I have trouble naming a single band. 311, however, is truly a survival story. They outlasted the trend, and even if they're not as big as they were in 1996, they're still going, still selling albums, still selling out concerts. The same 5 dudes. The same positive outlook and adventurous musical philosophy. They outlasted the trend because they were never really a part of it. They were 311, their own thing, no more, no less. And that's what they still are. God, I love this band and everything they stand for. They deserve much more recognition for what they've been able to do in an industry that has completely changed in front of their eyes. Long live 311. May they reach the ears of billions.

This french Canadian music channel MusiquePlus had this show called 1x5 where they would play 5 videos from a band. I was DEEP into blue, waiting on Transistor and thought they were a brand new band, and then I was watching TV and I saw the ad for 1x5 coming up that week featuring 311 and I was like WHAT THE FUCK. I thought they had two songs out and that was it. Programmed the VCR and taped the show : 1. Homebrew 2. Don't Stay Home 3. Down 4. All mixed up 5. Transistor I was probably expecting to see the show open with Down and then a bunch of Blue album videos I missed and something off the upcoming album I suppose? But then this fucking riff comes on and this shirtless dude is putting on a record and the band is fucking murdering this crowd and Chad is all over the kit and and Uncle Sam is doing acid and this crazy dude climbs up on stage and falls on his ass and HOLY SHIT THIS RIFFFF. I heard Homebrew and Transistor for the first time in my life on that fucking show and probably passed out honestly. I wore through that tape and I'm sure I still remember their god damn middle names from that show. Let's see if I smoked too much pot between then and now Nick Charlton Hexum Aaron Charles Wills Tim Jerome Mahoney Doug Vincent Martinez Chad Ronald Sexton. Seems about right. Homebrew means a fuckton to me. I needed this album immediately. Show up at the record store few months later and they had it, along with Music, which again I had never even HEARD about. I spent my whole high school jacked up on 311.

Same bro. 311 and Pharcyde, drove from college in Nashville up to Indy to see them. Strange city, different vibe than normal, venue seemed bizarre. Perhaps something got into my lungs. 🤣 No matter. Once the music dropped it was EPIC. Almost 25 years ago. Unreal... God I miss those times, doing dumb shit like driving 6 hours each way to see a concert...because you could. Cheers man, thanks for the recall. I barely remember Jack Schitt about the show, but I KNOW it was bad ass. They always were...

I saw a show from that same tour at Roseland Ballroom in NYC. I remember that 311 was between the other two, and when the crew was setting up the stage for 311 I heard a girl by me say disappointedly “awwww...there’s gonna be a band?” Having been to many 311 shows already, I was there specifically to see them and knew what to expect. I looked at the girl and basically said “You don’t understand. If you’ve never seen 311, that’s cool; but talk me after their set.” Naturally, 311 rocked the joint and was by far the highlight of the night. Cypress was okay, but they shouldn’t have been the headliners because after all of the energy 311 puts out, it’s impossible for anyone following them to sustain it.
