Nick is a great music writer, no doubt. His writing is what drives the band forward. But lyrically, I think SA runs circles around him. There ain’t nobody out there who writes the way SA does. His lyrics are so damn unique and beautiful. All of these guys unique talents are what makes 311 so great.

This is by far one of the best interview videos i have ever seen. The honesty of TIm and Nick coupled with the comfort and smothness of the host is intoxicating. Nothing fake, nothing blown up, tons of respect for all of the creative processes for the past 3 decades. I remember buying music, grassroots and the blue album all in one week in the 90s, what a adolecent blow torch that was!!! Thank you!!!!

The solo in "Lose" is the first thing I ever learned to play on guitar and if it weren't for that song, I probably wouldn't have played guitar for the last 15 years. Thank you Guitar Center for putting this together and thank you 311 for making my life so much better. On a side note, if you like SA's lyrics about aliens, look up Lloyd Pye and Graham Hancock and prepare to have your mind blown.

Wrote that last comment right after the 20 minute mark... Needed to add something. Its awesome that Nick said Evolver was underappreciated, more namely Creatures. That song almost completely defined my life for several years. Its crazy how you remember your life by the songs you were into those days. 311 has been my favorite band for around 20 years. Maybe 18. Even if they were to stop making music today, my favorite band wouldn't change. Like to see a little more of Zach though. Ill be one of the first grandpas in assisted living with my Soundsystem bumping 311. Hahahaha!! Good shit man. -Richard 35 years Thanks for everything Chad, Tim, Nick, SA & P-Nut; OR... Man.... I fucking love 311. And have been down since right before blue came out. They have consistently maintained my attention all while maintaining a never getting burnt out phase. I've seen them in 5 states 8 cities and been to 311 day . And my left sleeve tattoo is a 311 dedication. I've been to 100s of concerts and seen essentially every band I ever to check out, liked, loved or was nuts about. But I've never caught up with the ol'Nebraska boys. I've met so many great artist in my heavy concert days of the past and never felt "star struck"... But I would fucking love to just shake the hands of each cat 1 time and thank them for the absolute joy they bring to my life. So in the off chance any of you 5 see this. Thank you. From Corey in Illinois. P.s ...its my birthday and I think the entire neighborhood wants to jam some "Visit" with me... At 9 am (They're growing to love it)

Absolutely is. I’ll confess, I was one of those 311 fans who kinda started moving on from 311 around the time of Evolver and DTOM. If you recall, this was the time that the music scene was kinda moving in from the 311/rage/incubus sound and into emo (unfortunately). Because of that, i think a lot of fans shit on Evolver as the “coming down” of 311. Of course, yeas later and thousands of relistens later, Evolver is a tremendous album. And DTOM is a damn good one too.

If they started in the mid 80’s dub and dancehall was still a pretty new “underground” genre. So white kids from the Midwest doing it is quite impressive. And I agree with Nick that the Clash is a huge influence. Started with punk and progressed and really brought Jamaican styles to American kids where as no other band could have done that. So props with two legends giving credit where due to another legend of a band!!!

Discovered the 311 crew live, opening for Oingo Boingo in Seattle back in '94. I was there for Boingo, but the Nebraska boys' energy and power onstage was unmistakable. Went out the next day and picked up CD copies of Music and Grassroots, and have been preaching the gospel ever since. Permanently relocated to Europe around the same time "311 Day" was born in N'Awlins, so I've been vicariously enjoying the fun from afar these last twenty years or so. Hard to believe they're already 30 years in at the time I'm posting this homage here, having just watched the "30 Years of 311" documentary with the wife last night here on YT. Never would have guessed -- way back in '94 -- that they'd be chasing U2 for longest extant band comprised of original members. Keep up the good work, boys...

I've actually spent a lot of time with 311 interviews, they're way back in my world these days. I feel like this is one of the better interviews I've seen, maybe because the questions are different. In a lot of the spots, it seems like Nick gets a lot of the attention. In this, it seemed like he let off the reigns a bit. Perhaps it was because they had guitars in their hand, or maybe it was the interviewer, but this seemed like a really natural conversation. Appreciated this GC!!!!!!

Most interviews I see with musicians that actually talk about the craftsmanship of the music and the artistry that surrounds it tend to bring musicians out of their shell because that’s the reason they started playing in the first place...to live and breathe music, not talk about “what are your thoughts on the Europe tour so far?” Interviews like these are great conversations, instead of the usual inane questions bands get like “which one of you guys sleeps in the latest?”
