GP, From years with a long hilly driveway, using the stump bucket to make low-profile slant ditches at near-90 degree angles to the road to divert run-off down-slope to protect the crown and surface edges... and add some larger egg sized gravel in the ditches if there’s any erosion after... Or use your endless supply of natural rocks (rip-rap sized ones) as serious ditch erosion control. Cheers! ;)

Love Kubota tractors. I've owned several brands of tractors over the years and keep coming back to Kubota. They have the smoothest hydraulics in the business and arguably the most reliable diesel engines. There is a reason that the majority of reefer units on the road use Kubota engines.

Glad the advice helped. I never use my box blade without my little level and with the magnets it stays easily with the tractor. Worth every few $ bucks it costed. 👍☺

I'm glad you are liking the new tractor. The extra weight makes a difference with the implement work. Looks like the tractor had zero issues with pulling the blade or the box blade.

Gravel & dirt roads need about a 4% crown for adequate drainage to achieve the longest intervals between maintenance. There'd be about three inches difference from the center to the edge of a 12ft wide road & about a five inch difference for a 20ft wide road. With the rolling acton of the rear blade the rocks are more likely to sit on top of the dirt, a simple experiment showing the process is to put rocks in a cup & covering them with sand where when shaken the larger pieces will rise. The box blade finish changed the rear blade's finished product.

Good job Gord. If you keep the road crowned like it is those ditches should be adequate. Your take-off ditches should be far enough up from the culvert that sediment can filter out through the forest floor before hitting the stream.

Good morning GP. My property is also at the end of a private road, so owners as a group must maintain it. Allowing that Canadian and U.S. zoning and right of way laws might be very different, I do have a couple of observations. So in my county, when a group of landowners file for a private road, a 50 foot wide right of way is mapped through those properties. Parts of our private road look like yours though - maybe 20 feet in spots. Many private homeowner associations will tend to open up just enough of that right of way to get a semi through while their houses or cabins are being built. As the trees on the edges of whatever portion was cleared grow, the roads tend to get narrower over time. Right now, I need to go back and clear more were I to want a large truck through (not to mention a 200 foot wide cul-de-sac at the end for it to turn around). It looks like your association may need to pool resources and clear your right of way to the specified width (which is hopefully more than you are working with there). We need to do that on ours, but when you go looking for money to do this sort of stuff, everybody seems to be broke. Is it wrong to assume you might have utilities buried along the road? They should be below your frost line, bu can still make their way up. I would guess you guys have a "call before you dig" number up there. The other thing I notice is a lack of geotextile fabric under your base rock. It also looks like they layers of your road didn't use multiple grades of rock either. Same thing here with us. We scrape it, box-blade it, and add more stone. Maybe you don't need multiple layers of stone up there on the shield though. It would probably be a $100,000 plus per mile road to get it done professionally, so I guess we both will prefer to get some tractor time!

Greetings from Wisconsin! Another great video. I just did a mile long job on my buddy's driveway with my L2501. Used both rear blade and box blade. I have my trust torpedo level, and I made a cheat sheet in a mini notebook that I made. Hooked up to my attachments in my level garage, I found level and counted the exposed threads on my top and tilt to the locking nut. Then I had a reference point. Especially on my box blade, because I really need to know what blade is digging, and which is grading. There's a very knowledgeable guy on KZfaq called "daveknowshow" he really has some great pointers on setup and use. I love learning how to be more efficient with my tractor and implements especially with long driveways where it could be a full day's job anyways. Cheers my friend

You had a gravel road; now you have a dirt/mud road. Slant the blade the other way and grade the DIRT into the forest til you have the ditch line you want. Now, turn the blade the other way and carefully pull the gravel, not the dirt, back onto the road.

Hey Gord, Lovin' the new rig. Can't beat a factory cab with heat/ac. Wish I had one with the temps around here the last week. 105-112 with major humidity due to that monsoon stuff coming up from down south. Had a major lightning outbreak the other day starting around 0300 PDT. Had a strike on a utility pole 4 houses down from me and the detonation was so loud it shook the house. Glad it didn't hit my 80' Amateur Radio tower. Felt like a couple hundred pounds of ANFO detonating. Man that was loud. Then we lost power immediately after. Lucky I have a 10kw diesel genset. PG&E had to replace the transformer. Fires on Mt. Diablo east of me, fires all over Marin/Napa due to lightning. You did a nice job on the driveway. Looks like a crown to me. One of the things I want to do on my L2501 is install a couple rear remotes so I can add top/tilt to my box blade. Not cheap tho.. Looks like you are enjoying the new machine. BTW, you ever let Guy, Bob, or Bill operate it? Just curious. Guess it could be a liability issue. Have a safe week. Cheers.

A tip: If you angle the inner ,forward cutting edge to the sky (play with those angles ) using your top link of the 3 point hitch you should be able to herd all your larger rocks in a pile lift up and use rear cutting edge to push them into your desired location. Also if you use that same set up as stated above and air gap the front cutting edge and drive forward with the rear cutting dragging the driveway it will make it a smooth finish. I recommend a hydraulic top link cylinder and tilt cylinder set up. Job well done with the blade and as a whole

I find this work to be so satisfying, now if I only had a long dirt road to maintain or even a tractor! 🤣 Great stuff!

Good video as always, stump bucket and rip-rap what a ditch it makes. Top soil makes a mess I would get rid of that. 2 inch down to dust is the ticket. Cheers and great job

GP, have you ever tried using a landscape rake on your driveway to pull the gravel to the surface and leave the dirt below. I have been doing this for years and it works great once you have the shape you want. I only use the blade or box blade for shaping, much like you did.

I've always done grading like you have but there's been one thing I've been wanting to try is setting the angle outward on setting I don't know if it would even work but it's a thought I would love to try if I ever get the chance. A better way to level your three point hitch is the connecting rods on the lower links. Go to the stationary side measure with a tape then go to the other side measure then adjust. This works weather you are on level ground or not.

I have a 100 yard long driveway with a slight hill made with high quality sure pac (crusher run?) I use my rear blade and I can keep it in tip top shape so it doesn't wash out in heavy rains and it is one of the most fun and enjoyable things I do on my tractor.

In one week we are moving from Niagara area to rural NB near Moncton. 3 acres, half wooded, will require a tractor and your videos have guided me to a B2610 from my original choice of BX2380. Your implement reviews have been invaluable as well. Thanks and keep up the good work. BTW..there's a Kubota dealer 7 minutes from the new property in Salisbury. How handy is that..I'll be visiting him after the 14 day quarantine.

Great video. Looks like a good crown now. Hopefully the water runs to the side like you want. I think digging a couple trenches to let water evacuate to the woods before getting to the bottom of the hill is a good idea.

Funny thing, had my driveway graded...graveled....and crowned last year, ended up this weekend cutting grass on THE WHOLE DRIVEWAY! , due to the limestone the weeds grew there, not in the woods, or anywhere else. Go figure? Coming up on 25K !!!!! Good stuff!

I think I mentioned this once before , but here’s a reminder , contact your implement supplier and see if they would be willing to trade your back blade for an offset back blade , you may have to kick in a little bit to do this but I think you would greatly benefit from this and find it much more useful for getting to reaching out to the side of the roadway while your tractor stays in the middle of the driveway .. just something to consider , have a good day 👍🏽 ❤️ 👍

I would like to see witch job lasts longer, I feel the box blade is quicker and moves more material but it is also why it dosent last as long disturbing too much material, I feel the land plane takes longer to work but the results will last longer because it only moved the top 2-3 inches of material.

Gord, There is a fella on YT named Andrew Camerata. Great channel. He has videos where he is creating drainage ditches on the sides of roads to do just what you talked about. However, he doesn't use a tractor. But with bucket and back blade you might be able to do it. You might have to rent an excavator with a hammer attachment to get through some rock.

Hi GP, The regraded driveway looks great. As you mentioned likely more gravel will be required. So, how do you like the cab so far? One thing you might have noticed. Having a cab takes a bit getting used to. I'm sure you have noticed that the cab somewhat desensitizes you to what's happening with implements. But, having one for both hot and cold days makes it so much more enjoyable. Take Care, Tom

Nice video. Only thing that would bother me a little is the dirt mixed in with gravel I wonder if a guy could use the bucket get rid of the dirt first and maybe add some gravel if there is a way of grading the ditch without getting the dirt onto the road

I'll bet you are starting to wish you would have gotten the rear hydraulics for that new tractor. That way you could add the hydraulic angle kit to your blade. Hopping in and out of the cab every time you want to change the blade angle has to be a pain.

That blade does the trick it seems. Looks like it came out really good!

Good morning, Gord! You did fine work on the driveway! Seeing you use the rear blade reminds me that a rear blade is on my short list of next attachments. The are really great for driveway maintenance and trail building. Gonna have to get me one! It seems like the HST transmission sounds pretty loud in the cab. Do you find that to be the case? Kubota’s compact tractor HST transmissions are notoriously loud. My L3901 is too, especially at high RPM. I find if I keep below 2,000 RPM it’s not bad. Great video! Cheers!

The box blade was slanted but was your tractor also setting on level ground. To use that level you have to check the level of the tractor as well.

I’m a novice, this may be dumb question but why not use box blade to put crown in instead of blade. You can adjust with 3 point hitch too. Lots of dirt on drive now are you bringing in more gravel.

I don’t think you need to be an expert at grading I know I am not you know what you won’t it to look like and if it takes ten extra minutes oook job looks good thanks for sharing
