I hear you both on the truck stops and overnight stays. We stayed overnight in our car at a truck stop. Then we at a truck stop restaurant. I ever knew people would steal an Rv. I don’t know if it has ever happened out here in Vegas. Cars yes. Gas being siphoned has happened right near me.

In some cases, they may not be stealing the RV, but make sure your bikes, generators, and other items on the outside of your rig are locked down as that valuable Yeti cooler becomes very attractive and can be grabbed very quickly off the back of the rig or out of the back of the truck. I seem to remember this happening to some RV news providers at an overnight stop.
@RVMilesPodcast
@RVMilesPodcast Ай бұрын
I remember when that happened to us as well, however, it wasn’t at a truck stop on this list or any list, it was at a Cabela’s and they cut through the lock that was securely holding our generator on the back rack of our RV.

It’s good for you guys to bring up stories like the Airstream accident. A lot of people just don’t know that it’s not safe or legal to be in a trailer while it’s moving. I’m guilty of sometimes walking to the back of my motorhome while it’s moving to get something. I’m sure as a doctor she would want her death to mean something and maybe that is a warning to others to not do the same. So sad and tragic.

I'm a truck driver for 40 years and a owner of many RV'S for the same amount of time. Ì always stayed at camp grounds or retail parking lot as last resort .Please do the same, there's a serious shortage of parking for trucks. Eleven trucks that need parking and only one available on average.I have had to pay two parking fines in one year costing over eight hundred dollars. We are out there working seven day's a week and have to deal with electronic logs that can't be altered. Just look at any rest area or truck stop late at night. Thank you.

Carjacking has actually boomed since factory security systems became common. It is easier to pull someone out of the door, or walk up when someone runs into a store and leaves their car idling. (Which is illegal in some places, because an unattended running car is such an easy steal.)

On the doctor in NY: one day I bumped into the closed laundry room door in someone's house, and it just swung open from the touch. Apparently in over 20 years, no one had ever noticed that when the door looked and felt it was latched shut? The latch had never been properly adjusted to LATCH. I was easily able to accept that the doctor's new Airstream might have had a similar simple defective latch. That's why transit busses usually have a white line set into the floor and a sign saying DO NOT STAND IN FRONT OF WHITE LINE.

I looked at that list High Value Load & I was struck by the corporate name on the list, L Brands. It rang a bell for me. I'm like I don't think that's an insurance company, so I looked it up. I was right. It was the holding company for The Limited & all the other companies they owned. * L Brands was a holding company started by Les Wexner in 1963 & owned his clothing retailer, The Limited. * L Brands expanded into a global specialty retail holding company that specialized in women's apparel and beauty products. * L Brand's subsidiaries included brands like Victoria's Secret, PINK, and Bath & Body Works. Former brands include The Limited, Express, La Senza, and Henri Bendel. * L Brands also invested in other popular names like Abercrombie & Fitch and White Barn Candle. * In the summer of 2021, L Brands spun off Victoria's Secret and other holdings, renaming itself Bath & Body Works. Victoria's Secret is now traded as a separate company.

As to an RV not being a home look at fine print of the paperwork of your trailer/motorhome. It says recreational vehicle, not for full time use or something similar. It's not designed to be a full time home -- as opposed to a mobile home that is designed for full time living. So the legal issue is really what constitutes a home that's protected in bankruptcy? Just how far do you draw the line between a home & a vehicle? If you're homeless & living in a car is your car a home?
@RVMilesPodcast

Since the IRS will recognize vehicles as a home if they meet certain criteria, I suspect the bankruptcy laws sometimes consider only "real estate/property" for their purposes. And in some states, even a physical house is not protected in bankruptcy.

Hi. I am pre- rig. Never had and RV of any kind. Yes, I want to rent before buying. I will only be using a rig, to get from point “ A “ to point “ B” because I don’t like motels / hotels ( toxins, EMFs electromagnetic frequency exposure that I cannot control , and so on). I will be traveling solo, but with 4 dogs ( each 30-40 lb range). I want to be able to use the toilet in the rig and only be away from my dogs , when necessary for grocery shopping, My dogs will be crated ( b/c studies show that is safest for travel ) and crates fastened to vehicle or rig interior. They need good strong A/ C as they are double coated. So are my only safe options an actual motor home? How often to I plan to use this? I don’t know , guessing a max of 4 times a year. What are my best rig style/ type choices. Sounds like trailers and 5th wheels are unsafe. Vans, I fear A/c too wimpy. Oh and need a fridge b/c they get fresh raw meals. I am open, just at an investigating stage. Thanks for your thoughts
