Starting a Twitch channel essentially means you're going to be trying to grow from 0 viewers, and that is okay! It is incredibly difficult, but everyone starts somewhere! Today we're going to cover 32 easy tips to help you grow your Twitch channel from 0 viewers!
You can expect To Have 0 To no viewers for your first stream or week, I want you to turn off the viewer count, and Stream Like You Have 100s of viewers for two reasons, first to build up your confidence and practice your skills as an entertainer.
You need to think about EVERY SINGLE STREAM as if it is producing content for other platforms, if you sit there waiting for a single viewer before being entertaining, just playing a game zombie-faced, then you are wasting your time.
You need to stream with the idea of making content for Tik tok, Yt shorts, instagram, full youtube videos, and any of the thousands of other platforms.

How To Grow On Twitch?
If you want to grow your Twitch stream, it is important to be critical. Being critical isn’t a bad thing, people say, “Oh don’t be so critical of yourself!”.
But there are a lot of things you can control and improve, such as your visuals, audio, and most importantly your content that you’re creating. Watch back your VoD and be honest with yourself, is it up to scratch. Does your mic sound good? Are you engaging? Is it easy to watch and enjoy or is there something that is off-putting? Be honest, push yourself to grow, and become a better entertainer!
Because at the end of the day, the only way you are going to grow your stream is by growing yourself and being critical in a positive way.

What Bitrate And Settings Should I Use For Streaming?
The easiest way to understand bitrate is by calling what it actually is, your upload speed to the Twitch servers.
Now you’ll need a higher bitrate depending on how high quality you want your stream to be, this means 1080p 60 frames per second will need a bitrate of 6000, which roughly equals 6megabits upload speed on your end being taken up
By lowering your resolution and framerate, you can make it a lot easier to stream, for example, if you set your base canvas size to 1920x1080, but change your output to 1280x720 otherwise known as 720p you drop down to only needing a bitrate of 4500 or 4.5megabits.
If you still want 1080, you can even just lower your framerate from 60fps to 30fps and then adjust to 4500bitrate.
For more information visit this Bitrate graph: stream.twitch.tv/

As an Autistic person I really struggle with most 'how-to' guides because they're not actually good. They're super vague, saying things like 'learn to market yourself' or 'talk constantly'. Which are fine tips for people who don't need explicit instruction to actually understand what needs to be done. This video was immensely helpful as it had specific things within those categories that I can actually action. I've had some pretty decent growth already, but this will really help me go that step further. Thank you

I really appreciate this breakdown; it's far more damaging to set unrealistic parameters and expectations for something than to face the facts surrounding the desired outcome, in this case, being seen, followed, and recommended to other viewers. I'm currently in that camp of hesitation, but that's a general problem I have with most things, something I'm working on. It's nice to see direct answers to complex questions. Thanks for this.

Surprisingly I found out a few of these just by taking a second and thinking about it after a stream, I appreciate everything you are doing to help all of us. I'm at 27/32 atm and am planning on continuing my improvement. Been streaming for about 2 weeks now and even just getting a few extra viewers makes me feel it's worth it (Don't even get me started on the feeling I get when I get a new follower!) But again I appreciate it!

I think it's all about objectives and goals, If you want to grow, you have to make you known and easily "findable" and such but as for myself ...I daydream about beng famous and rich but realistically, that is not my goal, when I start a stream it's to have fun with a couple of viewer and growing a small community so ... I think you need to know what you want, what hope and what you can do, in order to do what you can, try to achieve what you want, still aiming for what you hope ;) And thanks Eljayem for all the advices I won't follow :p , I really enjoy your work

Love the honesty and tough love. I was nervous at first. When you started to talk about a list of 32 things, and started getting a bit (politely) tough, I knew there would be some tough pills to swallow. But I did watch to the end, and I did take on board what you had to say. I'm glad to say that while I'm only doing about 15 of these right now, I can see the areas I need to improve. I can see how to improve. And after seriously contemplating the tough pills, I do not believe they are game/enders for me. This has boosted my overall confidence while highlighting things I need to work on. Thank you.

I think the biggest problem is, that many beginners don't watch their own stuff. Sometimes out of laziness, sometimes because they are aware of the fact, that they just sat there, stonefaced, doing nothing other than playing the game, while not saying a word. All you need to do, is search those streamers with 0-2 viewers. It's just sad, because some of them genuinely seem like pleasent, friendly guys... So to all of you out there. I think, one of the most important tips in this video is to ENTERTAIN. Don't look at the numbers. Just be you. Be silly. Make jokes. Sooner rather than later, someone will be in your stream, in your chat and be laughing with you. Oh and quick note: This channel helped me alot to take a step back and look on what I can improve on. So. Thank you for being out there, providing us little ones, with some really life altering tips!

Instead I want to focus fully on content creation right now. This is some solid advice here! I made affiliate about 4 years ago, and then dropped out of streaming due to some life stuff going on. I recently got back in bc I wanted to run some charity streams for a local animal shelter and go figure, I remembered how much I enjoy streaming. I'm bopping around KZfaq now getting a sense of how things have changed in the time I've been away, and this was super useful as both that and as a refresher course. Thanks for the video! :)

Thanks for all the tips. The past month I have really been struggling with what my next step should be. #32 was exactly what I needed. This week my goal was to work on a lot of things I know need changing, but I was afraid that I need to keep going live and not take that time off to readdress some things. It gets hard to fix things when you constantly need it stable to go live. It also made me realize something else. Another struggle I believe I've had is understanding what roles I fulfill. Hearing all those roles has helped me embrace some new things going forward. I sometimes wondered if I was doing too much. You've made me realize, I still have to step up in some areas and do more, lol. I can't wait, I'm enjoying this challenge of having to get better.

I'm a brand new streamer (i have about four streams and about 25 followers under my belt) and i wanted to say that i am so glad i found your channel before I started. It really made me take a step back and ask myself if i really wanted to grow on twitch, and im happy to say that i do want to grow. I just wanted to say thank you for all your wisdom and advice you give out, it really gave me the confidence to finally push that go live button :]

I just wanted to say thank you for making this. And thank you for not sugar coating it all. That ending bit about stopping if things just aren't going right and taking the time to see what's going wrong was very reassuring. I'm aspiring to be a streamer and content creator myself and I've been dreaming of it for 8 years. But I've finally managed the courage to stop dreaming and try to pursue this dream and try my best with the understanding that failure is very much the likely option. But learning now that there are plenty of ways to increase those odds just a bit more and plenty of ways to use my analytic brain to see what can be improved and try again if things go wrong. This video gave just little egg of hope to push myself out of the crippling fear of making the final steps of pushing myself over that limit and finishing my step to be ready to stream. So Once Again. Just Thank you.

4:00 very important! Once I started playing a less competitive game (Skyrim). It changed everything. I went from feeling boring and hopeless to having a lot of fun. Here's what I did for my first successful stream with legit 10 followers and no viewers to sum up the first 4 minutes of the video. I went from playing csgo to skyrim. The idea for the stream I had was play the game but put in mods and change the mods I was using throughout the stream. The title had 2 engaging keywords; Mods and 12 hour stream. I think the title was something like: 12 Hour Stream! Ruining Skyrim By Adding Random Mods. And lastly I kept talking, even if it wasn't to a viewer and there were ZERO periods of silence. You stop talking for legit more then 2 seconds you'll start dropping off I know we're told no one likes a chatterbox but with streaming it's a must! Once I combined all those things I had a solid 12 hour stream were I averaged 12 viewers and peaked at 21 and got 20 followers that stream. I wanna get back into it even for just 1 or 2 days a week for 4 hours, time is my biggest enemy right now.

I'm on my 2nd year of streaming consistently and only got 18/32. It took me a long time to learn a lot of this on my own, but I wasn't really thinking about growing or building anything early on. I just kept going live every day because it was fun. After 516 days in a row I was just really frustrated because I felt like I was putting in a lot of effort and not really seeing any results. I decided to end that daily stream streak and start trying to figure out how to actually grow. It's been a couple of weeks and it's a huge learning curve. I'm still frustrated, but optimistic.

It’s very tedious but if it’s something you enjoy, keep at it. It’s hard to be discovered first when starting anything, you just need to publish on other platforms and engage in the community like you said, because people don’t want to watch a nobody, who doesn’t talk or engage. I forget to talk sometimes on stream, or don’t want people to hear me cough or sneeze but you have to not care in the end because it’s your channel, your content and your time you are putting into learning everything to build a brand.
