Did YouTube Just SOLVE Small Streamer Growth?!

Twitch Discovery is solved.... by moving to KZfaq! KZfaq just announced amazing updates and changes that make it so every Small Streamer has the chance to reach hundreds or even thousands of potential new viewers, that's right, KZfaq's new updates have completely destroyed Twitch.
The update has made major improvements that I love, while not really increasing the workload that Creators currently have to do, this video is breaking down exactly what the update is, the pros, cons, and what you should consider doing to make the most of it and grow your stream in 2023.

Why Is Twitch Discovery Not Good for Small Streamers
Twitch sorts their categories by most viewers, which means it is what we call a Kingmaker system, essentially when one Streamer gets lots of viewers, they rise to the top of the category or get more recommendations causing them to get more viewers who come browsing Twitch.
So beginners or small streamers often sit right down at the bottom of the categories and never get any clicks, because nobody scrolls down 20,000 streamers to find them, and nobody uses the filters over here to check by recommended or smallest despite what you might hope.
In reality, very few even check categories, most Viewers actually go straight to their Follower List or Favourite streamer meaning discovery on Twitch is relatively slow to start out.
Think about it, when you type twitch.tv into your bar, it usually auto-completes to your favourite streamers channel, not to a specific category or the homepage.
This kingmaker system has led to A LOT of outcry from smaller creators asking Twitch to do more for them and their discovery and in turn the same reason why educators such as myself or harris often push you guys to diversify across other platforms with algorithms such as TikTok or KZfaq… even if you hate that advice with all your heart.

What Is The New KZfaq Update?
Channel page updates are rolling out right now slowly and should be rolled out for everyone by the end of the year, this means now Videos, Shorts, and Live Streams will have their own tabs on the channel, if you’ve uploaded each of them…
no more unlisting Live streams, and of course that means, no more losing watch hours, but more importantly, uploading shorts without making your channel page look terrible and harder to locate your main videos.
Quickly as well, they are experimenting with a new recommendation tool on channel pages so the subs who visit get videos or content on your channel recommended to them based on what they enjoy most, so if someone subscribed to you for shorts, they’ll see shorts rather than videos when they come to your channel.

Being discovered while live totally depends on how you're titling your videos. We're constantly being found by new viewers while live. If you title them strategically just like you do recorded videos when someone searches for that or something similar you're there. Great video man. 🤘😎

Interesting to look at! I think you're right, it depends on the niche. But also on another level, I think it heavily depends on how high quality your content is, and how well the streams VoD was packaged. I've noticed some gaming channels that do more cozy style content, leaving there VoDs up and published has helped them because Viewers enjoy putting them on to lurk, sleep, have in the background, etc.

KZfaq's algorithm is absolutely superior for ANY content creator starting streaming. Smaller, newer streamers get picked up so good by the algorythm if they stream daily with regular uploads. I've been following severall smaller Streamers jump from 50 to 500 viewers in the matter of 2 weeks. I'm very happy to see that. Consistency is and stays key tho.

I've genuinely considered starting streaming lately, been watching hours of guides of both the technical stuff and behaviour, yours especially, and I've been working on a setup the past weeks etc, but I'm not sure whether to start streaming on YT or Twitch anymore, especially with the recent Twitch changes I've heard about. I've been setting up my Twitch too, but this video has really made me consider YT.

Cleaning up that homepage UI will be gaming changing when it comes to shorts content! Live streaming on KZfaq is advantageous right now since there are more views than streamers, but Twitch's latest moves will definitely bring a lot more streamers to this platform. I hope KZfaq continues to make these changes. I believe they could easily overtake Twitch if they solve their own streaming problems.

I personally prefer KZfaq just because of custom thumbnails in streams. Granted, you're less likely to be noticed because of the amount of streams/channels that don't do gaming content. Also shorts ROCK (both the ones on my legs atm and the ones on YT), really helps with smaller channels get noticed!

I swapped to KZfaq RIGHT before all the Twitch drama about the 50/50 splits, twitch con stuff, gambling stuff, and I'm glad I did! I had already built a community over on KZfaq through normal videos that was three times the size of my Twitch following, so I get 20-60 viewers almost every stream! On twitch, I averaged at 10-20 viewers, and had never gotten above 30 viewers without a raid. Definitely happy the transition was smooth for me!

This video was very well made and you explained what the smaller channel like ourselves were actually struggling with! We started our channel in March and focused primarily on short form content. We definitely grew however we did notice when we did longer videos the short viewers were left unaware that we even did it. We took a short break and came back with a new plan to push shorts every day using clips from longer videos and telling the viewers the long videos are on the channel however again this didn't really do much due to the difficulty for a shorts viewer to go from the shorts feed to your channel. Ever since the update has been announced we have noticed our videos getting way more views than they did before (from 5 views to 30 views which is big for us). Focused a lot more energy in thumbnails and titling also helped but with this update being announced this is HUGE! Would encourage those on the fence to take advantage of the shorts whilst these updates are being implemented!

To be fair, when it comes to properly sorting/separating streams, shorts, and videos, KZfaq is working on a better UI. As far as I know it's already rolling out on mobile, and it is clean af. I don't think it will be necessary to unlisted streams anymore in the near future. Edit: well shoot, maybe I should've waited a little longer before pausing to comment. Anyhow, YT is certainly making great changes. Edit #2: There are lives channels in the recommended section of this video, they are being pushed.

I've been on KZfaq for almost 3 months now, doing weekly videos. I started streaming here about a month later. I don't have a lot of subs, but I already hit over 1k watch hours, because I've been fortunate enough to find some great people that enjoy my content and regularly hang out in my stream. I haven't done any shorts yet, because I hate how cluttered the channel page looks right now, so these changes are amazing! Can't wait to finally go all-in and use all these tools. Also, discovery isn't all that bad since KZfaq does have some very big advantages for streams: Thumbnails and recommending VoDs. Thumbnails are super powerful in getting people to click on your stream, even if there aren't a lot of viewers - I've had multiple people come in and tell me they just saw my Thumbnail on their home feed and thought it was cool and checked it out - some of them are now in my stream every time I'm live! KZfaq is also pushing VoDs like they're normal videos, so if you keep them listed, they are an amazing way to grow - Of course, they usually get a much lower CTR, since most people don't bother clicking on a 4 hour video, but when you're small, every view counts, so having this tool, as opposed to Twitch VoDs that NO ONE watches when you're small, is super helpful! Looking forward to seeing you on KZfaq, Eljay! 💚

I have a LONG way to go and I'm stuck at like 2.3 average viewers out of the 3 to become affiliate (I have everything else) lol I just want to make emotes and stickers. However, YT seems to be heading in a great direction and I do love YT. Once I learn to edit videos properly and not just upload streams but have a purpose, I may make the switch or do both. I've had shorts and lives with some produced vids on my channel (didn't believe in separating it all) and it actually works really well. I've been doing the strat of releasing a short about an hour before going live for months now and it works really well! Also I leave the livestream up after its over as a VOD and it get views. I will say that I think its a niche thing cause I have a gaming channel and the same strat isn't nearly as effective as it is with my commentary/react channel. Gaming content on YT is for sure harder to crack through I'll say. Great video with many great points.

So I put different streaming series in their own playlists, when I’m setting up the stream, before I even go live. Want to move to youtube the next days finally. Now I am ready for this. Had enough of this "sad feeling most of the time to not become enough viewers and the recognition I tried to get in the last 2 years. It was okay, I have some firms and cooperations around me, but the motivation disrupts if you are doesnt "go live" everyday and "function". Its so hard to get attention on twitch and mostly "big" streamers getting the full audience you will never has had without "connection", as many as you tries. In my case I tried so many thinks out for me and the people, but the audience doesnt see it often. thats demotivating. I only want to live and spread out what I love and to show it to the people to distract them in this hard times to get the best feelings on a hard day.. Now I am ready for a chance and a new begin. Thanks for your great tips and motivation! Best

(On my content channel) I've had over 9k watch hours for what seems like forever. My channel is over 2 yrs old now and I'm just now hitting 900 subs, it's all 10-30 minute edited videos. Watch hours has never been a problem for me, so it's interesting seeing your take that the subs isn't the issue

I was originally using an unlisted stream playlist 4:23 and now I've just started not un-listing my streams after watching this video. Thanks for the info. I've been waiting SO LONGGGG for the sperate category feature for live streams. But now the question is do I "re-list" all of my old unlisted live streams and bombard my sub's notif bell to get my watch hours back?

I have streamed for countless hours on Twitch, with overlays, sound effects, great gameplay, great quality, amazing audio, music, everything…. I have 30 followers… barely 1 viewer if not a bot. I left Twitch. I’m now on YT. It’s amazing, I love it and I have already got 300+ people who subscribed within the last 2 weeks who actually enjoy my gameplay and have commented on my videos. KZfaq is just much better in terms of outreach. I don’t live stream yet, but growing my subscriber list, then once I have a decent amount, I’m sure when I live-stream, I’ll have 100x viewers than I did than Twitch.

Watching this taught me a lot about KZfaq shorts, and making money on KZfaq. Although shorts are a side thing I've tried, now that I know how powerful it can me to drive viewers to videos or streams, I'm sure I will start making more shorts to drive more viewers to my channel.

I can 100% say that stream hours count towards watch hours - I just hit monetization because of my streams (and shorts gained subscribers... I recommend doing those two things to grow your channel).

On that question of whether or not streams count toward the 4000 hours required for monetisation: streams of less than 12 hours, that remain 'Public' do count; streams over 12 hours, or those 'Unlisted' or 'Private' (as mentioned in vid) don't count. Of course there could be some mysterious variance that affects your channel, but that's our experience. Oh, and it takes 2 or 3 days post-stream for the streamed hours to contribute to the overall count.
@StreamScheme

It seems some also feel activity means a lot, if a viewer never engages or isn’t active with a like, etc than their watch time doesn’t count… but I can’t see any proof, just more theories in the comments sadly.
@sydneylivecamera
@sydneylivecamera Жыл бұрын
@@StreamScheme Huh, that's interesting. Getting that first 4k watch hours certainly feels like a challenge governed by an opaque and mysterious rule-structure. Eg we were getting 4k hours a month, but only a handful of hours added in the monetisation calculation. It was easy to theorise it was adding as a percentage of live hours, or some other metric, but it was simply that 24/7 streams don't add to the monetisation calculation. That said, it's all so undefined, and hard to confirm, that interaction could indeed be a factor! PS. Thanks for the great video.

Yes please to how the streams work differently. I stream on twitch and just did my first stream on KZfaq but it was a little confusing on how to go about it. And the chat wasn’t working from the stream manager, and the overlay chat wasn’t coming up on stream etc. So a breakdown of that stuff would be nice thank you for the videos.

Hey there! Just discovered your channel with this video - I am actually not a streamer but a "youtuber", having done LPs so far, but was thinking about streaming as well and if it's just to supplement my main content. I saw that you made a video already about Things you should check before doing each twitch stream. While most of that can be applied to youtube as well, it would be great if you could do something similar for youtube. Like youtube streaming for beginners or something. Also I would like your opinion on how useful it is to use streaming as supplement for non-live content, instead of the other way around.

There are a few things that I still want KZfaq to have, that Twitch doesn't. The first thing, is the who's live tab on the left-hand side. Having a side tab in my UI that shows which streamers I follow who are live, as well as recommended streams has been how I decide which streamers to watch, most of the time. It also gives me the power to see who I want to raid. The second thing is actually channel hosting and channel raiding. Now, hilariously, Twitch is actually removing hosting, which does suck, but the ability to send your audience to another streamer, and giving them content while you're gone is a really good feature, and helps streamers support each other. Not to mention that if you could host a live channel while you're offline, that means that people going to your channel for the first time would see you recommending a fellow streamer that they might also like. The third thing that I really like from Twitch is the panels/buttons you can put under your stream, that people can use to find links to other socials you're on, your computer specs, and other things, all without needing to leave your livestream. If all these things were implemented on KZfaq, then I'd definitely make the switch. Currently though, I'm still hesitant.
