I've recently been re-testing some monitors with the latest firmware. Here's what I've found from the Asus PG32UCDM with the latest MCM103 firmware release: ✅Fixed: Brightness on AMD GPUs now reaches 1000 nits without EDID hacks and EOTF tracking is good at a 2%/10% window size ❌Not fixed: Poor EOTF tracking at high window sizes like 25% and 50% which leads to lower than expected brightness in high APL scenes (in the brightest mode) I've run a few real world tests and for reference brightness in high APL content (eg the sky in sunny scenes) can be about 25% higher on the WOLED-based LG 32GS95UE than the QD-OLED PG32UCDM. The LG monitor also has poor tracking at high window sizes like 25%, but not as bad as most QD-OLEDs. This is something all OLED brands need to work on.

Critical for potential customers, but also important to keep in the discourse and to incentivize manufacturers to do better on this issue. Scalpers buy them out to create a shortage and resell at a huge markup. Happens with all new highly desired tech. It's a shame but that's what happens with monitors, graphics cards, gaming consoles etc., etc., if there's a high expected demand for a new launch product the scalpers setup bots to scan for stock online and buy every out.

Hey great review and glad it turned out great! One little section you could add is that due to the availability of great uoscalers like dlss or xess the scalability of 4k Displays is now so much better and it can achieve the same or even better picture quality at 1440p/1080 ot lower than native displays of that resolution. This is while maintaining native 4k with DLAA etc. For less demanding titles! This is a big change from the pre deep learning based upscaler era where I would almost exclusivetrecommend 1440p displays as the sweet spot for variety gaming.

Tim with all these 4k 240hz monitors coming out I would like to see a video about downscaling as most of the GPUs currently out here can't run 4k at 240z. I would like to know the pros and cons of downscaling to 1080p and 1440p on a 4k monitor for gaming. Something I noticed with my M27QX at 1440p is if you have a monitor that runs at 240 you typically chase that top speed with your settings (at least I did). I have a hard time seeing the difference once I am over 175ish.

Just use nearest neighbor, aka integer scaling, or DLSS. Most games will require for you to use DLSS anyways, since AI upscaling is now the only good catch-all anti-aliasing solution.

Oh ya, anything you use for upscaling at a lower resolution that isn't nearest neighbor will look soft and muddy. 1080p, for instance, is still a fairly sizable resolution. So it may not look all that bad. I know that to be the case because that's the resolution I used on my 4k laptop for some time.

currently waiting for a 34inch 240 or 360hz QD OLED with at least some brightness increase ( more like 1500+ nits ) to upgrade from a AW3423DW. Still loving the thing everyday so no need to get anything new yet unless it gives a nice jump across all ranges. Its awesome seeing more QD OLEDs and WOLEDs hit the market along with budget Mini LEDs coming in. Maybe now with so many HDR monitors coming out and slowly getting in the more budget range we will see better/more games with HDR?

Suggestion, when looking at VRR, could you investigate how wide the sync window is? 60-240? 48-240? Also LFC (will the display handle dips below sync window gracefully) should be included in your essentials list. According to Freesync Premium certificate the unit should have LFC, but it woul be good to know for cheaper units in case we get more semi-baked AAA games like starfield 😅

great review as always Tim. But to anyone that may buy this or any other Asus monitors and if you need to file a warranty claim, GOOD LUCK !!! ... I've had to file a warranty claim with them before and boy was that a bad experience. I didn't have the issue of taking days for them to respond and send someone to pick up the monitor from me, and luckily you don't spend a penny in sending the monitor back. But their QC in the warranty department is abysmal at best. Twice I had my monitor return to me the same exact box after it was picked up, 2 days in a row. And I was sent 4 replacements, one worse than the other until the last one. 1 that had same issue as mine, another way that had worse issue than mine. 1 that the menu buttons and the direction toggle to navigate didn't work, I could only open the menu but could not change any settings and it was stuck in another language as well. And then the last one which had very minimal bright spot, but which point I was fed up and sold that monitor and just bought another one instead, as a downgrade as well, because that monitor was my first IPS panel, and after all the experience I just went back to TN, until recently. And I vowed to myself never to buy an Asus monitor again. OLED because of this risk of burn in is not good for me, although colours looks amazing specially blacks. My dad has a laptop with an OLED panel. I had a phone burn in on me as I needed to use for work for several hours of static content, so for now I'll stick with my IPS Mini Led panel
