I became a minimalist 6 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I’m no longer chained to my stuff, my home is always visitor ready and I have time for my hobby Gardening ❤️
@Shaara1
@Shaara1 11 ай бұрын
"Visitor ready" I have to keep this expression in mind. My biggest fear that someone comes unexpectedly. I still have clutters in boxes from last year to sort out. I keep going around it. And it's just the ones that are boxed. And I keep excusing myself in front of guests that "I'm just in the middle of decluttering"...yeah, for 2 years now.

@@Shaara1 it took me a year to get rid of unwanted stuff. Don’t look at the whole room but clear out one drawer a day. I had the DAV truck on a weekly pickup. I still am getting rid of unwanted things. It’s a lifetime process. Everything needs a home. If there is no home for it then it needs to go. Good luck on your journey

Decluttering for me is an ongoing process. There is always more I can let go of. I was inspired by the way you have paired down your craft and art supplies. I really need to do that! I contacted a local senior center to see if they wanted the craft supplies I need to purge, and they do. It will be nice to know someone will enjoy the supplies for all the things I thought I was going to make😂😂😂.

Totally agree that useless, extraneous or out-of-date items just clutter up our lives without giving anything positive back. The time and money spent "recreational shopping" could be used more productively as well.

We have become Minimalists, again within the last year or so. We're both in our 70s, married 56yrs & have had Alot of "Stuff"! Our Home always APPEARED to be organized & Clean & on the surface it was, however, there was LOTS of Storage Boxes! "Things" "Stuff" Most of it we didn't even remember was there in a Box stored in a Closet or the Pantry! We've been in this House 22yrs (after we moved from AZ to TN) and we'd put everything in File Boxes (which stacked neatly) Those items that we knew we had to sort thru was "Haunting" us! Like you, we started with Minimal "Stuff" when first married, but over the years it Increased & needed to be "Stored" (in case you ever need it again or bc it was sentimental) After a recent debitilating illness, & slow recovery, I decided "It Is Time". We began to sort thru Baby Clothes (from our 2 sons aged 55 & 48) Old pictures ( now where's that Album they should be in?) Memobilia of All Kinds! Kitchen Gadgets & Appliances we never use! Some like New! (Most of it went to a newly married couple across the street) The Pantry was a mess & nothing was organized except a few cans & boxes of food, no Containers! Now neat Pantry Storage baskets, that are labeled, line the Shelves & Everything is in its own Labeled Basket! The Guest Room Closet (which also contained 50+ Items of clothes I could no longer fit into (8 sizes too big) was GUTTED! I'm not even going to talk about the Garage or the Desk & Book Cases in the Den! (All neatly stored in UNLABELED Containers, of course) EVERYTHING had to be downsized! We have been Ruthless! Little by little we realized that our Health was improving! Why? Bc too much "Stuff" hinders the flow of Freedom & Good Mental Outlook! It's True! Just watch "Hoarders" a few times! They're ALL Sick! And we are getting better as we get rid of all this Stuff! It's like Purging! Our sons don't want to have to do it after we die, either! So for EVERYONE'S Health were doing it & when we open those doors & look in we know everything we have is Functioning things we REALLY need! There's no better feeling than knowing you've accomplished getting it done & saving only those things that are Serving you, not just being "Stored for Future Use"! 😊🌷

This video was so needed. The issue of unnecessary clutter in my life is real, but sometimes you just need to hear it from someone in order to really pay attention. I had learned to live with the stress. I did not attribute the anxiety, procrastination, lack of focus, etc., on the clutter, but hearing this makes SO much sense. Thank you so much sweet Noemi.❤

Oh, the chocolate stash - 😂😂😂 That was hilarious, especially your face when you looked at the basket. You talked about the big declutter years ago and it made me want to go back to your older videos, which I saw when I first found your channel a couple of years ago. That will be fun to look at, especially with the feeling that we've watched your kids grow up. My son got his drivers license this week - 🤯 so more changes here as he started driving to the school. Maybe I will distract myself with some decluttering while I figure out what comes next. It feels like a new season & cleaning and decluttering helps calm frazzled nerves!

I usually keep up with clutter but I will admit, my craft room/office needs to be decluttered again. One tip you gave was to set 10 minutes aside everyday to clean or organize something and this has been a tremendous help to me. My kitchen cabinets/drawers are always so tidy and clean now along with the rest of the house where we forget to keep up on some of the little things that make a big impact. Great video 🤗

Very thoughtful and thorough. Watching your channel, I discovered my bad habit of keeping or wearing things that are not in good enough condition to donate. I believe this habit comes from a compulsion to completely use something up before disposing or replacing it. The goal seems to avoid waste BUT THE RESULT is to not look my best and the perpetuation of clutter that is worn and raggedy. Your example has taught me to keep only the best tools, clothing, supplies and other items to create a best life and present my best self at all times. This approach expresses self-love and an attitude of valuing relationships with family and friends. For example, now everyone gets to eat off the good china all the time. And I no longer wear clothing with stains or holes even when I am scrubbing toilets or painting walls. My home is a work in progress and so am I. And I will take progress, every little bit of progress, any day . Thank you for your examples and inspiring points of view. You are making a difference. ❤️☕🍒🌞🪴🏵️🧡

When starting a project feels painful to me, I play a little game with myself where I put on a TV program that does not require much attention (my favorite are the singing competitions and talent shows) and I only force myself to do the challenging work during the commercials. I get a little done at a time or once I start I keep going until the task is done. The commercial-break game motivates me, gets me up and moving again when I take a break and makes me laugh ( at myself). That overwhelming feeling is very real and debilitating for me. I don't mind tricking myself into action to get me past that mental block. I hope you like this "game" idea.

I can identify! I'm so overwhelmed, especially with so little space in a condo, to store things. However, I have things stored for the last 10+ years that I have not tended to for which I could say 'so long' you were good to have for a while. Your home tastes are so refreshing - very Skandish! I love your natural wooden closets, shelves, and storage boxes, etc. My family is partly Scandinavian: small percentages of each Viking country, hence, my general tastes.

Hi My Friend……This was another great video with logical and helpful tips. I love the storage in your bedroom closet. I try to reset my "Decluttering" every 4 months. Its amazing what we bring in our lives and home in just a short amount of time. Having less bring space for new ideas and like you said "peace". I've been a minimalist for the past 7 years and boy is it hard but I really see the benifits. As to the white cabinets in your 'restaurant" where did you get them. They look so nice. And I see you raised the level of your entry shelf, its musch higher. I like your capsole wardrobe too. Ok....the day is waiting for me to be productive and intentional. Till next time!!!!!🤗

Hello! 😃 I agree stuff can sneak in fast! 100% we can get stuck with ideas, creativity and life general by the clutter. A home refresh is important! The white cabinets here's a video on it when we made it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e96RY8V5xLjFlqc.html the doors are from ikea the side was built by Z and the shelves too. Here are the door knobs from amzn.to/44BfNdj The fact that Z made the cabinet we just bought the door helped to adjust to the space , make it bigger and save money. I wish you an amazing weekend filled with relaxing and intention time!💗😃💗🤗☕🌻

Greetings from North Corvallis,Oregon. I truly enjoy your videos, very inspiring to downsize and release clutter. Please take this as an explanation of how hard it is to let things go. You moved here probably without a lot of family items, furniture, kitchenware, possessions of your grandparents, great grandparents. So many peoples ancestors came in the late 1800's and have been blessed with beautiful things its hard to part with. Now comparing the 60's, 70's and 80's accumulated stuff when next to the older pieces really helps to decide. Your idea of lining stuff up and deciding what's really important works so well. I would choose a beautiful piece of furniture or whatever over newer accumulated items and that's what I am doing. Having a husband who builds is creating your own history for you and your boys, the wheel turns. Thanks you for your down to earth attitude, simple pleasures, and working to be self sustainable,, I am 68 and for over 45 years have tried to be that way, I just loved estate and garage sales way to much 😊 So I am making a vintage store in my barn and going to try and sell most of my dear stuff, maybe my stress level will go down having it gone, less work and my kids will not have to deal with it! Keep going, you have touched many lives!

We recently moved to our forever home on a piece of land and everything we own had to fit into 27m2 wooden house. We actually were minimal before so through that I realised we already had everything we needed and downsizing some clothes and a set of drawers wasn't a dent in my psyche. It made me realise that we had already been on that journey and it also made me realise that it takes a while to really get down to what you truly need and as you say in your lovely video...being honest with yourself. Really love your home, you have made it work so well for you and your family.

Noemi has broken down this whole clutter problem in a way that I’ve never seen or heard before..the problems clutter causes in our lives😢Im trying to simplify and have been having a hard time deciding what to let go of. I’m going to try putting the items in a pile and see if comparing them will help me to make the decision of which items are Less important. Also I like your thoughts on if I have good knife skills, I won’t need all the slicers dicers and mincers in my kitchen. Dear Noemi! Such true words!! And indeed it’s a process all our lives…I also feel extremely stressed when there is a mess around me, I am cleaning up one room everyday, that helps me to calm my mind and to feel more relaxed! So thx very much for this video! I really enjoyed it! I wish you and your family a nice weekend…. We have great heatwave over here in southwest Germany, so calming down is the real thing at the moment! Lots of love from Iris ❤😊

Less is more. My sweet mother, who passed last december, was a master at decluttering. She was 100% Norwegian. Bless her sweet soul. Her second marriage was abusive, but I couldn't help her with this. She left us and moved away. Yet, she still understood the power of less. I miss her so.

Noemi, thank you for your video. I found you today when someone mentioned how helpful your videos are. Your reasons made a lot of sense. I will use some of your points in collaboration with some other KZfaq posters that have been helping me on the decluttering journey.
