After some last minute insulation of the cargo doors, I travel up on 24th December and spend Christmas with my nephew Dan, my nephew Phil, his fiancée Kate and her parents. Happy times! We visit York on Boxing Day and after that, I have vanlife overnight stays in the surrounding areas.
See me literally get blown away by the weather in Whitby, while I do the tourist thing and look at really old stuff.

Can't beat that feeling. Slip behind the wheel and the next adventure begins. Bet you catch yourself looking over your shoulder to give her one last look before you go indoors ;-)

I do! And as long as I get my normal parking spot, I can see it out of the bathroom window too! 😍

Whitby is a nice old fashioned fishing town. Potentially a bit touristy, but not so bad when I went out of season... Take gloves. 😉

I know, but I've yet to toughen up for that! 😀 Plus a trip to a camp shop for warmer gear would be a good idea. 🤔😉

The insulation will make all the difference!

Definitely takes less time to heat up with the curtain and doors insulated and keeps the heat for longer.

Slipstreaming! Well I just learned something new! Yesterday when I was on the autoroute I noticed that if I followed a big lorry I didn't lose so much power up the hills and it was a much easier drive - I didn't know that had a name :-)

Let the lorries do the hard work of pushing the air out of your way! I hadn't considered how much drag the split charging would have on the alternator and my MPG is miserably low now. If your house battery is not a priority, disconnect your relay and you might enjoy another 5MPG.

That's interesting as I wouldn't have thought it made any difference at all, learning from you and others Mevi. Where does the drag factor originate?

Slipstreaming is catching a ride in the wake behind the vehicle in front. The air following the truck is moving at a similar speed so pushing through the air is easier.

Hi, do you regret having a single bed across the van is it that uncomfortable. Im planning my build and thinking about a standard double across the van. worst case for me i could lay diagonal. my van is a long wheel base transit, im thinking by having a double i can have in van storage under one half and garage style under the other. Thanks for your vlogs really informative.

Thanks Colin. 😎👍 The Ducato is wider than a transit, so consider that your bed will be a lot shorter than a regular bed. I'm 5'11" and it's taken me a *long* time to get used to a bed that is the same length as me. Having underbed storage that is accessable from inside the van is a good idea - mine is open to the inside and rear so I don't have to exit the van when being stealthy. That said, my underbed storage is not used efficiently. If I could be arsed to change the van, I would go lengthways single bed on one side of the van. Longer bed, lower and doubles as a sofa. Plenty of useable storage space underneath. I think I would probably keep a gangway so I could enter and exit the van from the back doors too.

Hi, how tall are you mate? I heard you say the bed was too short.

5'11". It's taken me a while to get used to sleeping in a bed that is the same length as me. I think it's quite possible to have a slightly longer bed if you use some of the space in the wall cavity. I went all in on my insulation (no regrets) so I compromised with the bed length. It's also only 90cm wide, so diagonal sleeping is only just do-able. Look for the channel LiveLifeInABox who built a wall frame to sit inside the cavity. It gave them an extra few inches bed length.
