HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

At 23:46 You might want to have those white fibers tested for Asbestos. "Asbestos was commonly added to wire insulation and electric motors to protect against overheating and prevent fires. While the asbestos in these products was generally encased inside, users could be exposed if the products were opened, such as during repairs." Most likely, the insulation is NOT asbestos, unless the motor is a class F or class H motor.

In America, we have banned asbestos....... and it's still being made and used in hundreds of products in use today globally.

I was thinking it was fiberglass added to strengthen the resin coating on the wire like how you make a boat. Maybe something done due to the extreme weight of the motor for stability. The resin burned off but fiberglass doesn’t melt outside of a furnace so it was left behind.

You sound like a professional. Thanks for informing everyone. I'm a plumber and am aware that asbestos is everywhere. We have apx 600,000 miles of transit pipe on potable water mains in the USA that are 40-45 years past like expectancy as an example. Transition is also known as A.C. pipe which is short for asbestos concrete. When we remove it there is massive material loss in evidence and it's gotten very soft.

@@kyoudaiken yeah i noticed the humidity is typically low on the gauge he shows. I live in the US but if you go to like Las Vegas area and its like 100F degrees and like low low humidity and it dont feel to bad. Now i live in New England area and in the summer when its 90 out, the humidity will be crazy high and just sucks. you walk 10 feet and your dripping sweat and the air is just wet, morning dew never dries up. I would take the dry heat any day.
@kyoudaiken
@kyoudaiken 4 ай бұрын
@@incredible5587 The majority of people don't know what the dew point and wet bulb temperatures are. Dew point is the temperature that when reached as a low, water will condensate. It is dependent on the air temperature and humidity. The wet bulb temperature is the temperature that results on a black bulb that is wet with the sun shining on it. It's the cooling effect temperature reached due to the evaporation of the water on the surface. Dew point gives you an indication about how the temperature and humidity feel like, the wet bulb temperature shows when it gets DEADLY if it's reaching close to your body temperature. Humidity is much more important than the temperature in summer!

Be very cautions of that white insulation fibre in the slots. Older large motors (pre 1999 in UK, not sure of Oz rules) sometimes used asbestos, which can cause serious long-term damage to the lungs.

Absolutely. He's much kinder to field mice than I am, too. When the field near my home was dug up for a strip mall, they chased the mice into my neighborhood by the thousands. It took weeks to get them out, but not before they'd ruined ALL the electrical wiring and pooped everywhere. The house had to be gutted and rebuilt, so we sold it.

Very good video mate! Love how you always incorporate a bit of your life outside of metal melting, into these videos. Please keep doing that. Also you should try get a hold of a locomotive traction motor one day haha, that'll bring in some serious copper

Super cool video. I love watching you work. A cool idea that I'd love to see you try as a project would be to create life-size sculptures of your doggos. Nordic gold would be cool, but even aluminum bronze would be awesome or even just straight copper

50:30 The “bowl of copper” made me think how awesome different shaped molds would be, like the size and shape of the bowl. Or spherical. I don’t know how hard it is to make those shapes, I assume ingots are the standard shape for a reason. Still, I enjoy the vids each week. Cheers!

Yes, it would be a bit odd. We’re in the middle of a three day heat wave atm so I can’t even use my furnace so unfortunately this weeks video won’t be very long although I did make a nice bar before the fire bans were put in place👊🏻😁.
