Honestly, this KINDA applies to the latest m1 pro and m1 max. Although personally, I would just go straight for 64GB of ram of you can afford it. Adobe sucks up a lot of ram and I do export stuff in Media Encoder and After Effects while working in Premiere Pro.

@@EwanLim yeah I see exactly what you mean. I would but then again I only edit for a hobby and the stuff I do isn’t 4k-8k. Like I only edit 1080p videos max and I haven’t done any 60fps work yet. I was looking into 32 gb tho because the jump I had from 4 to 16 originally was so large I wanna have that same/similar jump because I sometimes crash while on after effects adding certain plugins I didn’t think would cause issues.

@@kombokenji Oh.. if you're crashing then look into the cpu that you're using. If you wanna be safe about it then do get a 6-core cpu like a amd 5600x. Although an amd 3100 with 4-cores is fine, you may see some adobe crashes now and then. I would typically look into a cpu upgrade before upgrading from 16gb to 32gb. That is IF it crashes after using certain plugins. Just my 2 cents.

@@EwanLim Oh okay, thanks for the 2 cents because i've been stumped on the issue for a while now. Currently I use a Ryzen 1600 with a GTX 1060 and I have 16gb of ram but i'm looking to getting a laptop with better specs so I can edit on the go. I'll keep getting a better cpu in mind when purchasing something good enough for my needs

@@kombokenji You're welcome! Honestly getting a great CPU with 16GB of ram will be fine for normal 1080p editing. Just make sure that the footage is on an SSD and it'll feel speedy. a Ryzen 1600 is kinda old. Check if your current motherboard accepts one of the newer CPUs via a BIOS update. Upgrading a cpu will definitely be cheaper than getting a new Laptop.

I found that 32gb of RAM in Adobe After Effects tends to see 100% usage (redline) when working with 4K.... So, I probably will be upgrading to 64gb of RAM for After Effects, with Premiere I haven't run into any issues with 32gb of RAM when working with 4K....

was 64gb enough? i was wondering cause i just put 2 4k 10bit 4:2:2 each around 4min videos into premiere pro and pressed play and just by that i had 20gb or ram useage. i did not any filters or anything.

In my experience, with working with 4K in Premiere Pro.... at full quality.... With a Ryzen 7 3800X , and 32gb at 3200MHz of Corsair RAM, I would tend to see high percentages of usage when editing/adding layers/color grading/adding text layers, etc..... I did fine with it, but in Adobe After Effects, when working with Effects, etc..... I would see the 32gigabytes maxing out....in usuage, based on the Task manager....If you close all programs, and restart your computer, and go directly into Adobe After Effects after it has booted up, without doing anything else, you will be able to get more useage, but I would advise for at least 64 gigabytes..... If you can option for it.....Some users claim that when working with After Effects in 4K that use up as much as 128gigabytes everytime.... I am planning on building a Threadripper with 128gb of RAM.... I have all the components, and will post a video up of the build here shortly.... Lord willing....

Due to COVID-19, my funding was impacted, and didn't upgrade, but I have all the parts for a Thread Ripper build now, with 128gb of ram, that I am getting ready to build.....which is upgradeable to 256gb of ram.... Due to the restraints I was seeing with 32gb of ram, I backed off for the moment, till I could upgrade... I just decided to do a new build altogether with much, much more ram....

typically i would say 32gb is good if u're using Adobe Premiere on PC. I just got the new m1 MacBook air 8gb ram and it is phenomenal. 4k with 3 layers of color correction, skin smoothening and denoising... it just flies during the edit. (Premiere Pro) If you're in the same boat as me then I would strongly advise on exporting to prores and transcoding it to h264. it saves time and maintains quality.

Hello man. What do you think about a Ryzen 7 5800X + RTX 3060 + 32GB RAM? Is that the sweet spot? I'm aiming for 1080p 60 FPS mostly and with moderate background usage like Google Chrome surfing, Discord and Spotify. And if it accomplishes that, how about also streaming (i.e. sharing screen on Discord or using OBS)? Your opinion would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Great vid :)
@EwanLim
@EwanLim 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely more than enough. The REAL important part is the CPU when it comes to editing, whilst the exporting times will be dependent on the gpu (if you enable hardware acceleration.) So the 8-core 5800x is fine, coupled with the 12gb 3060. 32GB ram is the sweeeeet spot if you're editing while having OBS and discord open. I do it all the time and it doesn't lag anything 'et all. (you could cheap out and use a 5600x, which will run fine with multi-tasking) Do take note that Valorant is CPU based so if you're planning on gaming WHILE exporting... you mayyy lag a bit in game. Hahahahaha (personal experience) Don't export while playing a competitive match.

@@EwanLim Thank you for your quick reply! Wow, not everyone does that and I REALLY needed an opinion! I'll sub to you man, nice content! And yeah haha, I wasn't thinking in gaming while exporting. My main usage will be that one I described using DaVinci Resolve but also music production using heavy sample based instruments and, of course, gaming! XD 1080p gaming :p So video editing, music production, gaming and streaming: a jack-of-all-trades you may say :p

@@jesusgst IF you are thinking of doing JUST work and strictly no gaming then I would suggest looking at the m1 Macs. if you have a monitor then get the Mac mini m1. They are very awesome for the value (especially if you're going to use Davinci and music DAW). As a fellow musician with a useless music performance degree, I can tell you that in general, Mac is kinda better creative-wise but if you're into VST plugins and etc then PC is the way to go. IF you are gonna game then the set-up you're looking at will definitely be pretty baller and up to the multi-tasking stuff you will be doing. IF you had the choice, I would go for the 5600x and an RTX 3070 instead. Although CPU is important but the 3070 will help out with high resolution playback and super quick exporting. Would you miss those extra 2 cores? ONLY if you are running a few heavy workloads at once. If you do want to stick to the 8-core 5800x then do check if you have the extra cash for the 3070. Performance wise, it is better. I would go for the 3060 ONLY IF I am using a couple of GPU intensive programs at the same time. That 12GB GPU will come in handy in that instance. Davinci Resolve on a PC will eat up quite a bit of RAM, CPU and GPU at the same time so I'm not sure if you would need to prioritise playback performance while multi-tasking (3060) or exporting speeds (3070) (3060 vs 3070 for Davinci Resolve requires a whole ted talk on GPU Ram). I'm currently using a 5600x with a GTX 1660 and it has been pretty great so far. I work on premiere pro while exporting in after effects while streaming and a few dozen chrome tabs open. 6-cores feels totally fine to me and there has been no stuttering. I switch between that and my m1 MacBook Air 8GB ram, Davinci Resolve's latest update works crazy well on that. 8GB ram on the m1 chip... super surprising. Anyway, I'm just here to help out fellow video people. (Been too busy with work to output any new videos despite having a whole load of content on a hard drive)

@@EwanLim Hello! You don't know how grateful I am for you to spare me some of your time and answer and tip me! Really appreciated! And I love to get feedback from a fellow musician more experienced on the field! 🎵 Actually I was aiming for the 5600X like you were because its performance is just incredible compared to last generation (and I love the new Zen 3 architecture) but I saw the 7800X at a HUGE deal of just 350 USD, that is only 50 USD more than the MSRP of the 5600X. Just 50 dollars of difference! I even find this 7 5800X cheaper than the 5 5600X at some websites, which is just crazy. And yeah, I thought at some point about Apple's Macs and I know for sure they're the best for this kind of stuff (video editing and music production because of its performance, stability and compatibility), but I find the PC more versatile and I can't help but feel like I'm getting less for the same amount of money going for Apple's, although I know this might not be true because, for example, it isn't the same 8GB of RAM for Windows general PC than for a Mac. The Mac can do way more because of its optimization. I think I might need to check some of Apple's products, but I just can't stop to feel I'd get way more going for a PC lol. Besides I'm thinking in doing gaming too and multitasking, so that's another shot for PC. About getting a RTX 3070 at the cost of lowering from a 7 5800X to a 5 5600X, I think I'm prioritizing CPU because I found it really cheap like I said before and also because I'll be doing heavy VST load on Kontakt and other Samplers, like you stated before, so I think that depends on the CPU and RAM, right? 🤔 Also because the 3070 just goes out of my budget. :( But yeah, I hope not to have to update any component in a couple of years 😅 What do you think? 🤓 Thanks! And don't worry, channels take their time, so do you. 🤗 I'll wait for your next one! 🤓

@@jesusgst WHAT?! THAT IS CHEAP. -slams hands on the table- Ditch the 5600x and get the 5800x!!! And YES. PC is wayyyy more versatile to be honest. You can stream with 0 issues on a PC while on a Mac... I do stream on a mac but it such a hassle as you need to jump through flaming hoops and exploding barrels whilst getting slapped like that lecturer from whiplash (those types of lecturers are real back in the day. The one line that stuck from my old teacher was, "You're so out of tune that you make the tuner out of tune.") Mac is great cause of the optimization for sure. Macs usually works super well till it decides not to. For VST plug-ins and etc, yes, they are RAM and CPU dependent. Just visuallize 4GB of Ram per core (wrong visualization but it does help when deciding on what you need if you don't want to think too much). When you do load up all of the plug-ins into a billion track project, it does add up. You'll have to start bouncing tracks at that point anyway. Good luck on the build!!! (Oh and if u're short on cash then just get a normal eSata ssd instead of a NvMe SSD at the start. You can get the NVMe SSD later on. You don't need 3000mb/s when the program just needs like 100mb/s when loading wav/mp3 files.)
