Coolest thing I listened and played along to. The urge to overplay is insane with the blues. Gotta work on that. You're a real inspiration

Hi Aimee, just to let you know that I was in a very dreadful place yesterday and your blues took me out of the blue. I loved it. A very big hug from one of the darkest corners of the world. Thank you, really, thank you. Farewell from Brazil.

Love it. Similar to an exercise I’ve been enjoying lately where I solo as if I’m doing single-note embellished comping. Makes me mindful of every ninth or thirteenth I choose rather than running around scales. Lines are sparser with more interesting rhythm, and the voice leading is better.

Wow! Aimee, that was brilliant. After about half a minute, I was waiting for your 'Welcome....', and then I waited....eventually I got what you were doing. After about 5 minutes I really locked down with it, and around 7 minutes in, I GOT IT!! Thank you so much for that! I stayed all the way through, and it has been a real door-opener for me. I'm years behind you as a pianist: in fact, I'm not a jazz pianist at all, I'm a singer/songwriter. But I've been studying jazz for a few years to become a better pianist. You really cleared it up for me with that beautiful journey; I could literally 'see' the music coming out of your hands. Coltrane would have loved what you did. I sure did. Thanks so much......

Transcribe what she is playing, and play along with her. At first you might find it difficult, but keep at it. Soon you should be able to play right along with her. Transcribing and playing along will help your phrasing and feel as well as give you ideas.

you may as well do a video where you improv say 8 bars, then 8 bars of silence, and so on ... so we can virtually jam with you. that wouln't be a real jam since we could respond to you but it wouldn't be mutual, but it'd be sure fun

This may be a dumb question, but can you explain the difference between "the blues" and "a minor blues"?
@AimeeNolte
@AimeeNolte 4 жыл бұрын
The easiest answer is that all of the dominant 7 chords from the blues get switched to minor chords in a minor blues. All except for the V chord at the end.
@dpflynn59
@dpflynn59 4 жыл бұрын
Aimee Nolte Music Thanks, Aimee. So I usually use minor blues scales, dominant scales (mixo), and dominant Bebop scales over the dominant cords in the blues. I guess the Dorian would replace the Mixolydian. Maybe add the flat 6 for sort of a minor Bebop scale?

Hey Aimee. You're so good. But you sound like practicing when playing. You practice sounds like a teaching drill. It's like beginners books with basic etudes. At this stage, with your skills and musicality, you should be playing at much higher level. More freely. With more risky stuff and virtuosity.
