Great video. Might try a new belt first but good option! Would suggest putting the extra washers on the hairpin so they don’t get lost.

Thanks Jim for posting this informative video. I inherited my Father's SR150 331413KVE 24 years ago. It has always been a bear to adjust the belt on that square frame machine. Your video has given me some much needed insight on how this adjustment system works. Come spring time I will procure the correct belt adjustment parts n pieces to make this mower correct.

Hi LEE JOHN - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I have a Series 16 square tube model and discovered that Snapper states that no adjustment is possible. Look up the interweb and download the correct manual for your specific machine before you spend any money. Refer to my response to Jim for further info. Good Luck.

Hi LEE JOHN - Big Rodders again. I checked up the Parts Manual for series 13. It appears that your model is adjustable, unlike my series 16 square tube model. The spacer number is listed as 2-2589, it's a different design to Jim's example and the bolt arrangement differs also. There are 2 spacer washers on the bolt and you remove one for each spacer you fit to stretch the machine. It's vital you research your specific machine before purchasing. Hope this helps somewhat.

@@rodneysweetnam8653 Thanks for the reply. I knew that my Series 13 is adjustable. It is just a Bear to adjust correctly. I tried to make my own spacers but that did not turn out as well as I expected. I will do an Internet search to find the correct spacers. I have this mower slated to be worked on this spring. New boots, a new smooth clutch assembly, belt and a general look over of the rest of the mower. This mower is currently equipped with a Snapper Ninja blade used for mulching Pin Oak leaves from 12ea. 40 year old Pin Oaks. I plan to just hand file sharpen the Ninja Blade. I have set this mower aside to be used only for Fall Cleanup Duties. I have several other Snappers available for regular grass cutting duties.

@@JohnLee-ug8ol Hi LEE JOHN - Big Rodders again. Interesting insight into your operation. Bring a Snapper enthusiast in Ireland is a lonely hobby so I enjoy interaction from across the pond. Our specific experiences may differ but I imagine our challenges are similar i.e. prevent the belt slipping when engaged but ensure blade spindle stops when belt disengaged. Unsure whether you have one or two idler pulleys but I learnt it's vital to ensure that all pulleys are precisely in line, especially when belt is engaged. My belt jumping issue turned out to be due to this issue and not a tensioning problem as first assumed. What part of the States are you in?

Jim forgot to tell you fella that I used Nylatron that was 1/16 thick sheet. That is what I had and it worked perfect. The sheet is still hanging on the cellar wood beam if I need some I have some left. Really tough stuff for sure with excellent lubrication. Peace Jim

Jim, in theory why not just replace the deck belt when it gets stretched and worn, that way you could avoid buying the shims?
@jimjackson93813 жыл бұрын
Well unfortunately all the belts are not made in the same countries. And the sizes are not the same a brand new belt may be longer than your old stretched out one, or shorter than a new one from a different country. Jim

Hi John it’s Jim, if you’re looking for a plow blade for your snapper I’ve sold a couple of them but I don’t have any right now they haven’t made those for about 35 years so they’re hard to come by, and I am in Michigan. Jim

Hi Jim - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I am somewhat confused. The photo appeared to me to be of a square tube model. I have one such model, E281216BE, and the manual specifically states that no adjustment is possible and the only option is to fit a new belt, my model has 1 fixed idler and 1 tensioning idler, which might be relevant. Suggest to Larsen to look up the interweb, get the specific online manual for his machine and study it as Snapper seems to have used different belts sizes on different series. The two parts of my machine are held together differently to the round tubed ones, mine has tbe ability to hold only the original 1/4inch circular spacer between the swivelling surfaces. I spent hours researching an issue I had and I made up 8mm spacers (1/4 inch = 6.35mm) out of a plastic chopping board to experiment but had to make my own bolt arrangement to rejoin both parts of the chassis as the original one was then too short. Stretching the chassis did not sort my issue out, just resulted in the blade not disengaging. I will email you with my issue and resolution but that's a different story.

Hi Jim - Big Rodders again. As the old saying goes - "Every day is a school day" and I'm not now as confused as before! I have been in touch with LEE JOHN as well as scouring the interweb and discovered that all the square tubed models are not the same. My Series 13 cannot be adjusted while his Series 16 can, to the extent of 2 spacers. The spacers and the retaining bolt/pin are different to the round tubed models. Will be in touch. Keep on Snappin!

@@rodneysweetnam8653 Correction time Sir. My SR150 is a 331413KVE. It is a 33" cut 14hp series 13 with a Kohler Command 14hp Vertical Shaft OHV Engine. With a manual pull start & an electric start. She is a rugged old girl but come this spring she will be getting some TLC that is long overdue.

@@JohnLee-ug8ol - Big Rodders again. Apologies for my error. I always proof read my comments but obviously failed on this occasion. To clear up any misunderstanding for interested subscribers - my machine is a Series 16, whose belt cannot be adjusted while your Series 13 mower can be stretched to tension the belt. The parts manual drawing suggests you can install a max of 2 spacers.

The part number on the shim to extend your frame for tightening your belt depends on your model number of your machine if you go to parts tree with your model number you can find the shim. Jim
