When I came home from Iraq, I spent 17 months in Montana building a small 12x16 cabin by myself, and my dog. I can't tell you the amount of s**t I worked out in my mind while I was alone up there. I had an old neighbor about a mile away that came to visit me once or twice a week. What started as a 10-15-minute talk eventually ended up as a whole day of us sitting on the porch, talking and drinking coffee. I learned that he had moved up there after Vietnam, and he lived out of his truck for two years while he built his (larger than mine) cabin. He lived up there until last year when I went to visit and found out he had passed away in his cabin. He had no family to leave it to, so I said my goodbyes and left a shot on the porch in his honor. It's amazing the people God puts in our lives when we need it most. I'm crying right now writing this because without this man, I never would have survived. I would have survived the physical aspect of my build, but the mental aspect of my past was so heavy, so overbearing, that I don't think I would have survived. Toward the end of my build my best friend showed up and spent almost a month with me. He's the reason why I came out of the woods. I subsequently found my wife, had three daughters, started and sold a business, and now that they are all past high school and into college, my wife and I are heading back into the woods in May. Building a cabin is good for the soul, the body, and the mind. Thank you for sharing this journey you guys went on. The brothers beside you brought back some serious emotions I now know how to handle. Thank you. God bless.

I'm reading this and it just gave me an idea. Most people will say pray god, believe in god and all that sh*t. But we all know that doesn't work. It might help a little, but it's not the solution. The solution might be..... you and yor wife. Here's my idea: Why not creating a foundation to help veterans with PTSd and other people dealing with stress and sh*t to buy a little piece of land and teach them how to build a cabin? You could have a location where to teach people and also have people helping to find affordable land. You could also start a chain. Like having a group of 5 people helping each to build their cabins. Then a second group and so on. This way, not only you'd be perpetuating what you and your friend had, honor his memory, help lots of people, and certainly preventing death...

What a sad & ultimately a beautiful story. I'm so happy that your life went in a positive direction. Here in the U.K. it's impossible to do as you did. God bless & keep you & your family. M.F.McCorriston U.K. 🍀🇮🇪🏴🙏🏴🇮🇪🍀

Brilliant film, very entertaining. I almost cried as you raised the flags on your renovated cabin. My wife and I are 70 years old now but we began homesteading 25 years ago on our 12.75 acres in Mississippi. We built our own buildings, fences and house with our own hands. We have been married for 51 years, almost 52 years actually. We are best friends and companions. Neither of us has had an employer since we bought our place. We trusted GOD to provide all our needs and HE has done that abundantly. We live this everyday albeit in luxury compared to you guys. Now let's see you guys live there full time for the rest of your lives. That would be a real challenge for sure! Guy in Columbia Mississippi

One is married, one has a band, one works at a company and my son plays soccer and does Realistate, photography and works with a pro soccer team. But, they some how have found away to come together every now and then to do a project or go away somewhere to be together. I really hope you four will forever be close. Because I really miss it. You guys have certainly proven that 4 can get way more done than 2. Even with the extras like more food, chainsaw and other necessities, the extra 2 pair of hands can make a huge difference. What you brave men were able to accomplish just shy of 3 weeks into this trip was phenomenal, especially the distance into the bush you had to go. I am surprised you only had to deal with a few mice. That's grizz country, guys. Guns are essential. I know. I built a cabin in Chitina, AK with my ex and the bear on the property was not uncommon, moose and wolverine as well. I moved closer to the city after we broke up and now am an old disabled lady, but never will forget my "build in bush country." Hope you guys can spend lots of summers at this awesome cabin. There's nothing like an Alaskan summer!
