Gavin was looking to expand his business portfolio so I financed his purchase of a 34-Ton Log Splitter. This Champion model from Home Depot is strudy looking, but will it split as good as it looks?
Come along for the ride and we'll find out together!

Go, Gavin, love your desire to become an entrepreneur, keep up the enthusiasm. I'm sure you will make it, also always remember what President Calvin Coolidge said: “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. So If at first, you don't succeed, try, and try again. especially using OPM :)

Hi Matt, good job helping Gavin get started, from an old sales guy (Me) one little tidbit needs changing. At the end of the video, you said "go get yourself one" you should edit that to say. If you need one come and rent it from Gavin. :)

Great video. Love the father & son interaction. Teaching your son to work hard, accomplish something, and try a small business venture with a little risk. Well done dad!

Always check the hose fittings and make sure they’re tight. They’ve been known to fly off and spray fluid everywhere

Informative video. Thank you. The price for the 37-ton version of this splitter at the Home Depot near me is currently $1599, which is an even better deal than the $1710 you spent on the 34-ton version 1:10

Nice! Mine's still running strong. I did have to top off the hydraulic fluid. It came with fluid but it was a little low.

It's a great splitter. I own one - mine sounds different. I hear a slight high pitch wine in yours - not sure what that is. Great job getting them to lower that price. Go Gavin - hats off to a young man starting off early!

Thanks Daniel. We’ve put around 8 or 9 cords through it and it’s doing well. A thirsty devil though! The ram gets hot, but we work it pretty hard when we can get out there.

@@MattsGarage I am still very concerned about that whine noise. Did you buy it pre-assembled?
@MattsGarage
@MattsGarage Жыл бұрын
@@danielwillliams9669 hi Daniel. yes it was pre-assembled. I think that whine you are hearing is an artifact of compression from the microphone. It doesn’t sound like that in person. It just sounds like any other small four stroke when we are using it. We’ve put 8 or 9 cords through it so far with no issue.
@danielwillliams9669
@danielwillliams9669 Жыл бұрын
@@MattsGarage Okay, if it's microphone feed back and you don't hear the whine - then I figuring you guys are all set. It had me feeling like when the power steering pump was low on fluid and you get that annoying whine.

I had mine for I want to say 5 years now, I run many many cords through it every year, I only had problem early on, the older ones like mine has a different air box, it fills completely up in the rain, goes through the carb, into the cylinder, it froze & ruined my carb, I keep it covered now with no issues

34 ton championlog splitter designed to catch rain water and direct it to the cylinder. I live near the Olympic rain forest, we work rain or shine. We can leave some tools in the rain while working with other equipment while it rains. After cutting several trees down, cutting them to length.. we went to split the wood with the 34 ton splitter.. it failed to turnover.. it was seized up. We pulled the spark plug and looked down in the cylinder… It was full of water. The only thing we figured is the air filter is designed to channel water down into the carburetor, thus into the cylinder. I would steer, clear of the Champion 34 ton splitter. .. unless you never work in the rain.

@@MattsGarage I split wood the last 3 days. Its 95 degrees outside and after 45 minutes the ram is 170 degrees on my heat gun. Tank is at 140 degrees. I'm going to change the filter and fluid. I'll let you know if this helps.
