In my first service as an acolyte, during midnight mass. I carried the cross in procession, and got tangled up in the advent wreath hanging before the altar. A few people actually cheered when I managed to wiggle it loose without tearing everything down 😓 Even mistakes are made devoutly.

In my Episcopal diocese, you have to be conferred to the ministry of acolyte. It's not the same as being ordained, but it's similar. It is your priest that confers you. A chalice minister has to go through different training and is approved by the local bishop before being conferred by a priest. I have both ministries. I love serving CHRIST and his church.

I was an Acolyte in the Episcopal Church we had Torches in procession with the Crucifer, and the Crucifer took care of lighting the candles

Hey Chuck, I come from Germany and wanted to ask wether an acolyte is the same as an altar server. I wanted to spend a year in the US, and wrote in my first letter to the potential family, that I am an acolyte. Is it the same?

a.w.l. yea it's pretty much the same. If your 16 and older, your considered a Eucharistic minister. But if you are 16 and younger, then your an acolyte
