None of us is perfect. My 2nd husband's fingers curled in and he had an operation. The condition was called Dupitron's Contracture. Not sure if that's the right spelling. He was then able to use a hammer etc.

Actually, that's not true for David Bowie. He actually suffered from anisocoria: when one pupil was bigger than the other. It means that the iris - the coloured bit - can't react to light in the same way as its fellow, so the area appears to be darker. This means it looks like one eye is a different colour to the other. He'd said in an interview once, that it happened when he was a kid.
