If you're heavily invested in Toyota Tacoma off-road scene, then you've likely considered running 35-inch tires before.
In our opinion, there are few things as cool as running 35-inch tires on a Toyota Tacoma. Unlike running 33-inch tires, you need to plan a little more meticulously to go up to 35-inch tires on a Tacoma.
In this Toyota Tacoma 35-inch tires guide, we'll cover all of the key details that you should know before investing.
0:00 Who are 35-in tires best for?
2:02 Mods you need to run 35s
3:22 How much will it cost to run 35s?
4:39 Pros of 35-in tires on a Tacoma
5:17 Cons of 35-in tires on a Tacoma
6:42 Final Remarks
Off-road, 35-inch tires will get you more performance in the context of giving you more clearance and the ability to roll over large obstacles.
There's also a "cool" factor that comes along with running bigger tires on your Tacoma.
On-road, 35-inch tires will change how your truck drives and they can bring down your gas mileage a little bit.
If you currently have 35-inch tires on your Tacoma, what do you like about them? Have you learned any lessons along the way?

Your right on with cost. Regear, suspension, CMR, fender trim, fender liner, engine tune, rims, tires, about $15,000 from a reputable builder in California. But I couldnt be happier.

There's definitely a ton of nuance to this topic. You can get away with a very aggressive chop and around a 2 - 2.5 inch lift by playing with tire width and wheel offset. Most 35s will be around 12.5 width. There's actually a ton of great options with a 35x11.50 that will make fitting much easier. That and keeping to a 0 offset or even positive offset. Not so positive that the tire rubs on the inside though. Like a +15mm up to a 0 is the key to easier fitment. Just a few things to keep in mind. Definitely cutting involved either way lol.

Agreed. My third gen is running icon stage 6 approx 2.5ish inches lift and a pretty aggressive CMC like you mentioned. 35x10.50s on 17x7 TRD wheels +6 offset. Very minimal rubbing only on full lock and full compression. Everyone wants the wider tires and they want ‘em to stick way out, . . . Now that’s when you’ll be cutting fenders and the rest of this stuff. My fenders aren’t cut and my 35s are looking sweet. Some people would rather have a daughter in a whore house than consider running PIZZA CUTTERS!

@brosapien5392 my only issue with 35x10.50 is the selection. To my knowledge you can get the Kenda Klever RT & MT. Venom Power makes a couple tires in that size. I think that might actually be it. The selection isn't huge in a 35x11.50 either, but Nitto makes their Ridge, Recon, and Trail Grapplers in that size. Toyo has the AT3 in that size. Even Falken has their new RT01 in that size. Hopefully Falken makes their AT3W in that size. I'm on 285/70R17 right now, so the 35x11.50 would keep the same width I have now but just taller.

What about -10?
@Clanc54R
@Clanc54R 6 ай бұрын
@chrisking6695 can definitely work. Just more cutting and fitting. I think you basically require a -10 or -12 to fit a 35x12.50. A 0 works kinda, but will rub most UCAs at full lock. That's why I love the 35x11.50. The more offset you go, the more you rub on the scrub. But if you go wider, you need more offset. Just becomes a headache. -10 isn't too much though. You can definitely get away with it with some patience. Hell I posted this so long ago though that I actually need the 0 offset for the same issue though. +15 causes me to rub slightly on the UCA with an 11.50 so I'll be switching to a 0 soon.

Probably the best break down on this subject and the things y’all mentioned I learned through a lot of comb through and reading so that I really appreciate. Currently my setup is 23 Taco with 6112/5160 on hvy OME leafs and OME UCAs on method 701 wrapped in 33 nittos. Full under armor with deck and leer xr. Have a CBI bumper with tire carrier on the way. Truck runs great. I would like to run 35s at some point and this video discussion helped me know I’m headed in right direction👍 but staying with 33s for now

Great clarity here👍 I have a 23 Tacoma I have the 6112/5160s hvy leads with UCA; run 33s but got the 35 bug now. This helps to start down that path. Gear change is next up. Any gears ⚙️ you recommend?

Definitely regear for 35s and a banks pedal monster, cause MPG isn’t a coefficient to consider once you’ve made the decision.

So, I’m getting Icon Stage 9 2.75in suspension, Yumkon 5.29, and body mount relocation done this month. I’d like to run 35in tires with that. Am I in the clear? I have the bronze TRD wheels so offset should be good.
@khlaire109
@khlaire109 Жыл бұрын
Honestly if you have that relocation, the only clearance you’ll have to do is the plastic and pinch welds- other than that you sound like you’ve got all set

I've seen a few videos of tacos on a 6inch lift with 35's and they don't rub, no cutting needed. What's y'all take on this? Only downside ive seen is you have to cut/notch your crossmember but other than that it seems to fit like a glove
@mtnyotas
@mtnyotas Жыл бұрын
We never advise a drop bracket kit. The truck will never drive the same once you cut out the stock frame crossmember :/ It will also always be out of alignment due to the aftermarket bolted on drop bracket. We actually will not even work on a truck that has a drop bracket kit on it! #JustSayNo

Depends how aggressively you regear when going up to 35s. If you go 5.29, you'll 100% have to revert back.

Having a lift does not change clearance of a tire. You do not need a lift. Also a 35 is only 1” more clearance from a 33”.
@mtnyotas
@mtnyotas 5 ай бұрын
A lift that isn't a drop-bracket kit does increase ground clearance, just not at your LCAs or axles... belly clearance and approach/departure angles are important too. Ground clearance on your axles is only changed with portals or bigger tires. A lift definitely creates tire clearance, and you may not "need" to lift the truck to fit bigger tires, but what's wrong with upgrading your suspension and making it easier to run larger tires?
