Flathead Bonus! My flathead is a little newer 1946 but in the beginning I was completely stumped! Without the generous help of the Hokey Ass Message Board H.A.M.B. it would be yard art. I’m glad you have Matt’s help, car guys are a amazingly helpful group. Timing marks? We don’t need any stinking timing marks! Have fun gentlemen you’ll get it!

Thank you sir, Matt is definitely an asset to have helping us. I totally forgot about the H.A.M.B. I've been a member of that forum for years. We will get it in time. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned for more on this old truck.

That button on the shifter is the reverse lockout I believe. Stuck valves for sure, you should be able to see the valve tops through the plug hole. Spray some penetrating oil behind the valve. You may be able to tap the valve through the plug hole too. VERY CAREFULLY!! I'd suggest pulling the intake instead of a head if you do have some stuck valves. Much easier. And you can get at all 16 valves and see what's going on and lubricate and pry on them through the intake as well. Keep it up guys, love them flatheads! Thanks for commenting on my videos and leading me here!

Right on man. In a later video, you will see that we got it figured out. That flattie was a learning curve for both of us. Can't wait to get working on another one. Thanks for watching.

Over 70 psi is good for compression. My first rebuild was in 1952 I was 17. It sat on an engine stand in the Texaco gas station I worked in. I held a tomato can with gas in it. I smiled for a solid week. If I remember the car had 60 HP and the truck had 70 something like that, I think that is why the difference in head bolts. they are an easy engine to work on. "simple"! I seen them start after a very long time not running. I squirted a little oil in the Cyl. and turned it over by hand with fan till loose replaced plugs and a new battery and Boom it was running. I am a year younger than the truck. They used to sound great with dual Glass Pack exhausts.

Thanks for the info buddy. Hopefully we can get it running soon. Just waiting on a few more parts. Thanks for watching.

@@soberingrestorationservices Hi Thanks for answering. I'm sure you know it will run rough because of the low compression cylinders. I do know someone ones ran one with the bead off one side. LOL so it should run the way it is.. I do remember the distributor was a pain in the butt. We never touched them unless it was absolutely necessary. :O)
@soberingrestorationservices4 жыл бұрын
I'm hoping once we get it fired up the compression will improve on the low cylinders. I'm thinking it's got some stuck valves. We will be working on this guy soon. Thanks again for watching.

Once upon a time... before I was in kindergarten my BIG BROTHER , 14 yrs older than me ...was working on his 1941 ford business coupe . He needed someone to start it for him and he showed me how.I was on the very edge of the seat pushing down on the clutch when I turned the key and pressed the start button.It fired upright away and it seems like yesteryear again every time I talk about it .Would I blow the chance of ever owning his 1932 Ford when given the chance?I think you know the answer.How may kids that young knew a business coupe never had a back seat to begin with. I did and guess who taught me .

the distributer should be sent out to Bubbas ignition to get fixed, it needs to be put on a sun distributor machine. also the coil sent out to be rebuilt. the distributer only goes in one way, if its put in wrong you will break it. also the fan is wrong the one you have is for a passenger car a truck fan has a longer snout
