Border View Farms

11 күн бұрын

Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I am fortunate to be able to farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. Occasionally I'll get my dad in a video as well. While I am the 4th generation in my family to farm some of what we are still farming today, I really credit my dad with making our farm what it is. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
Please enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

Since the plastic connection on the hose is the weakest point, why not put a couple clamps around the hose with a small chain, so if the connection breaks, you won’t have to look for the hose.

I was going to suggest that same idea. I was going to say a tie down instead of a chain.

Nathan I realize this is a little bit late, however on some live streams, the creator pushes out a “coming up in x minutes”. I hate missing your livestreams and if you did so, the total number of viewers may increase. I can hardly wait to see the bu/ac on that field. Thanks for all the daily videos!

Sometimes I do that but when I don't know when I'm going to start that's hard to do.

Don’t let the naysayers get you down. I personally have been irrigating for 40 years and our farm has been irrigating since the 1950’s. We’ve probably done it every way imaginable except subsurface drip. I believe this system appears to be a good fit to replace hard hoses, especially in odd shaped fields. Watching with great interest. How do they deal with electric poles in the middle of the field?

I honestly wouldn’t be concerned at all about focusing the water right on the row. Once the corn is as large as it is now none of the water will be wasted.

Have Matte get a GOOD pair of rubber gloves. She can put round up with a sponge. Works great for gardening and flowers. Sorry I missed you live, looks like you have hit a homerun on the irrigation front. Hope you and all your family had a great Fourth. Might want to check tile in let's ect. Saying maybe 3 inches plus. TAKE CARE NATHAN !

You had mentioned running your row cleaners deeper to form a bit of a trench for the water. I think this would be a good advantage for the crops.

Nathan, as I know from so many videos that I have watched of yours, your a person, who takes immense pride in maintaining your equipment, will the 360 Rain take more maintenance to sit out side for the winter?

You could try to put a spring around the tube where it brake, like the grease gun tube

Google doesn't like you period. It hates us all equally. Except for it's misuse of sexual preference, anything decrepit Biden, all it's longitudinal leanings and proclivities and introspection & wayfarer money attributes, nothing at all pleases Youly Tubely.

Connection. Rigid I assume used to ensure drop is exactly where it’s meant to be. Flexible line might knock down plants and double up an adjacent row Wonder if a flexible yet supported connection maybe with an added weight ballast could address the above.

Have you considered using galvanized reducing swage nipples and clamps. They won’t breake.

Are the drops made of sch 80 PVC? You seem to be breaking them off. Is the top connection flexible?

Wouldn't the best fix to just change the plastic part to metal?

I was talking to my brother-in-law. He was actually just thinking about making a system like this for use in Africa. He said it needs to be solar-powered anyone have any thoughts on that? Seems like this needs a lot of power for the pump. Maybe they can offset it with some other method of pumping water? Water wheel on a river or something?

Would it help until you get it fixed correctly to attach something to both sides of the drop where it's falling off so it would hang on the other piece and not fall on the ground until you come up with better solution

Need to mount a camera and see what’s causing them to break
@thelunatick1993

Is it the same drops that are breaking off? May be Rain could a tracker feature. AirTag like device on the drop. And if it breaks off could record where it last located. Ease finding them. Rain system would detect when it lost contact. Pin in the field last known location. Send an alert. Though not an alert for 3 am.

It is the same 2 so far. I think they have slightly restricted movement to keep them away from the tire but it's causing them to break.

I have noticed when the rain make a turn on a new pass it takes a few minutes for the water to start. Can that be adjusted to start sooner to cover more of the row, thanks

It dosent water the "backbone" as it's turning/covering the field so it dosent create mud that it has to drive through. As it is returning ro the home point it turns all drops on and runs half speed to water everything that wasn't done on the way out.

@@BorderViewFarms I was thinking that may be the case but wasn't sure. I think the 360 rain is an awesome irrigation option for farmers. The possibilities are endless when you think of all the things you can do with such fertilizer applications and so much more. Love your videos.

to bad you dont have a neighbor with a hog barn , then if solid in seperated out the water could be used and the nitrogen in water could save alot in side cost..

Worst solution is Galvanized pipe or steel pipe. Weight would compound complexity of the traveler. Corrosion will be an issue with your products. Frequency is concerning. But the break is affecting a low dollar part. Easily replaceable and easily repairable. Is a quick fix. Only negatives are 1. Leaves getting wet 2. Potential erosion when water drops from 6 feet. Depending upon soil conditions.
