I get a lot of questions from subscribers about the RB1672 rear blade and my LX2980 front mount blower. So I purposely waited 11 days and 24" of snow later, to attempt to demonstrate the part each implement plays in maintaining the snow in the winter time. In this Part 1 of 2, I am only going to blow the snow from the driveway using my LX2980 front mount blower. In the next Part 2 video, I will use only the rear blade on my Kubota LX2610 compact tractor to see how much more snow is still sitting in the base. My Aquiline Talon rear tire chains once again perform as I ascend the steep hill on the driveway. Hope you will join me. Cheers!

Only had my Kubota snowblower out once in Northern Michigan on my 1/2 mile driveway. The 10 inch wet heavy snow on the ground now is melting and looks like I’m gonna leave it in place and since by the end of next week it’s going to be mostly melted. Supposed to be cold on Monday so I will get my cross country skis out for one of my last ski. The Birkie race went on but at reduced numbers. Next year. Thanks for your tips and demo.

I swear GP, you have more fun with that darned snowblower than a kid with a new bike :-)! You need to get a drone to take overhead shots while you are snowplowing to give the viewer and different perspective maybe. I don't think LandPride makes little orange drones though, but if they did, I know you would get one! :-). Take care and stay warm my friend!

GP, another great video! In regards to your hydraulics. Because your transmission and hydraulics are tied together you'll almost always hear and feel the draw, especially on a tractor of that size. When moving and asking the hydraulics to do a function (at the same time) you'll notice a strain. When the tractor is stopped you'll notice that both front and rear do not create a strain, instead only one will work at a time (at least on my unit). Try it, try raising the blower and your 3-point at the same time (while machine is not moving). One usually waits until the other is finished. Enjoy the day!! Spring is in the air, time for the loader soon.

That snowblower is pretty impressive. It pumps out a lot of snow given the relatively small HP it requires to do so. Remember, those large tractors for snow removal are in the range of 50-100hp! Moreover, knowing you had the truck and ATV ride the trails in the previous days, this is amazing you were able to pick up most of it. It does not seem like you left much behind. The blade will pick more, that is for sure. Thanks!

Interesting observation with the blower riding over hard pack due to the shoes on the side. I just purchased a blower for my Massey Ferguson and the shoes are L brackets mounted to the back of the blower. I'd thought about custom fitting some shoes to the side to keep it from digging into my gravel sections, but now I think I'll skip them! With the shoes on the back I can use down pressure to angle the front of the blower down and have actually dug down through drifts and piles when it starts to ride up. I even made some mini moguls playing with it in the yard the day after I got it and realized I could angle it up and down to contour the snow.

@piercedtiger988
@piercedtiger988 3 жыл бұрын
@@GPOutdoors You're welcome! The moguls were mostly unintentional! haha I just realized I could push the blower down once it started riding up over the really hard stuff. It would lift the front and articulate in the middle enough that the blower would point down. Since the cutting edge is in front of the shoes it would start cutting through the berm it had just floated over. Discovered this mostly due to our back yard being very uneven so we stopped using float mode and manually adjust while cutting a dog path. It would start to go up and leave more snow under the tires, so then we'd have to push it down to dig back down to ground. It was quite apparent standing off to the side while my wife tried it out for the first time. I could see a very shallow /\ between the front of the blower and the tractor when she'd accidentally push it down too far. Also noticeable when parked and it lifts the front wheels off the ground.

@gp outdoors I was talking to a hydraulics 'expert'. He claims it brings down the tractor because of the type of hydraulic it uses. Something about closed loop vs open loop. As he explained it's to me, all of the hydraulic fluid goes through that little actuator. It can't go anywhere else but there. As the fittings and actuator itself aren't very big, they don't allow for much flow. So this brings down the engine because it is attempting out 7-15gpm of hydraulic fluid through something that can only take 3-6. Basically, it's like dead shifting your hydraulic pump without a flow relief valve. This forces the system to use your pressure relief valve. This forces your hydraulic flow to come almost to a stop, before your pressure relief valve opens allowing for a bypass. Most pressure relief valves are designed to keep flow low, and pressure high. This puts a huge load on your hydraulic pump, and your engine. I asked if they did it to keep cost down. He told me that is only half true. If they used a different system, the chute controls would be much slower. I don't have a system to verify with. This does seem like a good explanation to me. It also explains why much bigger tractors also suffer from this issue. I'm my opinion, they get dragged down even harder. If this is true, I wonder what the long term effects are on the hydraulic system. I doubt it's too big an issue. These systems are basically unchanged in 40 plus years of service. Anyone else have better information?

You probably won't get this message, but the dip hydraulics when you rotate the stute, is due too much flow taken away from the drive while under load. I've kind of noticed that the shute turns rather rapidly, maybe a flow restrictor on the shute line(s), might help. 🤔

I got a question for you. I have a 54” rear blower. When using the blower if you were to have the discharge chute pointed to the side that flows more so with the direction of the impeller VS having it the other direction would the blower get rid of the snow a bit faster ( less friction on the chute) allowing faster unloading of the impeller snow. I have thought about this for a long time... and still thinking about it lol. 👍

GP, you really have some beautiful snow this time of year. Clear sky and sun sure helps I guess too. Re - the hydraulic chute controls. I have been meaning to bring up the drop in rpm when those controls are called upon, and I think it is overkill on Kubota's design to have hydraulic controls for those functions. It should be a small hydraulic pull on the engine to operate those, so interested to hear what the dealer has to say about it. If I were to design my own on a manually controlled blower I would try to get by with the small electric units designed for the same type of work. Have a nice weekend at the cottage!

Something magical about watching the arc of the snow into the sun. We here in Southern Maine are into mud season, the one time of the year we hate. Would you consider doing a demo on how to use the hydro stick control for newbies? I just bought an LX2610 and am new to doing anything but mowing with tractors . I'm managing snow blowing with instructions from the manual and the dealer, but I get the chute to the right with difficulty and don't know if I truly have the blower in float. Views of what you are doing with the controls would be wonderful. I'll be attaching a loader when the snow stops. The rest of the tractor operation has been easy to learn, but that stick requires some finesse if you've never used front implements before. The diagrams in the manual are hard to translate to the actual movement of the stick. Up and down, easy. Finding the detent and left and right, not so much. I'm sure it's like learning to drive a stick shift car, you acquire a feel for it that is hard to explain. You seem like you might be able to explain.
@GPOutdoors
@GPOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Good morning Anne! Congrats on the new tractor. I am not an expert as you know, but will certainly try to get that into a future video when it snows. I understand exactly what you mean - I was very confused and found it difficult to learn myself when I first got the tractor. In the meantime , I hope this helps - When you push forward on the stick and the blower is lowering to the ground, push it firmly further forward until you feel a "click" - you will know you are in float because the stick will stay there and when you drive forward you will see the blower moving up an down over the bumps in your driveway freely and if you pull back on the stick to lift the blower off the ground, you will feel the click again. Turning the chute to the right. LOL. Me too! I couldn't figure out when I first got it why I could turn the shoot to the right. It's because the Kubota has a 'detent' when you push the stick to the right too. In order to turn the chute right , when you push the stick to the right, then push a little harder until you feel the "click" again and then the chute will spin. I know it seems odd because when you turn it left, you just pull the joystick left and it turns, but in order to turn it to the right , you have to give the joystick that extra push to the right to feel the click. Hope that helps - will try to get it in soon for you. Thanks for watching and all the best Anne!
@anneswan8879

@@GPOutdoors Thank you so much! I was afraid I'd break the stick by pushing past the detent, but yesterday I did push it to the right beyond the detent and voila! the chute swung around! This morning I got it into float. I was taken aback that I was slightly lifting the front of the tractor before it moved past the detent to float and dropped back down. I quickly blew the old, wet, crusty snow off our back lane and it worked like a champ. Thanks again! In a couple weeks, I'll move on to learning to remove the blower and attach the loader, which will bring me back to learning the tricks of that stick.

Gord, you mentioned the chute rotator "drawing down on engine power",... now I don't have this issue at all, but my blower's chute is 'fed' with number 4 ( 1/4 i.d. ) hydraulic hoses, and because of this the chute turns much slower and ( for me ) tit's much easier to control. With the smaller diameter hose the hydraulic pump on the tractor has very little fluid to move as compared to a larger diameter hose. So there is less demand on the hydraulic system to deliver the given amount of GPM to turn the chute. The chute deflector on mine is operated by an electric actuator ( Princess Auto ) and that too works a dream. Just a thought for you on the topic.

I’m running a Kubota L4060 and love it. Front blower and heated cab. We get similar snow in Penetanguishene. Question; what RPM would be best for blowing. I’ve tried varying it but don’t want to push the engine too hard. Any suggestions?

So how do you like the turbo? Do you think that it really helps out like in heavy snow or that large hill? What about the 4-cylinder engine, because the JD 2038R only has a 3-cyl which probably doesn't give as much torque as the 4-cyl.
@ccga3359
@ccga3359 3 жыл бұрын
Yes engine rpm's will drop when using hydraulics as the load on hydraulic pump is stealing some of the available power. It's the same on your car when you turn on your air conditioning, rear window defogger and the like. Every accessory you use is adding load to the engine thus requiring more fuel usage to compensate. Perfectly normal for this to happen.

I think the “recirculate” button in vehicles is one of the most misunderstood controls. I’ve seen people driving around with totally fogged up windows and shake my head that they probably are recirculating the air. It does help warm up a vehicle faster because the heater uses the preheated air within the vehicle, but if there is excess moisture, it will condense on the cold glass. Regarding the front blower, could you remove the skid shoes once you have that frozen base to let it scrape down more? I realize you can’t do that without a hard frost in the ground but given the conditions now, it would seem possible. My old rear blower doesn’t have any skid shoes at all. Since it’s rear mounted, I can of course change the angle of attack with the top link (although with my hilly driveway I still have to lift it at times), but once I have a frozen base, I can scrape right down to icy hard pack and very little builds up thereafter. Just a thought! Cheers!

😂 I've been battling condensation like crazy this winter, but my truck's heat is toast. Cold toast 🧊 Regular circulation, recirculation, cold air defrost, space heater in an inverter, nothing works except putting down the windows, and even that doesn't last when I roll them back up ( not to mention, it defeats the purpose of a space heater 😂 ). I drive around with a squeegee.

Dave, you are correct, the recirc should only be used in summer to take a load off the a/c condenser from having to cool and dehumidify the outside air continually. And it is frustrating to see people driving around with the recirc on in winter - I wonder how many end up in accidents due to their poor visibility. I was driving somewhere with a friend and he didn't realize the use of the system, and it was such a revelation to him when he realized why the windows were all fogged up and how easy it was to fix.
@profdave2861

@@dhenschel4 Yes, good point, it helps immensely in with the AC, but it can also help warm the car up faster in cold weather, as long as there’s not a lot of moisture in the air (like when you get in the vehicle with a wet or snowy coat!). I didn’t mention it in the first post but about 15 years ago my older sister (in her late 50’s at the time) bought herself a new car (a Saturn). I asked her a few months after she bought it how she liked the new car, and she complained about it fogging up especially in damp or cold weather. I asked if she had turned off the recirculation.. The answer was “ what recirculation?” She was embarrassed but thanked me profusely for curing the only frustration she had with that car! (And thankfully she won’t read this!!!)

@@profdave2861 This sounds like one of those 'did you read the manual?" moments - I don't remember reading about this, but it has to be in there... I hope cars are smart enough today to not let this happen, but I think that means running the a/c in the winter.
@profdave2861
@profdave2861 3 жыл бұрын
@@dhenschel4 I think the “recirculate” topic is very poorly covered in most vehicle owner’s manuals. As a side note, when you put your vehicle system on “defrost”, the AC compressor comes on to dry the air - even when the heat is on!

GP, I'm curious about the skids on the sides of your snowblower. Are those stock Kubota skids? I have a BX 2750 blower on my tractor and it has very small skids that are inboard of the sides. Mine don't work well at all and I'm looking for a better solution. There's a lot of crushed rock on my road and driveway and I just can't seem to stop pulling the rocks in and breaking shear pins. There's a company out there that makes heavy duty skids called Armor skids that look something like yours.

Very nice snow machine and that's coming from a John Deere owner. Curious as to how much fuel it took to clear your road and the tractor hours incurred. With snow that deep, maybe angle your blade more so it doesn't pull snow back onto the road from the high edge left by the blower. Also noticed what I presume was a safety kit (red bag with white cross behind your left arm). Anything unique you carry in the kit? Thanks for another nice video. Steve from Minnesota

I have the B2650-HSDC-TLB, along with several attachments. One being the 63" two stage snowblower with hydraulic rotator and chute control via the 3rd function, which is still unused in the shed. I've been using the FEL with a 72" hydraulic plow blade. I watched as you ordered those rear chains but here would definitely be overkill. I take my cross chains off & on as needed and most of the time they are not needed. They are cross link Peerless Road Service chains and with R4 tires it is quite the jostling ride. I am looking for your style chain but without the studs.... thinking they would give a smoother ride, especially on blacktop...... any suggestions?

Good day Earl. Thanks for sharing your info with me. The Aquiline tire chains I bought were from tirechainsrequired dot com, down in the USA. "Aquiline" chains have no studs or hooks. When you see a product that they sell called Aquiline "Talon" chains, the "talon" means they are studded. I have never tried regular cross link chains but on a flat paved or hard surface, these chains are still bumpy (way less bumpy than the old V-Hook H pattern chains I had last year, but still bumpy). Great in snow and ice and mud in the forest, but still not smooth at all when riding on a hard flat surface. I hope that helps a bit. Good luck to you and thanks for the comment today!

at the end of your driveway once you break thru, why don't attack the snow plow drift from the road way. That way your won't blow your snow out on the road which could be trouble passing vehicles. You just have to which for any vehicles coming down the roadway.
@GPOutdoors
@GPOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I definitely should not be throwing snow into the roadway. But I have a blind corner at the west side and a hill on the east and for some reason, many folks drive awfully fast through this side road so I try not to spend too much time in the roadway. I put all my lights on but folks tend to treat it like a speedway but it is a good idea, for sure Rick. The little bit that got into the road before I spun the chute, I cleaned up afterwards. I think up here, it is against the law to throw snow back into the road. Take care!

Not that it makes any difference, but I have to ask: Why do you snow blow down the "wrong" side of the driveway? I've seen other KZfaqrs do the same thing. When I plow my 800' driveway I RARELY do it "against traffic". Again, not that it matters, you can do it any way you want, I'm just curious. :)

Good day DA. LOL. Honest answer - I change sides based on what camera angles I think might be better for you folks. LOL. I get in and out of that cab so often to move the cameras around and I try to adjust based on where the sun is, and what view might be nicer. So, if you were able to see me all the way through the driveway you would see all the spots where I switched sides. :)) So, coming back, I have to jump from one side to another through to the end.
