As a train driver, getting up at 3 AM is totally normal to me. I have to be at the train yard by 6 AM. That's why a good morning routine is very important. Funny enough, i always motivate myself by thinking to myself: "If you're late to work, hundreds of other people will probably be as well."

I would like to say as a final year medical student myself that waking up at 3am is not necessary for success in medical school. I applaud Zeliha for her dedication in her work and studies (for she is a much more exceptional and clever student than me); she also states in the video why she chooses to wake up at 3am, but for the assurance of those who may see this and think this is normal for medical students and a representative snapshot , it is not. Work adequately at your own pace and prioritise well-being , and everything will work itself out.

@@Doctortallmak why would you possibly need to wake up at 2am during pre med. I went to sleep at 2am during my premed years lol. At that point you're just inconveniencing yourself because you'll be awake when everything else is asleep and asleep when everyone else is awake, if you can set yourself good study habits you can still maintain a perfectly normal sleep schedule, even in med school itself.

I agree. I get 8 hrs of sleep, usually sleep from 1-9am and I'm doing very well in medical school. You harm yourself more by trying to follow a schedule that is not best for you. And you definitely harm yourself more by trying to cut hours of sleep and study for those few extra hrs.

Thank you for explaining to your audience about how staying up late is no better than getting up early, and vice-versa. You’re the first person I’ve ever heard mention this. So many influencers preach how getting up early will make you so successful, and often judge those who stay up. This is a dilemma that I’ve had with myself for years. You’re the first person I’ve ever seen mention this, and advise their audience to follow their circadian rhythm. Thank you!!

I'm all for working when you feel the best and most productive but you also have to understand that we, as humans, are not nocturnal animals. We need the sun's light to function properly. Waking up early gives you the chance of starting your day with the Sun at a lower angle in the sky which affects a lot of things in your body like your adenosine/melatonin/cortisol cycles. These cycles, in turn signal your body to regulate it's different functions like blood pressure, natural sleep, metabolism and wakefulness etc. There's nothing wrong with staying up a little late to work but when it get's extreme, it's just unnatural for us. It's always better to get up early in the morning (before ~8AM) and sleep at a decent time. Staying up till 3AM every night will probably not affect you when you're young but it'll definitely mess with your body as you get older.
@tevear54
@tevear54 Жыл бұрын
@@DrPubz Speak for yourself. I live up north and you don't have constant day night cycle here and instead it varies quite massively depending on time of the year. It's soon darkest time of the year and then we have under 4h of day light. If i went up 200 km the sun wouldn't rise at all. On the other hand in the summer you have constant light. Even when the sun sets it doesn't really get dark at all for a period of about a month. While portion of the year you would get that there's quite a good chunk when it doesn't apply. I have noticed my sleeping cycle is not tied to sun as that would be rather silly here.

This only film footage's touched my heart to know that there are young people like you who take the time to get up very early in the morning to study and to train to know how to take care of the vulnerable, the needy and those who may be broken hearted for it's not easy for what you students are doing. I am immensely proud to see young people like that, who are a new generation of people that will make a big difference in the lives of many and in many years to come, not just because of the shortage of staff but also that they're very important people and I hope that they stick to it for many years to come. There's a place for everyone in this world for everyone's just as important. These are our heroes who make us proud and so give yourselves credit for it.

Even though I always wake up extra early, hearing how most of my peers pull all-nighters while I struggle to do so makes me feel so guilty. This video just stated what I needed to hear, and I appreciate you giving that reassurance in the end that doing what works for you individually is what really matters because in the end, you want the routine that is sustainable because the academic journey is a marathon not a sprint. I had a rule at uni where i wouldn't work after dinner unless I had to, and if I had to it was usually just a reading I might've forgotten to do or some seminar prep. It was a good routine and really helped me get in some chill time in the evenings before going to sleep which then helped me wake up early and take advantage of my early morning productive time

Same here. I'm way more productive in the morning and I have no problem waking up early-ish. I'd ideally get everything study related done until 2 or 3 pm. I noticed how stressed I became when I woke up early and didn't work on anything until noon. Now I have everything that's stressing me out of the way after lunch or afternoon and can enjoy the rest of my day without worrying about assignments and studying.

i am in informatics (Bio-inf) similar to comp sci but most people don't realize how tough comp sci or informatics or anything that has to do with coding really is. Imagine working on a code and being stuck on it for 10 days straight with limited help from professors and classmates, and your best friend (Stackover flow) is also not helping and you sleep at 3 am just trying to figure out how to solve a simple code, then the day you give up and just zoom through you find that 1 small syntax error that gave you nightmares and sleepless nights. So to that douche who said "you are snowflakes," fuck off cause you probably have zero idea how tough this field is. BTW I am a conservative and I empathize with any student that has to deal with this BS or just college.

Back in my med school years, I often slept late (cause I study better at night when everybody's asleep) and I would wake up later in the day around 10-11am. It worked out for me. I've also tried waking up very early, like 2am xD just to study back in high school, but I couldn't do that now. Everybody is different and don't feel demotivated if you can't be 'that girl' that wakes up early and be super productive sometimes. YOU need to work out a schedule best for YOURSELF. Your routine is unique to you. I wish everybody the best in finding that sweet balance of sleeping/studying/waking up without compromising your wellbeing.

I love that you mentioned waking up early is no better or worse than staying up late and it's about our circadian rhythm. I'm definitely a night owl kind of person and always have been. (Actually, my circadian rhythm thinks I'm in Australia when I'm in the US, so my routine is really weird, but I still get 7-9 hours of sleep.) I wouldn't worry about not being social. To be honest, a lot of what people consider "being social" is just partying late at night and drinking. It'd just get in the way of your goals, and waking up with hangovers is no fun anyway. You can definitely still be social during hours that work for you without feeling like you're being "anti-social."

Hey Zeliha! About the heating, if you’re looking to save money I would definitely look at electric heaters. I have one from Argos, it was about £20 and it’s super effective (heats up the room as soon as you turn it on!!) and much cheaper than turning on the heating. It also saves being so cold - definitely worth the money! Xxx

Hi Zeliha. I absolutely love your videos and find them very inspiring! My favourite thing I’ve taken away from your videos is your study tip of voice recording. I’ve never heard of it before and have started doing it and love it!! I usually study a lot via podcasts so this is so perfect for me. I was wondering if you could make a more in-depth video on how you make your voice recording notes? Like do you have folders, how much detail, when do you start a new recording. Would love more info :D

I relate so much to you talking about how you can't study late or pull all-nighters! While I never have woken as early as 3 to study, I very much spent a lot of highschool waking up at 5:30 so I could study to get into medicine. I've actually become a lot lazier since getting into med HAHA. I'm in my third year now and excited for the regularity and routine placement will bring back to my life. As someone with ADHD, it's hard to function without it but I also suck so bad at making it for myself.

I also have ADHD. I work hard every day. If you add diligence to your personality, you will enjoy working after a while. When you enjoy working, you become HYPERFOCUS. Then you will be truly successful. People like Steve Jobs, Alexander Graham Bell, Beethoven, Salvador Dali, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, and David Neeleman have ADHD. Realize your weakness and turn it into strength

Hey! I’m planning on going into PA school (2 years instead of 4 and no specialties) in the US once I finish my bachelors degree. Watching your video made me so excited and feel capable cause I often get a lot of impostor syndrome as well as some seasonal depression, so I doubt my ability to do it. I know posting in med school surely isn’t easy so I hope you continue it if you can!!

Doesn't matter what time you wake up, but it does matter if you do it consistently every day. And it's also important to get 7-9 hours of sleep. As you'll learn if you rotate with a sleep specialist, the most important part of good sleep is getting up at the same time every day. A lot of 20 something medical students have horrible sleep patterns (I certainly did in medical school) and, at that age, you can get away with it without realizing the harm you're doing to your body and brain. But, as you get older, you'll have to start paying attention to these things.

The reason why I prefer waking up earlier is that I feel much tired after school and can't be productive more than 30 mins. So I decided to go to bed earlier and wake up at 1 or 2 am. I can do my sunnah prayer as well waking up at this hour. Thanks for sharing this

Hi there! I just want to say thank you for making this video. Although I am not a medical student, and the work that you do is very different from mine, this video has inspired me to get up and do what I need to do,. I am currently trying to get diagnosed for adhd and on the path of helping myself be more functional. This video made me want to get up on time and start my day. I simply admire that you still get things done even tho it is hard. It seems so rewarding to do all the things you need to do. I want to do the same. It's not going to be perfect, but I will do my best. Thank you.
