Sounds like a solid plan! My favorite part of the 3D Chameleon is the versatility of how you install it as there's really no right or wrong way to do so!

​@@Houstons3DPrints Just got mine today! One question for you though: I am having issues getting it to feed into the extruder while locked. I used a spare length of PTFE from the kit like you suggest but I just get grinding noise when it hits the extruder gears and it never makes it past them on it's own. Do I need to modify the code somehow so the extruder starts going once the filament arrives?

@@TGMisKillingTheMiddleClass the stock gcode should work just fine. It could be a few things, The tensioners inside the chameleon may need to be changed for more grip. Depending on the length of the Bowden tubes you may need to adjust the timing a bit to get it to feed properly. When it goes to change filament can you see that it's feeding all the way to the extruder? Mine occasionally makes the clicking sound which I think is just the downside of how this system works.

@@Houstons3DPrints it feeds all the way to the extruder but sometimes doesn't grab the filament. When this happens the chameleon extruder tries to push it and grinds a bit. Then when it is trying to unload that filament there is a chewed up portion of filament that prevents the chameleon from gripping it. Making it fail to switch to the next color Would the stronger tensioners help with this? Or would it just chew up the filament more? Out of curiosity what is your "extruder to hotend" distance you used for the GCode generator?

Thanks! I plan to do a video soon just been a bit busy lately so haven't had much time. As far as going back to stock, one easy way is to keep two separate lengths of ptfe tubing. Then you can run a single spool side mounted and then leave the chameleon on the back without having to modify/remove anything. That way if you end up using the chameleon again it's already installed!

@@Houstons3DPrints yeah I like that idea, just the gcode changes in the slicer it think will be better to use a separate "printer" so it would be easy to switch too. Looking forward to your new videos. Ooh and would love the stl for that great short video you did!

You can always just use the center pass through and feed filament directly through the Y adapter. Look in the very top of the Y adapter... you can feed filament straight down through it to the stock extruder and skip everything.

Extruder should be in the locked position when using the chameleon. When feeding into the extruder from the chameleon you need to verify the extruder is running before the filament gets to the gears. That will help prevent the clicking you're hearing and will feed smoothly through the extruder. If the chameleon itself is grinding the filament down you may have to verify that the drive gears are properly aligned with the filament otherwise it may grind on certain parts when trying to feed it through.

As far as I'm aware they should all work. I have the updated version now using the Mk4 and the screws mount fine with mine.

Hey thanks for the reply. The issue was me I am Stupid. I didn’t look in the baggie or read the manual that says that there are longer screws included to Solve this problem. One other question I added ptfe tubes on both sides but for some reason doing this seems to cause a miss alignment so the filament doesn’t pass from one side to the other. Do you have any solutions for this ?

@@kman2k12 make sure when reinstalling everything that the ports are lined up together along with having a clear pathway with the gears that drive the filament through. I actually did the same and it may seem a tad harder to get the filament through but I typically manually press the switch to get the chameleon to feed the filament through. If that isn't the case taking a drill bit and cleaning out the port very lightly may help seat the printed parts better with the additional ptfe tubes. Hope that helps!
