Hello - I can confirm that the custom GRBL build that is supposed to support a servo on pin11 doesn't seem to be working (and it also has an error in the library code that prevents the compilation from the Arduino IDE ; but even with that line commented out, it doest seem to drive the servo). The one with the 3 steppers is working well, and the wiring diagram linked in the description is correct.

"Works" of this plotter looks very nice! Although a pro-artist will notice some machine "features" in drawing anyway. But I could make holiday presents to all my local friends with this machine :) Also it's a great idea about how to make something else to make any home more festive and natural looking in the same time!

Congrats man. Cute design. I took some time over the weekend and build it. I used Arduino Uno following ur diagram and after some time i manage to make it work by NOT inverting X axis in UGS and inverting Z axis. It works like a charm. I see some people had this issues too. I also made new pen holder since urs was limited to one size. Let us know when v2 will be available :)

@@claudens2321 hey. Hack was exactly as i wrote it. I did not invert X axis in UGS but i inverted Z axis. This worked for me using Arduino Uno. Hope you will make it work.

@@claudens2321 Not the firmware. Universal Gcode Sender -> Setup Wizzard and there i checked “Reverese direction” for Z axis instead of X like it’s on the video. Just follow video steps and you will get to there.

I just received the parts ;-) I got a question about the power: - Why don't you use the expansion board power ? - And I see a jumper on the expanasion board in your video that I don't see in your schematics could you please specify how do you manage the power ? I mean, if you don't use the power plug from the expansion board, where do you power on the expansion board ? Thank you !

I used the expansion board Power to Power the Arduino and I powered separately the motor drivers Because they require too much power to be connected to the 5volt of the arduino (I tried and it didn't work)

Great tutorial! Thank you but the JSCUT doesn't work - TAKES FOR EVER EVEN WITH EASY DRAWINGS or just freeze. Is there another program to create the Gcodes?

Question, I followed your wiring diagram and the X and Y work as expected, however I do not have Z control at all. When I swap the Z stepper board with X or Y ; I am able to control that stepper motor. Is there by any chance different pins on the arduino uno that need to be used?

If you change the z board with the x for example, and you can control the motor, it means that the z control board is broken

@@DAZprojects ??, I pulled the z board and stepper motor and placed those wires in the X spot on the UNO and I can control the motor, how does that mean it is broken? Please educate me.

Great build! How did you ensure smooth sliding of the part in the rail? Did you sand the parts after printing? Or any other finishing? Did you provision for clearance in the model? Thanks for sharing!

Inkscape has a built in G-Code Extension, you can generate G-Code directly within the software.

@@nacho1119 so i was searching my desktop but unfortunately i think i kept the file some where else or deleted it well if you see the github description it said clearly about the connections well it didnt work well and was snappy and i dont have a 3d printer so i ordered that too so my opinion will be to look for another one or just move to another project,.... if you are strong that you are gonna do it then i may help you but i consider not to make it as the creater has not supported it till now well anyhow its just my opinion and the desicion is yours

nice video man . great job , i have made the 3d printed version of the same which uses the same stepper motor on the pen aswell. im facing issues of the plotter not drawing as it should all the shapes are not smooth and most of curves getting flat line. any idea what could cause that - im using JSCUT and sometimes the extension in inkscape. still not getting smooth lines all wired flat and not organized lines. the motors im using are 28BYJ-48 5V with their drivers and an Arduino Nano . been 2 weeks working on it to fix the problem , still not getting lucky :( hope you can assist me

Thats only if they are used as bi-polar motors. Here they are used as uni-polar so they do not need the modification.

In the GCS calibration, why do you move the origin (upper left corner) to the center of the image? Is there no other way to start from the usual origin?

Update: waiting on the steppers right now and did some research into PCB milling, it might be impossible or just make very crude PCB's but I still want to try 😉

does it works with mac os or win 11? I can not make the servo move, jsut 0.5 mm. SAme for software, inkscape is not working well on mac M1 and UGS not well on win 11.

You can use what you want as long as you connect the electronics to the same pins
