The real value of art is in the design. Craftsmanship by hand is impressive and the skill shown by the masters is truly awe-inspiring. But not everyone has the hand or eye of a master craftsman/sculptor, and not everyone is keen to spend their lives banging on rocks with chisels. Tech like this makes the creative process more available to more people, and the time saving means that the people who do use it can make more. The value in creativity is what it communicates, the tools are secondary. People that want to go around crying about the death of craftsmanship can honestly shove it. The more people who can get creative ideas into the world, the better. History will leave everyone else behind.

This is amazing. In roughly a days worth of work you recreated something that would have taken forever to carve. I love to know how things were done originally. I'm big into cheese making and home brewing. I might have made a good Amish guy if it were not for my love of tech and alcohol. But If I had one of these gadgets in my garage, I'd never come out again.

You are both right! 1. The CAM system (a piece of software on a PC) has a heavy job calculating the tool path. Millions of calculations are made: Tool path position, Collision check, Data reduction, Virtual Milling and Rest Milling and finally Post processing. 2. The CAM produces a G-code to drive the CNC machine. There is no really intelligence in a CNC machine, it's like a printer. G-code is a standard machine "language" Greetings (the guy behind the software) Claus Dybdal

Hello everyone. I have read so many comments on this...some are really strange...really. You need to understand what this machine and the scanner are designed for. This is a really fantastic 5 axis CNC machines designed to work natural stone. The scanner is used to digitize an object any object of almost any size.

its nice sculpture ordinary and accurate, but is not overly detailed and finished and that is what make sculpture art piece and that is the only hand of the true artist can achieve only a man of blood and flesh

Inverse(Reverse) kinematics refers to the use of the kinematics equations of a robot to determine the joint parameters that provide a desired position of the end-effector. Specification of the movement of a robot so that its end-effector achieves a desired task is known as motion planning. Inverse kinematics transforms the motion plan into joint actuator trajectories for the robot. this machine is a non Cartesian machine and moves according to these calculations.

All the process of milling was Marvellous but about the scanning you could use laser lines or white light scanning and do the scanning with very high density of point cloud in few minutes, I tried it and it works very well, but about your milling this machine should worth a fortune using a heavy robotic arm needs to use reverse Kinematics to calculates the points and it forces your processing system to handle tons of calculations each millisecond and handling such a heavy arm is an art, thanks

Agreed on the art part, but not everyone has the time or ability to do that. Surely you must see some beauty in the process? Couldn't it be said that the ability to get a computer and a bunch of machinery to recreate such things would be an art-form unto itself? Imagine if some genius could get the scan time down. A living human could be scanned and a bust made in less than a day. Sure it would be great to be able to carve it by hand, but I find this absolutely amazing.

Every tool shape has it's own calculation that take in account the shape and size of the tool and the scan. Especially 3D Scans are heavy to calculate, so we use all cores of the PC in our Copy CAD/CAM for stone. The choice of tool shape and size depends on the kind of material you want to work in. There is not just one kind of marble. You must know your material well, the machine and the tools available. It's far from automatic, it requires a lot of know-how.

We use the scanner for complex shapes and most of all for restoration. This video is just a simple demonstration, I am not using this machine for making a bust or a statue just like any other proffesional in our natural stone industry. Any machine and every single peice of equipment is working good only if it is in the right hands.

G Code is not really a programming language, more of a standardized communication language. It is a list of movement instructions and tool instructions that tell machines how fast to run various motors, what positions to move to, etc. It is generally produced as machine output from other programs, rather than being hand-coded.
