Mmm, my average budget on living in Pattaya with a full time Thai girlfriend for the last 4 years is around $1.600 a month. We both don’t drink or go to bars, that makes a big difference! We spend our time playing badminton, jogging, swimming, gym and travelling. Healthy body healthy life! Having a Thai women who loves the temple and not the bar prolongs your live and happiness here for me! 😊

3k usd is more than double the median pension in Europe, just putting things into perspective. 3k usd is actually what most people make working average jobs here in Norway. Conclusion - don't tip like U.S folks and u will be fine on half.

What Ace estimates for alcohol and entertainment is excessive, for me. I don't need to bar hop or drink alcohol and I don't do any of the items that he lists under "entertainment". I think I could easily live there for under $2000 per month.

After taxes taken out of my monthly retirement check I'm left with just under 300k php. I'm living fairly comfortably but my biggest expense is that I eat western food pretty much daily. I cant get into Filipino food more than a few times a month

Got to try all the popular dishes that aren’t on the somewhat extreme side. A lot are very similar to old Mexican/spanish style foods. Also.you can make Mexican style dishes easily with the available ingredients there.

its crazy how much some of you guys from the US seem to have in pensions. thats like 5k USD net i dont even know one single person (whos not self employed or have an own well running business) earning that amount fulltime as employee. not even judges or most highly specialzed doctors (if they not have their own busniess) earn that kind of net salary here in germany. with 4k USD or 3,7k Euros net income you are in the top 10 percent with 4,9k USD or 4,5k Euros net income you are in the top 5 percent with 7,8k USD or 7,2k Euros net income you are in the top 1 percent

@cuibono7774 I worked 27 years as an IT Manager for a federal agency. They base your pension on your highest three consecutive year average times your years of service. Not included in your pension is the matching thrift savings plan that is a tremendous investment. Just fortunate that I went that route versus private sector many years ago.

@@MJC_2112 thanks for the explaintation and propz to you. with that amount you probably could retire almost everywhere in the world comfortly on far above average standard. just for comparsion again, the average retirement payment in germany last year was like 1054 euro net, which is like 1145 USD net, and really most ppl here live on amounts like that or some even lower when they are old, some may have additional so called company pensions but most ppl have less then 1500 total combined net. (only officials working for the goverment may have a slighty higher pension like 2k). wish you a nice weekend.

My beer/cigarette bill is around PP14,000 pcm. My wife and I own our properties, both commercial and residential. My biggest expense is on the kids' education, but we bring in around PP80-100,000 pcm, so we are cool. We get around another USD2000 pa through investments, and that gives us a holiday.

The kids' education is a priority. It will help them make decent lives for themselves. My step-daughter and niece are at university, studying practical subjects, Architecture and Pharmacy. Our son is also receiving a decent education, although he's still in primary. I was educated in the UK when tuition was free. All I had to do was support myself, which I did by working nights and holidays in a factory. Education allowed me to travel the world, have a successful business and retire early with property, an income and savings. That is why I push the kids to make the most of their studies.

Thanks ACE - To put it into perspective, working within your budget and being married to a Filipina, having our own house and living on a free Balikbayan annual visa (but need to run around the flagpole once a year for a night in Hong Kong/Taiwan/ Bangkok to renew the vise) my expenses would be around $650 without the danger zone. My danger zone, being married, is restricted (although I may barhop once a week with the odd lady drinks, and I only really drink SMB with the odd G&T (local). I will have about 6 bottles of SMB a day socially with friends so approximately Php 40,000 ($695) a month on entertainment. Which is doable on a UK State Pension (which the U.K & Philippines have a joint agreement). My only problem is whereas my medications are free on the NHS in the UK, I have to pay for them in the Philippines (paying to see a doctor would be an added cost, but at least you can see one live instead of a phone call!)

I understand you have to show that you have income. If you’re retired and getting money every month how do you tell them you’re on ssi or ssdi and do they easily accept that as your source of income, is there a special form for that or as long as you got income they approve your visa? Please explain since you’re the professor please aaaand thank you!

Watching Ace's demeanor as he moved his hand around that whiteboard I have concluded Professor Ace speaks from SIGNIFICANT PERSONAL EXPERIENCE on the "pleasures" listed in the (clearly demarcated) "DANGER ZONE" section. Bottom Line: If you want to play in the DANGER ZONE it's gonna cost you a minimum US $2k monthly, not including tips, I assume.
