Today at Speedy's Garage see how to install a lift kit on a 3rd gen 4Runner using Tundra TRD Coils in the front with Bilstein 5100 shocks and OME 906 coils in the rear with 5100 shocks. Before and after measurements shown. Ride is better than stock in that it is not only smoother and more compliant, but the vehicle has a meaner look to boot 😎

thanks so much for making this video! still relevant in 2019. I had the bottle jack pop out twice on me while under load, but with the proper blocks in place and eventually the impact-driver extension, it really was not very violent... just more of a surprise. also helped to generally avoid putting any body parts in the line of fire. anyway, this is a fantastic walk through. I owe you a beer, sir.

Thanks to this video I completed the lift and had no issues. Using the bottle jack upside down was very easy. Just make sure it's in good. Most of my bolts needed the sawzall, but after that it was easy.

Very nice instructional video... Thank you! A couple of notes: The top stem sockets, at least on mine, were a 5mm allen wrench instead of the 3/16" as you mentioned. The top bushings WILL allow shock-stem rub against the chassis mounting hole because Billstein was TOO cheap to provide the correct bushings. The installer can either buy a very short nylon bushing to slip over the shock stem to ride between these Billstein bushings, or re-use the old bushings from the old shock.

Excellent! Your tips and explanations are well thought out! Your video shots give us a front row seat on "how to" do it! Plenty of light to see! Your attention to detail in your remarks about shock model numbers etc. gives you an A+ ! The advice on safety is something I will utilize and take heed! Nice, by far one of the best top videos! I have been working on cars for 50 years, video production for 25 years and your combination of the two is superior! Congratulations! I would like to see a video on a Gen 5 Toyota 4Runner as this is my next project installing a 3" inch OME LIFT! I will take your advice and concepts and apply it to my project! I subscribed to your channel, something I rarely do! Very professional presentation! Kudos!!

This is a great step-by-step on how to do this. I mostly want a better ride quality and maybe 1” max of lift, so I think I’ll do this but compress the front spring more than you did. Not sure how I’m going to do the back, but might use the same springs you did and accept the 2” of lift.

22:00 For anyone else installing coils up front, while you have them compressed and before securing the top mount, you have to get the alignment correct between the top 3 nuts and the end of the bottom of the coil spring. The bottom coil spring end must be facing the outside and point down the long axis of the vehicle. Passenger spring end points directly to the rear, driver side to the front. This will keep the spring from being too close to the upper ball joint mount. (Toyota FSM) Great video.

We just got a 3rd Gen 4runner. With our 1st Gen Tacoma, we now have a matched set. =D You did almost exactly what I plan to do with ours. I want to go with the same tire size, but I want to go up about 2.5" instead. I'm probably going to use the OME 881 springs off my Tacoma over a set of 5100s. I'll be going up to 883s on the Taco and replacing the OME Nitrochargers with a set of 5100s. For the back of the 4r, I'm going to try to go with a set of 5125s. Just put a set of those on the back of the Taco and they ride much better than the old OME Nitrochargers.

Thanks for posting this awesome vid. It was very helpful when I did this lift on my wife's 01. However I thought I'd give everyone a heads up with the rear shocks. If you order the bilstein part number from anywhere but wheelers off-road you will NOT be able to install them on your 4Runner due to the fact that the bushings that attach to the rear axle are the wrong size. Wheelers off-road takes the 5100 shock and presses different bushings in to accommodate the 4Runner. The only reason i know this is because I found a killer deal on the 5100's from a different site and was bummed out when I thought I ordered the wrong shocks. I had the idea to give the folks at wheeler a call and they explained that I did actually have the right parts but they simply put in different bushings in them. They had the proper bushings in stock and shipped them to me. Now it's all good! Just order the rears from wheelers, guys! Thanks speedy for this tutorial. It was well done as are all your vids. Keep me comin!

Hi man, great job on swapping out those suspension parts, but a good idea to loosen or lube rubber parts would be using some silicone spray on those parts, they get off soo much easier, also about the spring compressor.. You always wanna use it while having the strut mounted securely on a vise, if the compressor slips by accident it can kill you or do some serious injuries and never touch the springs while compressed with your hands!. Great work man!.

Great video! , wish I came across it 6 years ago. In that time frame I added 1” spacer to front stock spring & upgraded rear springs to moog eliminating 96 sag with 1.5” spacer & upgraded shocks. Combo provided comfy ride, looked good many compliments received In the Last year I’ve noticed rear sag taking place , nothing major but sits slightly lower then front & it bugs me. Adding 2906 springs minus rear spacers might be the fix UPDATE: Put measuring tape on my 96 limited setup finding odd results. Front 22” & Rear 22.5. 22” up front is very puzzling to me seeing I only added 1” spacer. Maybe new struts had higher ring then stocks , I’m really not freaking sure seeing install took place @ night low light , I was just throwing it together. Anyway , mid grade off brand struts gave me extra 1.5” on top of 1” spacer = 2.5” front lift. Rear spacer upgrade from 1.5 to 2” should provide results I seek. Or 809 coil with 1” spacer with unknown outcome 3” - 3.5...

This is exactly what i'm planning on doing to my 4runner (TRD/906/5100s). So you didn't find it necessary to put in an adjustable panhard bar, extended brake lines, parking brake bracket, or diff drop? Seems like everyone always says you need these, but people are often doing 3"+ of lift. Thanks for the video. This is definitely giving me some confidence in tackling this myself.
