Just goes to show that even a year or more later, good videos are worthwhile. I have an 06 2500 and want to upgrade my speakers. This was VERY useful.

The older I get the more I realize grandpa trucks last longer for a reason. I have owned my 06 since new. It’s a gem. But yes it needs new speakers. And I used to beat on trucks.

Engineer here: regarding the rear speaker bolt pattern, we use asymmetric patterns to poka-yoke the part aka it can only be installed in one orientation. This helps assembly and service.

Literally answered my questions I was looking for these past couple days. Went through groups and forums and I couldn’t get a straight answer. Everyone says 6x9s fit but a lot of people said you had to modify to fit 6x9s. Everyone says 6.5s fit with no mods. That was also a lie lol so thanks for this video bro keep up the good content 💯

FYI to anyone doing this type of upgrade. Aftermarket head units usually only put out 15 to 25rms watts per channel at best. If you want to upgrade speakers but not add an additional amplifier. I recommend going with speakers that are only 50rms tops. Underpowered , say 100rms speakers with no amplifier won't even compare to the sound quality of even Walmart lower powered but fully powered speakers. Match your RMS power as close as possible.

I got the sony 6x9’s from wal mart. Cost about 60 bucks and they sound/fit great

Make another cutting board adapter for the rear doors. I went with the 6x9 - 6.5 adapter for the front door. JBL components in all 4 doors and tweeters in the same door panel location as the f series trucks. Rear tweeters high up on the C pillar

I ran into the same bs when I did my speakers lol. I like the cutting board spacer though!

If you have the Infinity sound system the front door speakers only play bass so if you were putting in a 3 way 6x9 that may be why the back was too big to fit in the door

Interesting 🧐 my Laramie as welll as all the ones I’ve worked on came with the infinity sound system in them and it was pretty decent

My 08 ram 3500 6.7 laramie has the infinity 7 speaker sound system with factory amp and I installed 2 12" scar audio subs And a eclipse double din navigation system cd player Bluetooth to replace the factory Navigation system and with the stock speakers it sounds amazing! I have 280k miles on it now and I just replaced all the highs and mids / front door speakers rear door speakers and the 3 dash tweaters with all Apline S series speakers 🔊 and wow! Bad ass! Sound way better then the infinity stock system! The front door speakers stock only play mid bass and will do the same with the new speakers do to the factory amp but that is normal so if you get a set of component speakers your good to go! The rears are just 6.5 s with tweaters so no problem there plug and play! So now what is all this talk about 7.3? When the truck is a 6.7? Thanks

My 6x9s and 6.5s PRV speakers fit with no problem however the 6x9s needed an amp (infinity 7 speaker systems). 3rd Gen

I upgraded my speakers and realized the factory head unit was weak so I put in a boss 320 watt head unit what a difference also if your speaker isn't working check inside the boot between the door and cab they break often

So what all do I need to install this head unit and I have some kicker speakers will I need anything to install those I am new to the 3rd gen

I love my music wether it's country or country rap I like it to rattle the entire vehicle with the windows down.

what adapter did you use for the rear speakers?

I have a question on tuning for the 7.3. I have put a lot of work into my truck but sometimes the idle quality just doesn't seem right to me. My dad bought the truck new in 2002 and I think the dealership put a chip on it because it's always had more horsepower than a stock one, and my mechanic thinks that's the reason too. Long story short, can a chip effect the idle quality and should I look at getting a new tuner?

what are the rear 6.5 speakers for as in emitting sound, are they for the high range, mid range or bass? also are 3 way or 2 way speakers supposed to be back there?

Crutchfield is not accurate. I originally went with the 6×9 infinity reference based on their suggestion and ran into the same problem. Instead I went with the 6 ½ infinity reference and made an adapter plate out of cutting board from Big Lots and they actually sound good once broken in. I will be putting these in the rear.
