Thank, man. I'm glad I found something positive about the big 4, as most videos are about "accumulated depression" and crying in bathrooms. I'll enter the field at 48 years old with a bachelor's degree, and I work very hard and have plenty of energy, desire, and people skills. There's just so much negativity surrounding the big 4 from what I'm seeing, which is mostly online.

Agree with conditions. You can learn more if you're working for startups but sometimes that can be too much for somebody. Big 4 are definaltely a safer way to start and experiment with career options. Since the pay is low, your overall risk is low to the organization and yourself as individual.
@jacobg8640
@jacobg8640 3 жыл бұрын
@@ryanflores7624 The base salary is higher, but hourly rate is lower. Like say you were working in industry for 40 hours to make 40k. If you worked 80 hours in Big 4, you would only get 60k, not 80k. And those 80 hours are filled with much more stress and deadline requirements. It's still a good way to start of your career if you're young and have the energy to work those long hours for the experience.

The main reason why big 4 can pay better to their employees is due to one simple reason they charge their customers a higher rate. But yes depending on the grade if you are an associate they might change your less compared to someone who is the specialist lead for their service. That being said not everyone fancy working for Big4. It's great for a consultant but if you are tech-heavy person then perhaps Google or Microsoft will be the better option.

I would say connecting on LinkedIn (asking for short coffee chats to discuss firm opportunities) and going to career fairs. I applied to EY 4 times before I finally got accepted. Blindly applying did not help me at all. However, when I met Managing Director who was in the division that I was interested in, I used my elevator pitch and walked him through my resume. He was very nice and it was easy to talk to him(especially in person, rather than via regular messages). They are people just like every one of us, who want to see your personality and get to know you better. Connecting with as many of them as you can is key. Show them your ambitions, willingness to learn, and what you can bring to the table. Hope that helps!

Best of luck on your employment with PwC. I have known several individuals that were as excited as you are when they began and totally disappointed about 18 months later. The primary factor that will keep you employed at PwC is the "Utilization Rate". You get a pass on year number 1, but if your utilization rate subsequently drops below acceptable levels, they will drop you like a rock. In closing, get to know as many Directors/Partners as you can; as they will normally determine who is included in their current and future projects. Also, it is not about the current project, but the project you must be included in after the current one is completed.

Working at a big 4 is the worst mistake I have made. Outdated tech stack, very few young people in tech, horrible pay and benefits and out of all the worst ever work life balance. For a Master's Graduate hire in Software Development , they pay even lesser than what amazon pays to its technical support staff.

I currently an Electrical Technologist, I needed to become a project manager, to that I decided to take PMI-PMP, by God grace I am now a certified PMP. But I did not have any firm in mind to work for. Though I did some data analysis specializations with PWC such as PWC advance excel, PWC data visualization, PWC Decision making, PWC presentation skills etc. I also have the thoughts of working in oil and gas industries as a project manager. What do you think of this. Thanks

@@andreimonea8424 ahhaha as far as I know Delloite and KPMG don't pay their interns. So I am speaking from a perspective of an economist. Starting salary at PwC has increased this year to about 600e... so at least some things are improving. They have a lot of problem with employee retention, especially the juniors, as it's become clear that there are far better options than the "big" 4. In my opinion the option of working from home that PwC and some other firms introduced is a big plus, as at least you don't have to spend literally your entire salary for "professional - client ready, presentable" office clothes. Especially software developpers are getting jobs at IT firms as the starting salary is usually over 600e (for Microsoft I think it's above 1000e).

PwC guy here in France. Salaries are lower than the market, and benefits are close to non existent. I got promised interesting missions, a nice career path and a good salary increase during the interviews. Instead, I got staffed on missions that have nothing to do with my qualifications (so I nearly had to learn a whole new discipline) and I won't talk about the salary increase. In a big 4, you're nothing more than a resource for a partner who's focusing heavily on cash flow, and they don't really care about who you are as a person and how you value what you spent 5 years studying for. I'm greatly frustrated and I'm looking to leave it asap. Feeling like I've been lied to by the HR and the consultants during the interviews.

I was a little bit surprised myself. Maybe it's a Canadian thing. Compared to some others, it isn't really spectacular - in many regions, I should say. The hottest of the perks that the big four give, comes in form of exit opportunities, not necessarily compensation.
