You know, I was like hell no. No conch they are boring. Then I started my own CUC and had my mother drive me so I could hold the cleaner shrimp I purchased and she peer pressured me into picking out a conch. I now have 2 Strawberries and I can't agree more with you lol I also have 10 smaller types of blue legged hermits. Working out pretty well. I also have 10 extra shells in the tank for the Hermits just in case I have: 4 cleaner shrimp 10 blue legged hermits 5 Mexican grazing snails 2 strawberry conch 1 neon goby 1 blue tuxedo urchin

Love my Fighting Conce as he is a workhorse at keeping my bottom emaculant. Also, not sure what the problem is with Fire Shrimp. Mine is peaceful and does nothing other than go after uneaten food and also cleans parasites off my fish. Add to that that it is much more stunning in appearance compared to just about any other shrimp.

Love my conch snails! I have 3 and they are workhorses. I’ve tried trochus snails but they inevitably become expensive snacks for the green wrasse so as long as I have him/her, I’m limited in the small-ish snail department. ☹️ I think s/he may also have killed and eaten my trio of red banded cleaner shrimp as they slowly disappeared over the course of a month or so, once s/he got bigger. Having said that though, I do love my white-footed hermit crab, which has gotten huge and is an interesting character and algae annihilator. I’ve made sure to always have good-sized shells lying around the tank for when it needs to move house and so far, it’s been a model citizen. Another great video Alex! 👍🏻👍🏻

Couldn't tell you the size in mm, but I went for ATI Fiji sand with a mix of medium and large grain.

I have several cleaner shrimp and a blood shrimp, I was getting ready to put in a green Coris wrasse ,I was warned that they will eat shrimp looks like you have one in your tank ,have you’ve never had any problems with that or any of the other wrasses going after shrimp or snails

I don't have a GCW - they have a bad reputation for inverts. But my other wrasse are fine - they occasionally peck at trochus snails but they weren't interested in my cleaner shrimp - sexy shrimp might be more of a risk

I thought they were all very cute. I have a 16 gallon cycling right no and I’m wondering how many of each would I need? I don’t want it too be too crowded and we also have the aquarium near a window so some algae is expected. Any recommendations?

Urchins are fantastic but do move frags around if they're not secured properly. I'm a big fan of trochus snails personally.

Be careful with the cleaner shrimp, they might got to your coral, open their digestive tract to eat the uneaten food, and the might kill them. (Lost a stylophora and a seriatopora colony because of these)

@@ReefDork yes I am, I have seen it in person. One night, I took a flashlight and looked into the tank, and the shrimp was sitting on the coral nipping at them and the next day, the polyps of the coral were gone rest was fine, and then it went on.

@ReefDork

Yep, absolutely - I wouldn't have a nano tank without one. You need to drip acclimate them but there's no reason they're not beginner friendly - they look after themselves.

Hey Reef Dork. Hope you respond. But I just purchased 3 nassarius and 2 turbo snails for my Nano. My question, will salt water snails reproduce as massively as their freshwater counterparts?
@ReefDork

They'll probably reproduce, but nothing like freshwater snails - freshies reach plague proportions in no time

Disagree on the snail; good cleaner and good breeder but tend to starve to death as a result... Read the book Conscientious Aquarist on the subject, and let me know if you disagree.

I’m against the skunk cleaner. Steals food from corals starving them to death, scares small docile fish during feeding time and is in general a nuisance.
