While I had the idea to make this video, I thought it was going to take me a couple hours to complete and move on with my daily work. I initially thought it was going to be no more than a 5 minutes long video, but the more I go through my photos I realized that this video is going to be a big job. At the end, this video took me a full day to complete. Please support this channel as I am taking a lot of my precious time to educate you guys. I do apologize for the music low volume.

1968 seems especially nice to look at. Some people may find the design elements too rectangular, but somehow it hits the mark for me. They have this "graphic" quality, which enhances the readability, perhaps. There is just a sense of balance... 1968! I also feel the 50s designs, which preceded the pie pan, accomplished a similar feat with the two-tone dials, while being a bit more subtle.
@TimelessHistoryChannel

Thank you for the input and remarks. Not to mention that there are a few models from early 1960s still in manufactured in the late 60s. Couple examples would be the dog leg Constellation and the Seamaster Deville. You will see them throughout the entire early 60s to early 70s.

Great video! I am involved in watches but really starting to have more and more interest in vintage Omegas recently. Your videos discuss the complexities, details of the complications and variations in case configurations that I cannot find in any printed sources anywhere. Is it possible for you to list any details of each of the models shown here? I understand what would be involved in that. What about listings I specifically ask about? There are some multi-dial chronos in this video that I would like to have the model and movement number. Any knowledge you could share would be greatly appreciated. And again, wonderful job providing the level of information and background in your videos. Your material is truly unique.

I personally feel that as Omegas got more minimalist and classy they started to lose a little bit of personality, even though they're still very clearly and uniquely Omega in style. The sweet spot for me is the transitional period where many of the collectable models had been added to the Omega range but hadn't yet become quite so identifiably stylised. Seamasters, Geneves and Constellations from around 1955 - 1962 are the kinds of things I'm talking about. I love the crosshair dials, pie pans, slightly art deco indices, more delicate stainless steel cases, 50s style Arabic numerals etc. I find that patina on original late 50s dials often suit them where on later watches that are a little more sleek it detracts from the clean aesthetic rather than adding to the period charm. Some absolutely beautiful movements in that time period too, both mechanical and automatic.

I'd have to go with the 1960s versions, with the Pie Pan Constellations being particular favorites of mine. I own one, which I foolishly had the dial refinished on when I got it 20 years ago. The dial looks better than it did, but you lose the crisp edges when you refinish these. The 561 movement still keeps +2 seconds/day when serviced.
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. That's right, it takes a very good dial maker to properly refinish a pie pan and retain the sharp edges. But regardless, of how great the refinish can be a specialist will still be able to tell whether it has been redial or not.

Thanks, it helped me date my 4th Seamaster as a 1951, it is an automatic with sub second hand, seems to be holding time well. WIsh I could get some crowns and straps for these. I couldn't get the case to open to get the serial no. I can't find my dad's opening tool yet. Strange how the eye misses stuff. watching your video, I noticed the marking at 5 o clock is missing from my dial (just the two holes there) and my3 is missing a tiny bit off the bottom tip... I think it gives more character, but yeah, if you have any sources for this kind of thing...

You're welcome. Unfortunately, I do not supply or sell watch parts. Only offer complete watches. With regards to a 1951 Automatic Seamaster, then it should carry a bumper automatic movement. Thank you for your comment and good question! I tried to do that, but unfortunately, that was not achievable for certain year. For example, certain models will have different hands variation between years. And some will have the print changed between years. Example of that would be a 1965 Seamaster 600 will become a Seamaster 600 Geneve in 1967 and then become a Geneve in 1968/69.

Same scope of delivery when it comes to my c. 1969 Omega Bullhead chrono. So to recap: two (2) funky-ass, large & in charge, idiosyncratic watches from the late '60s-early '70s. & then I'll set my sights on a 1939 gold/silver/copper on black dial, Omega caliber 33.3 chronograph: among the finest executions of a watch dial attempted by any manufacturer, ever... -MasterVanDer

I know you are into vintage, but what are your thoughts on the Omega Seamaster 300m?

Never have I owned or worn one. Can't really say unless Omega send me one to make a review on I can tell you my thoughts. But I am very positive that it is a sturdy watch and you can't go wrong with the movement. Buying a watch is not only about looking good, but the mechanism will need to be just as great.

Just Deville alone? I do have some, but I couldn't fit everything into one video. And Deville only will date to the very late 60s which there are too many examples already. I also find them to appear too similar to a Seamaster Deville beside the shorter lugs. Sorry about that. :-(

@@SpaceSpice F300 is a tuning fork movement. It has coils and takes a battery that is discontinued but can be replace with a modern day Renata 344 battery. Quartz = battery. I am a watchmaker and an Omega specialist. I am sure I can tell a battery operated watch apart from one that is not.
@SpaceSpice
@SpaceSpice 3 жыл бұрын
@@TimelessHistoryChannel "Quartz = Battery" ok mr big brain who knows everything... what than you will say about Moving coil system, contact controlled: refers to watches with a balance wheel with integrated coil, fixed magnets and mechanical contacts. Examples of this technology are Hamilton 500 (first retail electric watch in 1957), Epperlein 100, Champion (Ruhla / UMF), Slava 114ChN and Timex M40. That doesnt have Quartz, they have other principle of work, for example transistors before the age of quartz and Seiko Astron (Quartz series) that was made much more later. - seems "Quartz =\= Battery" and yes you are sure can tell a battery operated watch apart from one that is not".

Maybe a third of them I would wear. I am a sucker for the gold ones either solid or plated with clean white faces and sharp gold hands. A number of them from around 47 took my fancy but in reality I wear ones with the date on them for practicality. It is an envious collection you have. I like the round crystal that is easy to find a replacement. I will watch out for some of these online to add to my collection. Thanks very much for putting them on !
