I like the straightforward factuals! My boyfriend and I are so sick of our desks jobs, so we delved into the idea of selling firewood! We live in a rural/suburban area with plenty of wood. We ourselves make a fire probably 2 or 3 nights out of the week for funsies, and we just love doing it! It would allow us to stay in shape, make money, allow us to spend time together we so desperately want, and be outside! We just have some saws, hoes, axes and chainsaws at the moment, but we'd love to grow and deliver bigger quantities eventually!

Those are the 4 exact questions I ask everytime I buy a load. You would be suprised at how difficult it has been the last 3 years to get a good load of wood. People sadly have no problem ripping someone off or lying. I wonder if they even think of the results of their actions? Great video!

I started a firewood business with my boys this year. I cater to the same clients mostly fireplace or back yard fire pit in London Ontario. I found a good price point and sold all my wood in the middle of the summer. Already have repeat customers because the wood is dry, seasoned and split small like you do.

I live out in the prairies in Canada Alberta. My only source of wood would come from logging trucks delivering it to my farm. I have the space and the equipment to start a firewood business but I’m worried about the distance for the logging trucks. If it is at all possible to do it this way I would really like to start a firewood business but it obviously has to make sense. There is a lot of campgrounds near me and not many firewood businesses in the area I do believe I can sell the firewood though. If anybody can give me any feedback that would be great. I really enjoy this channel it looks so fun

Chris, thanks for the video. I'm in the process of putting my firewood business together. I'm able to slow roll the process since it is a sideline business for me as well. I have property so space is not an issue. Do you age your wood on the ground or is all that wood on pallets? I'm setting up my wood yard and want to make it as functional as possible. Thanks!
@InTheWoodyard
@InTheWoodyard 4 жыл бұрын
Glad to help, ask all the questions you can! As soon as I get a load of wood I cut it up and split it so that it can start drying right away. But I stack it as soon as I can too because the stuff in the bottom and middle will not dry when the piles are so big like mine. Oak especially wicks moisture up from the ground and takes MUCH longer to dry. In some videos coming soon you'll see how wet, moldy and fungus filled it can get on the bottom. It takes 3 things to dry wood- SUN/HEAT - WIND and TIME. When you get loads in think about the end. Put it where you are going to cut it stack it and load it for delivery. Touch it and move it as little as possible.

@@InTheWoodyard I was thinking about just making decent (3-5 actual cord, that’s all it is sold in where I live) piles and then turning it periodically and mixing it up pretty good with a tractor. FYI........You can't legally sell firewood by the 'face cord'. Wisconsin, and most States, have adopted the NIST standards ( National Institute of Standards and Technology, United States department of commerce) which prohibits sale of firewood by any measurement other than the cord (or fraction there of...like a 1/3 of a cord or a 1/2 cord) or some kind of cubic foot or meter measurement. 2.4.4. Prohibition of Terms. - The terms “face cord,” “rack,” “pile,” “truckload,” or terms of similar import shall not be used when advertising, offering for sale, or selling wood for use as fuel. (NIST Handbook 130) Are the Weights and Measures folks gonna come after you ? Probably not, unless they get a complaint....but if you're in the firewood biz, you ought to be aware of the law, and stay with it.
@InTheWoodyard
@InTheWoodyard 3 жыл бұрын
That's good to know Ed, it hasn't been a problem yet! In all my years (58) I have never had anyone, customers or friends, say 1/3 of a cord. My whole life it has always been --- a face cord, which is a1/3 of a cord. So now I have started to force myself to say both all the time to avoid confusion. Thanks for the info!
