4 Forgotten Family Wagons Now Worth A Fortune!
We're going to talk about some awesome station wagons from back in the day. These aren't your average boring family cars - they're super cool and unique!
The Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser (1964-1977)
First up, we have the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. What made this car special? It had skylights! Imagine riding in the back seat and being able to see the sky. The raised roof also gave passengers more headroom, making the car feel open and airy. It was perfect for long family road trips.
The Checker Marathon Wagon (1960-1982)
Next, we have the Checker Marathon Wagon. This car was built tough, like the taxis you might have seen in old movies. It had a boxy shape that gave it lots of space inside. The cool thing about this car was how easy it was to fix. If you got a dent in the fender, you could just unbolt it and put on a new one!
The Studebaker Wagonaire (1963-1966)
Now, here's a really unique one - the Studebaker Wagonaire. This car had a roof that could slide open! That meant you could carry tall stuff that wouldn't fit in a normal station wagon. Imagine being able to take home a big Christmas tree without tying it to the roof!
The 1959 Edsel Villager Wagon
Last but not least, we have the 1959 Edsel Villager Wagon. This car was part of a brand-new line from Ford, but it didn't last long. It had a unique look that some people loved and others... well, not so much. The front grille was so different that people said it looked like a horse collar!
These station wagons might seem old-fashioned now, but back then, they were cutting-edge. They had powerful engines, comfy interiors, and features that made them stand out. Today, car collectors love these wagons because they're rare and represent a cool part of car history.
What do you think? Which of these wagons would you want to ride in? Let us know in the comments!

1968 to 1972 is my favorite years for the A-body. We had a 1972 Olds Cutlass wagon and my neighbors had a 1972 Olds Vista Cruiser wagon. I loved those cars, and eventually drove our 1972 until I killed the trans in high school. Lots of family road trips and hauling stuff from the hardware store - these things were the SUVs of the early 70s.

Dad bought red 9 passenger Vista Cruiser loaded but no tape player. Once, on a family vacation while Mom and sis were sleeping at 5:30 AM, he opened it up on the highway and gave me a wink. 310 horse 330 moved out pretty good

As a kid back in the 70s we had a 1968 VE Valiant Regal Safari with a slant 6. We travelled up and down Eastern Australia in it. Have grown up loving station wagons and it’s unfortunate that Australia today has seen the station wagon largely vanish and replaced with SUVs that are big and fancy but have lost the space that wagons had. Absolutely love videos like this. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I acquired a 2015 Golf Sportswagen TDI Manual 6. 72 cu ft cargo or 120 + cu ft passenger, 50+ cargo. 40- 49 city/town 51- 55 hiway mpg. For a Compact economy wagon it's comparable to some of the larger old wagons.

My grandfather's last car, which I bought after he passed. Was a 1966 Buick Special Station Wagon Vista Cruiser. I loved the early 60's Buicks and owned a number of them. Sedans, convertibles and station wagons; but I loved especially wagons. As a child I fell in love with them and drove them even when single with no children. My first car was a 1963 Olds F-85 sedan,the '63 olds F-85 was the most beautiful and perfectly design car of that decade. In the 1950's it was the 1956 olds 88/98 series, perfection in motion. If I could as an adult buy the one car of my dreams it would be a 1963 olds F-85 station wagon. Am 70 now and most view cars in more practical terms, but my inside youth still dreams of driving my 1966 Buick wagon Vista Cruiser that was my grandfather's last car. Miss you Pops!

Minor correction on the Edsel wagons. The engines are incorrectly identified as Ford FE engines. Although similar in exterior appearance, they are actually from Ford's M-E-L or Mercury, Edsel, Lincoln series. The FE engines topped off at 428 cubic engines, whereas the M-E-L engines maxed out at 462 cubic inches. Very few parts, if any were interchangeable with the FE engines. Also, when showing the 230 and 250 cubic engines in the Checker Marathons, the video was showing V-8 engines. The 230's and 250's were sourced from Chevrolet, but they were OHV inline 6 cylinder engines.

I owned a 69 Vista Cruiser. My Aunt and Uncle own a Marathon sedan. I took a nap on the floor in back on the way to Chicago where they lived. It was my first trip away from home at 6 yrs old.

Big car? Not then. It was an intermediate car. The Olds Custom Cruiser was the full size wagon. Longer and wider.

I had the pleasure of owning a 1970 Oldsmobile Vista cruiser. I would have kept the car however I loaned it to a guy, the transmission was low on fluid, so the idiot put motor oil in my TH 400 automatic transmission. Thus killing the car, I was at the time I didn't have the money to put a new transmission in it. I've always kind of flown by the seat of my pants.

The wagon aire influenced GMC and thus they gave us the Envoy XUV For 2004 and 2005, GMC offered the five-passenger Envoy XUV retractable-roof vehicle. Similar in concept to the 2001 GMC Terracross (a mid-size SUV concept), the Envoy XUV modernized the retractable roof concept of the 1960s Studebaker Wagonaire. To reconfigure the interior cargo space, the XUV was fitted with a "midgate" (similar to the Chevrolet Avalanche). Derived from the long-wheelbase chassis of the Envoy XL, the Envoy XUV design was exclusive to GMC.

How dare you compare a Station Wagon to Front-WRONG-Wheel-Drive POS Minivans?
@char1737
@char1737 Ай бұрын
The envoy XUV was not a minivan i didn't compare the two I spoke on how the wagon aire influenced the XUV
@user-xf2my3hq8x
@user-xf2my3hq8x Ай бұрын
@@char1737 They aren't connected. The Envoy is Rear-Wheel-Drive but it isn't a car. It is on a truck platform and is a SUV. A Wagon is on a Rear-Wheel-Drive Car platform. (D.O.T.D.) The others are Minvans and are no where near worth mentioning in the same breath as that of anything other than a Minivan and disrepects the others.
