The 1970s were a memorable decade for a number of reasons. Great car commercials are one of them. Today we are looking back at 10 awesome car commercials from the 1970s. Because of the graininess of some of the 1970s car commercials being old, we’ll start with some pictures and some nice clear footage of the car before we get into each commercial to appreciate the beauty of these cars in high definition. If you grew up during this era, hopefully, it brings back some good memories when times were simpler.

I was born in 1975 and I remember these cars on the road and the awesome commercials that went with them. One of my earliest memories is my mom bringing home a brand new fire engine red Datsun/Nissan 280 ZX turbo with t tops and a 5 speed. It became my car way down the road. We loved that car. EVERYONE made a comment on it wherever we went. I know that every generation thinks they were the best, but I TRULY miss the simplicity of the 70's and 80's.

Just a baby I was born in '69 and always lusted after '71 and older cars....80's cars were not really simple until you took off all the emmisions crap....and some were F.I.

I had one of those 70 Camaros. I bought it in 1977, so it wasn't very old. But, the way they built cars back then, it was already an "old" car. I paid $700 for it. It burned a quart of oil every hundred miles. Rusty pieces of the body fell off after every pot hole. The electrical system failed regularly. I didn't need the key to turn the ignition; a screwdriver did the job nicely. At $700, I may have over paid! But I was a kid. I loved it anyway.

@ginor8416 Not in Detroit. Cars fell apart fast in those days. My first car was a '71 VW. I bought it in '75 for $75. It was rusty and dented, and had no brakes, but it ran on all four cylinders. And it was only four years old!

Reminds me of an incident that happened to my brother and I in his '71 'cuda with a souped up 340 and big tires. Might have made a good commercial, or not Mark had to blow off some steam on a sunny afternoon (drugswereinvolved) and he went full throttle on the Crosstown Freeway near our home. He must have been spotted on one side of town and on the east side another cop caught up to it on an exit ramp. The angry officer walked up to the window and asked "DO YOU KNOW HOW FAST YOU WERE GOING?" Which must have meant they didn't have a clue - I suggested the answer, yet did NOT say - 'No, we don't, the speedometer only goes up to 160.'
