@@theavanderelst218 What you can do is slow down his speech by clicking on the gear icon below the screen on the right. When you see that menu go to "playback speed" and then click on the word "normal" and that will display your speed options. When I listen to Spanish sometimes I have to put it on .75 speed or even .5 for very fast talkers! Hope this helps. Greetings from Texas.

Thank you. I am 56 years old. Last week I fell on my face and broke 2 front teeth, got 5 stitches on my upper lip and stitches on my palate. When the anasthesia wore off, O U C H Y! The fell was so fast, at the time my hands were full, I didn't give a chance for my hands to stop the fall. Now I have to get a bridge (costly!). I think I tripped on the edge of my palazzo pants. Not really sure. 🤔 Later after the bridge, I really need to protect my fake teeth! And your video cannot come at a better time. Thank you sir.

Thank you for the video. Your exercises are great, and I will adopt them, but have a question. Does the 15 foot ground gaze still apply when the ground is seriously unpredictable? I ‘m almost 70, spend a lot of time in Mexico in an historic area with very poorly constructed sidewalks. There lots of uneven driveways cutting across the sidewalk, and cobblestones on the street. A few months ago, I tripped stepping up onto a sidewalk with a very uneven curb. I severed tendons in my shoulder, requiring surgery. The sidewalks are full of hazards, with utility trapdoors, driveways, unpredictable curbs and steps. In the USA it would be lawsuit city. Since my fall, I find myself looking down constantly.

I walk on a farm track/public footpath daily. Unfortunately I have to look down to avoid the dog mess. Thanks dog-walkers… Also, when walking where there may be logs or branches across the track I was always taught to step ON, not OVER. I have tripped a couple of times when stepping over, not lifting the back foot enough. I try to remember if I have to do that now. Of course, that’s not a pavement/sidewalk. I do try to follow the advice in these videos. Thanks very much.

I am lucky enough to not have a problem with tripping. I assume that those tips are good for prevention as well. As I do those two excerices anyway I basically get the added benefit for no added effort. They improved my gait. Looking ahead is an advice for motrcyclists too. It makes the ride much more stable. It´s a habit that keeps the walking good. For higher obstacles I may look closer to make sure I cleared them while stepping over them.

Thank you Will. I have an imbalance condition BVH, (congenital) which became worse as I aged (75 now) which has caused many fractures. I don’t trip but I’m terrified of falling and colliding with furniture. With BVH it’s impossible to stop a fall when I become imbalanced as my eyes also spin. Have lots of help, aids and Prolia treatments but this condition is unusual and not understood. I’d love to hear if you know of this condition. Have tried the BalanceBelt which helped slightly but not enough to warrant the cost. Also the vestibular attacks happen frequently.

With the first exercise with shoulders and bottom against the wall does it matter too much if I am unable to achieve this position due to having a numbers of compression fractures in my vertebrae and hence chronic pain in my back, along with kyphosis so I am physically unable to have my bottom and shoulders against the wall due to it resting in my back and giving me pain. Will it still be a good exercise to do as best I can. I have MS so unable to lift my feet like this. I will keep trying because even if just a tiny movement I hope regular practice will be the start of Neuroplasticity. Please advise 🙏🏻 on this issue.

What about doing a video on how to maintain ability to get up from the floor/ground also, in case you do fall. (I fell on the ice recently.) I noticed last winter I was having pain trying to get up from the floor when sitting there on purpose working on people’s feet as an elderly care nurse. I was having pain and surprised I was having some difficulty. This winter I am much better, I have increased my exercise in general, but honestly I don’t specifically know what I have done to improve. But there must be certain flexibility and strength needed for getting up. I understand it’s a complex move and related to weight and personal limitations also. But maybe there are certain things needed related to rolling onto your knees and being able to push up with your arms and legs that you could discuss. I can’t pop up off the floor just using only my feet. What an important thing to be able to do if you aren’t severely injured by a fall. I understand people reach their so called maximum rehab potential, which realistically may not include getting off the floor by themselves. (Ha, ask me how I know.) But being unable to get up is in part some of their fear of falling. I am impressed when people I care for have fallen and then somehow get up on their own, this isn’t common in care homes of course. Usually involves using something to grab and pull up. But not all of oldies are in the home yet.

I assume one can do individually on each leg. I cannot lift both together at all. Can barely lift individually, especially on right foot.

I think so, as a retired dancer. I did both with knee straight and bent. However, I'm not a physiotherapist.

Please can you show the correct way to walk with a stick? Also, how to measure the right height of your stick? I have 2 collapsed discs (inoperable) which are pressing on the spinal canel, causing cauda equina syndrome & chronic sciatica in both legs. The pain is excruciating & is 24/7 & has been for years! Love your videos! Thank you.

Will has a video on how to use a cane for walking. Other PT videos to look up are Bob and Brad. They are great for showing you how to use a cane and ski poles when walking plus other things. Sorry to hear about your caudal equina. I hope this is helpful.

I understand the benefits of looking 15ft ahead. Unfortunately, I'm blind in my left eye. Loss of vision in one eye causes PERCEPTION of depth or distance to be adversely affected. Perhaps I should invest in a walking stick to help detect undulations up close while looking ahead 15 feet?

That's awful. Why don't you try with a broom handle around your house first, paying attention to sensing the floor? Before spending money. I would say if this is the reason for it, be careful not to put weight on it over the years. You don't want to lose more facility.

Until there is something better, tack if you have the width. Have you sailed or skied? Zig zag, then it's not so steep.

I know this isn't tripping. I slipped on these ubiquitous pavers. There had been sprinkling of rain. I was wearing sport slides. I met a man probably around your age and he had the same experience down near the Opera house and he was wearing the very popular white leather walkers. He said he had a bruised hip for weeks.. These were the same pavers and on flat surfaces. Then I received photos of the township of South Carolina and again the same pavers. Is our only solution to walk bare footed?

So sorry... the last recommendation does not work AT ALL!!! My knee can bend, when I brace my muscles and do it slowly. But, if I allow it to swing more freely, the pain is instant and excruciating. The impulse to avoid that pain, is far stronger than repeating a phrase.
