I would say that the "Safety vault" is the most useful move of them all for the general public since people do it naturally a lot of the time. Outside of that some other moves that would take a bit longer to learn but would be really useful to get past an obstacle fast or for safety are the speed vault and the parkour roll, the speed vault is self explanitory on how it would be useful in everyday life, imo it could be replaced with the chest vault in the video but it does require you to be more fit and train it a bit longer but worth it if you're already relatively fit and healthy. And as for the parkour roll, say you're running and trip on something, what's the best way to save yourself? Land with your face or break your wrist or arms trying to land on them, or to go into a roll and keep running afterwards. Or if you ever fall from or need to jump down from a more than comfortable height which would be rare but better safe than sorry. And for the last move being able to do a wall climb up could also be really useful, not even the one with perfect form and smooth and pretty, but just being able to pull yourself up onto a wall.
@TheJasonPaul
@TheJasonPaul 22 күн бұрын
Totally with you on the safety vault, I do use it in everyday from time to time. The roll is also a move I wish everybody could do to keep one safe, but thankfully it’s so rare I use it (outside of Parkour) I can’t even think of the last time.
@alijahan
@alijahan 22 күн бұрын
@@TheJasonPaul 100% the roll isn't a daily thing like the safety vault, but i'm so glad i know it for that 1% chance that i might need it to save myself. But if we're talking outside of daily life it's also a great move for any athlete from any sport to know for safety reason, weather they play football or are a gymnast or any other sport where falls are common.
@DrMakak
@DrMakak 21 күн бұрын
@@TheJasonPaul My only everyday use is if I'm sitting on the floor and I have something else to do elsewhere on the floor. Why stand if you can roll?
@HeartlessKnave
@HeartlessKnave 21 күн бұрын
I agree with the Parkour roll usefulness, landing correctly and falling/rolling is definitely useful and a skill everyone should learn in childhood, like swimming. War story: A couple months back while training for a 5km run my feet got lazy on the last 1km and I tripped on a raised sidewalk slab. However, I instantly went into a Pk roll and back into running as one fluid motion without any time wasted. When I'm a certified running coach I will teach it to runners for that exact reason. That said, the main practical techniques/skills for everyday life someone should be able to learn relatively easily on their own. Ukemi, ie landing/breakfalls/rolls, should be taught by a certified/experienced coach/instructor. As learning it wrong can cause an acute injury or longterm damage; especially if being done incorrectly or forming bad habits and that is never corrected with cues and proper instruction, IMO.
@alijahan
@alijahan 21 күн бұрын
@@HeartlessKnave yeap, happy you didn't get injured during your run and could save yourself, it would be great if coaches from different disciplines would learn and teach the roll to their students for injury prevention like you're planning to do.

That was the origin of parkour as an focused discipline, and to a certain degree it's precedessor Méthod Naturelle. Moving efficiently from point A to B. Tricking is heavily associated with parkour, especially with the parkour/freerunning divide dissolving - doesn't mean that's all there is to parkour, or even significant portion.

I've always referred to the chest vault as the 360 vault, anyways that was the first vault I ever learned and all of these have been very practical for me aswell! The MOST practical vault of all time for me has been the lazy vault! It carries momentum so well and if it's chest height, you can basically come at it straight on. If it's shoulder height I just chuck a safety. Ill have to learn that last one! Very handy

I know all of these moves, and they were not too difficult to learn, just needed to have them explained and practise them a bit... with where I'm at in my journey, and parkour not being my main thing, the gate vault and pullover are like my "impressive power moves" along with the one handed cartwheel. :p It's all just where we're at... hadn't thought to use the sit vault like that... I'd typically thow the bag over the wall and then vault over, or worse yet, walk around :D :D This video is probably more something I'd want, but I wear my backpack so often and it's a huge hinderance when I'm going from A to B and wanna just causally try some parkour, cuz I feel i have to stop and take it off... are there any moves well suited for wearing a backpack? Not super heavy nor super light? Or any adjustments you need to be mindful off... like a common scenario is I walk in the woods with my son, I've got his lunchpack, changing clothes, water bottle, keys etc in my backpack... we pass by a fallen tree or something and I wanna vault over or something for the fun and to inspire him, without him having to wait for me to take off my backpack and stop :D
