what are the six most common and worst beginner mistakes? I thought about what I've seen in almost twenty years of Parkour and these are six things I wish people would stop doing RIGHT NOW. Maybe this helps a little.

I was inspired after watching Parkour for Beginners last week. Seeing the world around me with "parkour vision" is the fun part, actually doing it is not easy at all. Simple tricks that look super cool and effortless with Jason are hard and clumsy for me.
@TheJasonPaul
@TheJasonPaul Ай бұрын
yoo! welcome to the Parkour world :) Maybe it helps to know that the beginning is always a bit awkward. Usually enough repetition will turn a clumsy trick into something that feels natural.

Number 2 is soo important! Number 4 was a sign I think. I told myself when I could stick a precision 2 feet longer than I am tall, I would work on learning a backflip. Think I'm going to wait a bit longer.

I just finished looking through the majority of the free content. Watched the videos and read a few lesson plans. That is an xdreamly comfortable and effective set-up to educate an open mind Jason. I'm impressed. The more I see you breaking down into beginner detail. The more I realize how much I am already capable of doing, with some task specific warm-up. Flips & Twists with all their variations are really the only things missing from my bag of tricks. The main thing is really just putting in the time. We'll see what I can manage through the rest of this year, with all the changes that have been going on here.

With mistake number 3, I found that lining the bar/rail with my second toe (the one next to the big toe) does wonders for your balance. The second toe almost runs all the way down the middle of the foot, and it really made balancing easier for me! I use that tip with the kids I coach, and they find it super useful! I feel like the biggest one, warm up properly! You're using your entire body, it's important to make sure your body is warmed up thoroughly... it gets you ready (mentally and physically), but also helps prevent injury! Brilliant video Jason! See you at OMFG
@TheJasonPaul
@TheJasonPaul Ай бұрын
100%, that's how I show it in the online course as well. The warmup one is so true, and I even see advanced and Pro's mess that one up. I can't skip it at this point, every time I do a half-assed warmup I tweak or pull SOMETHING. see you at OMFG!

So much of Parkour is falling in love with the process of learning new movements and combos. A focus on only outcomes is going to leave you frustrated. If you can enjoy the process then you will have fun and be happy even when you aren't understanding a move or caught up in the fear, and that joy is what is going to keep you going and keep progressing

@ollililjestrom
@ollililjestrom Ай бұрын
Starting to jump downwards too quickly and injure knees/ankles/feet or back, or putting too much force on the wrists before you get the sufficient strength... I did some kind of "parkour" when I was a teenager in the early 2000's and back then my body was of course indestructible. But closing in on my 40's, I'm trying slowly to get back into more freedom of movement, but I regularly put too much pressure on my wrists or ankles (e.g. cartwheeling without a warm up, jumping down from terraces etc). It's hard to realise things don't come as fast as they used to.
@Keyboard12850
@Keyboard12850 Ай бұрын
@@ollililjestrom I agree, I would also add to this not warming up. Not going through some specific warm up from internet but learn to feel the body and how you need to warm up, many people do it differently. Through years of exercise I found what works best to me. I have really vunlerable joints, when I don't warm up in my way and for example try to do something from urge to movement when I see something when I go out, it can lead to injury. If I do normal proper warm up I always do before exercises I don't have this problem. I was climbing for more than 1,5h years, I havent had much problems yet thanks to my warm up and stretching/mobility routines etc. So next one would be to listen to your body and learn through experience, not always take everything for 100% what other tell you, experiment and feel into it, how you feel next day etc. And not trying to improve too fast, if your body need break, give it time. I would add something again xD Its good to see physiotherapits and tell him what you want to do, if you have some problems, tell him and correct it thanks to his advice/guidance. I used to search everything on the internet but sometimes for specific condition some exercises can lead to worse state.

When i started to do it, it was fun with doing friends we learned couple of tricks, we learned how to do the tricks right and all, we had fun but my friends started to lose their enthusiasm to do parkour aaand only im left doing tricks and stuff by myself alone. I want to have a motive to continue on this journey but its really hard to resist can you make a video about some motivation or can you please give some advice for people in the same condition like me? It's not always that those who can do something well can also communicate it so well, especially to beginners. Jason's videos are gem's. I'm going to go practice my balance now...
