People who say they love being single, are people who are just afraid to commit because they are scared. Love is always a beautiful thing. there is however nothing like a perfect marriage or relationship. What works for Adam might not work for Peter. I However learnt that in everything there is always a solution, 5 years ago my wife and I were on the brink of a divorce because we were having some difficulties in our marriage but we are back together ,it was a really bad phase but we got through it..

Why do people always get Freedom mixed up with being lazy and selfish?
@StoicInYourLife
@StoicInYourLife 2 ай бұрын
@janetbaker7848 Great point! Often, the idea of freedom in the context of being single is misunderstood. Freedom here isn’t about being lazy or selfish; it's about the opportunity to explore personal growth, passions, and self-reliance without the compromises that sometimes come with relationships. It's really about embracing independence as a space for constructive and meaningful experiences. What do you think drives this common misconception?

@@StoicInYourLife Your reflection on the power of solitude is both insightful and inspiring. It's wonderful to hear how this practice has enriched your life, mirroring the wisdom of Stoic philosophy. How do you balance the solitude necessary for self-reflection with the human need for connection and community?
@shawnsalmon5653
@shawnsalmon5653 3 ай бұрын
@StoicKing101 I agree with you, solitude is not loneliness. When you're in a relationship or marriage, you can lose yourself, you say things or phrases they would say, or you think the way they would think about people, places and things. Solitude helped me to get in touch with myself again, my thoughts, my attitudes, my likes and dislikes, apart from the ones she had, and honestly reexamine myself, being truthful with myself, examine the mistakes I've made, and to learn and grow from them. Some of this was painful and took some time for the pain to subside so that I could objectively look back. In my solitude, I thought about love and connection and came up with that people feel empty the next day after having a casual hook up because that's only half of the equation. It takes care of the physical needs, but doesn't fulfill the emotional need that one can only receive from a warm and caring relationship, i.e love. I don't know if you would agree with this or not ? To answer your question, I stay busy, working, and focusing on self growth and learning, and I highly value wisdom and intelligence, but humbly so. I really enjoy listening to you're wisdom and your practical application of it in real life scenarios. Many of the things you talk about are experiences that I had lived through and learned the hard, painful way. I wish I had you when I was younger, but then, when I was younger, there was no internet! I'm honored that you reached out to me. One more thing; I really enjoy how you include your personal situations, and how you overcame them. Keep up the good work, because I know this will help people who listen!

I change my life 10 years ago and am now 43 to choose to live my life alone in sollitude.....i have more strength, peace, power, happyness, freedom and time.....i am not feeling superior or better then others but more be carefully and awake. The more people around you, the more expectations, talk about others, lying, frustrations, negativity, jealousy, double standards, violent, own benefits, hate, comparing, judge etc..... reflection of their broken souls. People are programmed robot slaves of the system thinking happyness starts with extern factors like status, money, material things that means nothing and its relativ and an illusion create by society. If your happyness depend on extern factors you will never be because extern factors are endless. Happyness starts inside you. Be the light in your life

Stopped all the the social BS in 2011 after divorce. Not for everyone being solo. Some are people pleasers and can't be alone. Insecure with what is in their head while alone. I need to be alone to obtain what little peace I can in this superficial , materialistic modern society. I work alone and live alone . I'm good with this. I ask no one. I do what I want when I want. Nobody tells me what to do with my disposable finances.

That's extreme. Humans are not wired to be alone. You need to interact with others to learn and experience life beyond yourself. That kind of mentality can lead to becoming egocentric, selfish, and harboring negative feelings towards others.

I was single for 11 years and have now been in a relationship for 1 year and counting. Both have pros and cons and both have the ability to progress personal development. Some lessons can only be learned in solitude, my experience with people who have been single for extended periods is that they have an unmatched inner strength and independence that is difficult to achieve when in relationships. However, sometimes you need someone else to challenge you. It's easy to remain at peace in solitude. To truly live by stoic principles one needs to be flexible and consistent regardless of what life throws at you. Relationships are amazing, being single also, but neither can or will make you happy, you must be content within yourself to appreciate life whether lived alone or with a life partner.

Great video, I approve this message as being a single bachelor all my life , now approaching year 70. I’ve experienced all subtle comments behind my back for being single. I have reasons and experiences that validate my life’s choice but to numerous to go over here. But I live a total free life to do what I want. And I’m not tied down to the committee of compromises. It doesn’t matter if you’re single or married, life is what you make it. My life isn’t easy either. I’ve got to have a lot of self discipline and time management and to say no. Because if I don’t do it, it doesn’t get done. I have peace and quiet, less stress. Being married brings a hole host of responsibilities in of itself. So there you go, my thoughts on this.

@KingStoic101 My journey of self-love has taught me that people will treat you the way you see yourself. When you have self-love, it empowers your relationship. You are better able to communicate your needs and wants. Without self-love, you have insecurities in a relationship. It just puts unwanted pressure on your partner. When a person lacks self-love, the relationship is weak with too much distrust. You can't depend on other people to make you feel loved it has to start with you loving yourself.Going into a relationship without self love is like feeling empty and placing to many demands on the other person to fulfill you. Also, if you have a depleted sense of self, people take advantage of you. With self-love, it's helped me accept my flaws and love myself unconditionally.

@georgesontag2192 abuse is an unbalanced power dynamic, coercive control, gaslighting, exploiting, contempt, misleading people about their character or telling everyone but them of their faults, lying about them and to them, infidelity, targeting a much younger child to enslave/as opposed to a peer to work together with, intimidation, trying to smash a glass in their face, beating them with their own boots, humiliation, not hearing "no", sexual force, increasing risk and stress so your pregnant wife miscarries 4 babies, and the 5th miracle child is born 2 months premature, refusing to help them when hurt, mocking their distress, isolating them, reducing their confidence so they feel worthless, ugly & that everyone would be better off without them, abandonment, intentional cruelty you think they won't survive to tell, placing your hands around their throat when they've repeatedly asked you not to, smashing up the home, turning people against them, introducing your child to harmful practices, setting up a timed trap to harm your child that would only materialise when you were far away, playing the victim to use every resource your other half has then cruelly discarding them with a sly laugh when you think they are in the gutter at death's door, stonewalling for weeks, hiding possessions, poisoning or spiking their drink... all this and more - yet my ex-husband said he wasn't abusive, but the perfect, loving family man. He said I left because I was 'crazy'. Putting our child at risk made me flee him, the house, everything I'd worked for - just me, the baby, a few carrier bags and JESUS. If there’s any behaviour of yours that you wouldn't like people to know, it's probably that rather than any video game. "Solitude is a school of wisdom." - Seneca What insights have you gained from your moments of solitude and self-reflection?

Seneca's words resonate deeply! In my solitude, I've learned the importance of being comfortable in my own company, understanding that happiness is internal, not external. It's also taught me to appreciate the present and focus on what I can control, letting go of needless worries. These moments of self-reflection have been instrumental in shaping a more resilient and peaceful mindset. What about you? Have you discovered any personal insights during your solitary moments? 🤔🌟

I was married for 25 years and have been divorced for about 8 years. I would NEVER get married again. I did get three great kids though! I love being single and living alone. I don't EVER get lonely, I love being with myself. No pets to take care of, I rent a townhouse after owning 5 homes in my lifetime that were huge maintenance. This phase of my life is the absolute best! I look at most guys that are married that are my age and most seem miserable. More women for the rest of you guys....I will gladly give them to you!😁

I cry out to God for a companion at 67 years old. I love love, but unfortunately in 23 years I have not been approached. I'm cleaned, average looks, take good care of myself. Bills are paid and not looking for a "sugar daddy ", but a man to see the beautiful diamond I am. Men are super physical and maybe I'm not that face? I'm a very decent person and maybe that's the threat. I know women who loves finds them all the time. Oh well I will keep living.

Thank you for sharing your heartfelt thoughts. It's natural to yearn for companionship, especially after a long period of solitude. Remember, being single doesn't diminish your worth or the unique 'diamond' that you are. Stoicism teaches us to focus on what we can control - in this case, continuing to be your authentic, caring self. It's also about finding contentment within, regardless of external circumstances. Your journey is unique, and your self-worth isn't defined by others' perceptions. Keep cherishing your individuality and living life to its fullest. Your strength and resilience are admirable.

Everyone one of these topics is exactly true. And I’m enjoying the benefits of this style of life. It’s an apple and an Orange. There is no one right way to live! And no one should claim it’s better for others. I’ve had both. Both have positives and negatives. Personally since I’ve recently been single, my income has gone up, my focus on work and health is off the chart, I’ve met more people, and I’m planning a second place to possibly live in Italy. I’m not struggling. And I’m making a positive impact on people’s lives. Is it better? Better than what? It’s just good for me. If I happen to meet a woman who is right for me then I’d consider that too. The difference today is that people are more careful and want to make sure it’s right before entering an emotional, financial, and family relationship.

I've been married (5yrs)once, but single the rest. Many people have no ambitions and simply got married so as not to be alone; so, this is main stream to me. I lived a single life in Manhattan for 32 years. For a woman; many are not enjoying enough financial success however, THAT is not a good to marry. Many people are not independant but the rest of us have enjoyed being single...finding good company is a challenge. Sex is always there but why compartmentalize relationships? It is complicated. Money IS a huge factor.

Thank you for sharing your perspective! It's true that societal norms often push people towards marriage, sometimes overshadowing personal ambitions and independence. Your experience in Manhattan highlights an important aspect of Stoicism - finding contentment and fulfillment within oneself, rather than seeking it solely through relationships or financial success. It's admirable how you've embraced the single life, recognizing that companionship and financial stability, while important, should not be the sole reasons for entering into a marriage. Your journey resonates with the Stoic principle of focusing on what's within our control - our own choices and attitudes towards life's complexities. Let's continue to explore and appreciate the diverse paths life offers us, single or otherwise. 🌿

Very important topic. Unless you have the following attributes in your life, you will not be a happy single male: 1. Good friends who are available, who you can speak honestly with but still give you their full support and who really like you. 2. Good sex. 3. A solid career which is financially lucrative and growing. 4. A hobby outside of work. 5. Adoreable nephews or nieces where you can exhaust your natural fatherly instincts on. 6. Parents that you can care for. 7. A dog

Music and movies make romance to be the ultimate goal in life.. I have had several relationships and the reason they didn't work out was because we on different life paths and dating these days is becoming harder not easier. I am now 40 and very content in singleness while still having meaningful friendships, family time, work mates, great hobbies. Singleness isn't a bad thing it's actually a blessing.

I have been married twice and had romance and partners. Love is good for growing a family and security. There is satisfaction in all that, but being single is freedom. Being able to persue my own interests helps and satisfies personal growth.

I’m single because I cannot find an acceptable partner. Literally 1/25 women are even worth a second glance. I don t date fat single mothers so that’s 85% elimination right there. I won’t tolerate disrespect, so there is most of the rest are unacceptable. I would recommend not settling and sticking it out-wait for someone special that will add to your existence rather than leech from it. You need suppourt and loyalty to return the same. No one is being raised with any moral compass or values. It is a disgrace.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. It's important to have standards and know what you're looking for in a partner. However, it might be beneficial to consider that everyone has their unique journey and qualities. While it's crucial not to settle for less than what you deserve, maintaining an open mind could lead to unexpected, positive connections. Remember, respect and understanding are key in any relationship. Wishing you the best in your search for a compatible partner.
