I have learned from being in an abusive marriage, for almost 10 years, that silence is the best way to handle evil/angry, people. They want you to feed that demon of strife,by arguing with them. They literally get off,by upsetting you. They can't stand poised, calm, silence.😉

The most twisted tree in the forest that is not straight like the other trees is the most special to me. The same goes for people. Everyone is of value. exactly....often silence is more viewed as weakness....those who wish to hurt you won't be stopped with silence.....they will get angry and continue to berate you..... I know a woman who wouldn't give up until she destroys her target....being silent only makes it worse if you're the target.

@@darronaaaa362In my divorce I tried silence thinking that the truth would become evident. Instead, my ex wife got more time with the kids due to her false claims about me. All her claims were eventually shown to be false but it still didn’t stop the judge from giving her more time because of the initial light she painted me in. I strongly believe that my stoic tendencies hurt me in this. “We can’t give equal time due to the accusations “ initially and then “the kids are used to this schedule now” afterwards.

Silence is one way to deal with it but also can be harmful depending on the situation and person you are facing. There are times when stonewalling someone is more harmful than good and shows a great deal of immaturity and unwillingness to come to an understanding. Use silence judiciously, not as a “one size fits all” solution.

@georgiafrancis9059 Ray Charles said God gave us 2 ears and 1 mouth. We are to listen twice as much as we talk. You are correct, silence is not always golden as there is a time and place to speak. However, knowing when not to speak is the struggle most, including myself, have. Moreso, when it comes from anger, and the desire to be right even when we're not.

Thank you so much for this wonderful wisdom. I learned to stay silent and calm because of these wisdom. It hurts me sometimes specially at work. I may not have that authority or power. I have to stay silent, calm and control my emotions. My leader is so sensitive, dominant or superior, when you didn’t make her satisfied or when you did something wrong that she didn’t like it, she will treat you so badly. She want to be talk in a nice tone but she’s not aware on her own mistakes and don’t even accept it. So for me she’s not a real leader who couldn’t admit her own mistakes. And when my colleagues tell her about me that I didn’t do this and that etc. my leader listen to her/them and then she’s gonna get mad at me and that is a one-sided. She should have to stay in the middle not a one-sided specially she knew that my colleague is a liar but still she stayed to her side and she immediately believed her. I think my leader reaction has a hidden animosity at me because she treated me different. Anyway I may not have authority or power God knows what kind of human I am. She is only my leader but not my Lord so I don’t have to worry much because one day everything what she has done to me will come back to her.🙏😌

Just this morning I happened upon a baby blue jay in my yard. I not long after noticed an adult blue jay attacking the nest of a sparrow. I took it upon myself to use my water hose to scare off the jay. Only hours later I found the baby jay dead. It was obvious that he starved to death. At his expense I learned a very important lesson: never interfere with nature.

I knew stoicism and funny thing was I learnt a lot from oatmeal packages when I still lived at home. I like the length of the video- I probably could of listened to this all day. My recent advice is about what you heard just to add some more fill to…. Some one is trying to provoke you or make you feel one way or another. Just take note but don’t respond to it. Thing is negativity is like a chain reaction. My stoism is stay positive and let time pass- eventually you might get to the conclusion that energy never needed to be addressed. I’m like swimming here trying to do advice just out of nowhere. Sorry about that and it can go on. Like I have advice right in front of me but lost my pep. Patient people rarely need advice anyway:)

Is NOT the criticism by itself but the way they express any sentiment it comes with a change on their tone of voice, face and body language.

i agree with you in that silence is rewarding most of the time. However, sometimes people who keep silent are considered like unfriendly and proud. In my opinion, knowing when to speak and to keep silent , silent is important.

Some days I couldn’t control myself. Some days I am able to. The key is self-awareness, achieve mindfulness and “living in the now” will be super easy. Have a blessed day y’all.

I have tried the silence. I come off rude or wtf is wrong? I feel tension when silence is too long. But…. I love the silence just not the negative with people not knowing how to judge you. In the end basic communication is all you need because anything else is pointless by the end of the day.

👍👍 this is a great post. I have been thinking about how people don't listen anymore. Several things stand out. Most people listen to reply not understand. They are merely waiting for their turn to talk, mainly about themselves 😂😂 or how what you are saying relates to themself. I can't get a bloody good conversation out of anyone anymore because no one thinks! I found one good reply which is... "Im sorry, did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours"? That shuts them up and gets them thinking...😂😂

The Buddhist say we are accountable for everything that happens to us. That principle is one that guides self-reflection and therefore silence.

My ex-mother-in-law fed on gossip and tattling. Being a bully. Negative Nelly. Always making fun of people. Complained every breath. Never had anything nice to say; just plain mean. Honestly, I really felt sorry for her because she obviously hated herself and took it out on others. She was the very definition of a toxic person. Being around her gave me an unsettling feeling; I avoided her like the plague. She's one of the reasons for my divorce. Her husband thought she was the best thing since sliced bread; let her do whatever she wanted, never made her work. I always thought that was why she acted the way she did. She didn't have to be nice or try to get along. Nothing but time on her hands and never had to work or worry about anything with the full support of her idiot husband. Very sad people are allowed to behave that way. I've seen people let their children behave like that. Totally out of control with no repercussions. That's not love. That's ignorance
