Hey man first off thanks for taking the time to make a video. A lot of people talk about it but then don’t actually do it. PLEASE keep doing like you did on this video going right into the subject. So many times people take forever to get to the point and you do a great job of doing that. Great use of B-Roll and cut-aways relevant to what you are talking about and it doesn’t distract from the video. Not that you asked and don’t take it the wrong way. Your key light is a bit cool and makes your skin look bit ashy maybe bring the temp lower or add an accent light with more color. I am happy to sub and keep up the good work man!!!

Thanks so much for the feedback. I have to give my oldest son credit for persuading me to give this a try. It is scary to just through yourself out there. No worries at all on the lighting suggestions as you don't know what you don't know and thanks to you I have an action item to work on in that area. Besides my wife listening to me talk about filming, I am kinda alone on this journey, so your feedback is welcomed with open arms.

Great video mate! One thing stopping me from pulling the trigger on one is the lack of a open gate setting, shutter angle and false colour. If Sony added these functions, I'd be on board with it! It is a solid camera, but is missing some features that I believe a cinema camera should have. Anyways, all best on your journey dude, keep at it!

Hey. I’ve been shooting for a while now. I’ve been on the fence about picking up the fx3. I currently built out my A7iv for video but hate the crop factor. This video was extremely helpful. Thank you.

Thanks so much for the feedback, and I'm glad the video was helpful. I also have the A7IV and purchased it before the FX3 so I was in the same boat as you. If the A7IV is your only reference point the FX3 will throw you off just a bit as it does not have a mode dial on the top and the power button is off to the left of the body. It took me a few days to get past that and I never looked back. Having that 24p through 60p with no crop is killer, and 120p has a tiny crop so small you can't even see it. You should enjoy it my friend, and if you don't let me know I will pay for you a 🍺

Hi Mark, thanks for sharing your views. I'm a long term stills shooter trying to teach myself how to make good video. It's interesting to hear you bought a FX3 after an a7iv? I can relate to that, liked your video and approach/integrity, so subscribed to see where your video/FX3 journey goes. I'm now down to just one Sony body, the a7iv and I'm seriously considering buying a FX3, even over an a7Siii. I want a 2nd camera and maybe a 3rd too. I aspire eventually to be able to handle multi cam shots for video especially interviews (wide, mid, tight etc) to assist final edit. I also like idea of having 120fps for slow mo. But right now I'm a video novice. I shot Nikon for 28 years but in 2018 felt mirrorless was the future and, underwhelmed by N's Z6/7, started selling circa 15+ Nikkor F lenses and 3 DSLRs in a switch to Sony. Bought a Sony a7Riii late 2018 with 3 lenses and started to like it. Added an a9, then sold my a7Riii for the higher MP a7Riv. Didn't like huge file size for ALL stills and was unimpressed with AF speed vs a9 on a Sony 200-600G for sports stills and nature. So, sold that intending to buy an a1, just as the a7iv was launched. So held off buying an a1 and decided to pre-order an a7iv to see how it faired as a hybrid. Like it for stills whilst video potential seemed good (rolling shutter not great in panning). I have yet to fully explore it's video capabilities, but realise that an FX3 with firmware upgrade makes that a better video main cam. I'm torn because I miss my a9 (sports stills) so I think just buy an a1. But that's less good for video (eg no real timecode capability and no firmware updates eg focus breathing). I considered newest a7rv - excellent flip screen, ok for video but lacking low light capability of a7siii/FX3 or sheer AF speed and shot rate of a1. The a7siii didn't get firmware upgrade the way the FX3 did (possibly significant, but maybe I'm reading too much into that). Also with a new Sony TC cable it's looking great (timecode) if I pursue video interests, perhaps only lacking an electronic variable ND (eg like FX6). Newer FX30 isn't quite the saving vs FX3 (eg no supplied XLR top handle, APS-C with further crop at 120fps and I have good range of GM full frame glass, lower ISO capabilities etc). So I'm conflicted. Probably I will keep my a7iv (for now) buy an FX3 soon, start seriously practicing video (learning on personal projects .... practice, review, learn, practice etc). Then consider future moves in light of my progression and what kit is available. I want to make considered investments, rather than just 'rush in' as my spare time is limited and this is really an indulgent hobby/passion. I'm fortunate in being able to afford pretty much any camera or kit I want. But l don't want to just buy loads of kit I can't properly use, or waste money and time buying the wrong stuff. Right now I'm leaning towards an FX3 next. Hence my interest in your journey and where video takes you. Separately, feedback on yours (and I'm not being critical it's just an observation)... to my ears, sound was a tad 'boomy' with a lot of reverb (used to be known as 'voice of God' from my advertising days). Possibly from using what looks like a shotgun mike in a 'bright untreated (for sound) room. What mike are you using? One tip is consider using one or more 'Producer sound blanket(s)' - used out of shot, they can help control reverb, also as one side is white and other black they can assist in light control too with fill of negative fill. Another tip is consider using a 'pop filter to limit the plosives, if/when close miking (I'm talking like a 'sound guy, which I'm not). Finally, your intended presentation style - no wrong or right and totally optional, but best if a considered choice.... (should one present with a visible mike and headphones on go discrete i.e. hidden lav or mike boomed out of frame)?

First thank you so much for the feedback and honesty, This is still super new to me so I appreciate and welcome the feedback and conversation with open arms. There is a lot to unpack so please accept my apologies if I miss anything. Before I had the FX3 or A7IV I was a Canon shooter and had the 7D Mark II. I was tired of hauling that heavy Canon body around on vacation and wanted to give mirrorless a try. At the time the Sony A7III was selling like hot cakes and had so many features I purchased one. That camera blew my mind and was my first step into fiddling with video. My oldest son started a streaming channel and I gifted him my Canon 7D. It worked but he needed a few more features that Sony provided. Instead of him buying a Sony A6600 I gifted him again my Sony A7III and I purchased myself the Sony A7IV. So that's how I ended up with the Sony A7IV and it worked great until I started the KZfaq channel and decided to talk about camera settings and gear. I needed another body to record with and it was between the Sony A7S III or the FX3. I chose the FX3 because the A7SIII was too much like my A7IV and I felt it would scavenge time away from the A7IV and it would become a paper weight and not used much. I used to shoot sports with my Canon 7D Mark III so I see why you naturally adopted the A7RIII, A9 for nature as well. What I have discovered with Sony and this might be with other brands. The hybrids are great but they come with some compromises. The A7IV takes amazing stills and amazing video but it does and will overheat and you have to adjust for the crop at higher frame rates. The problem you are facing is with so many choices you get locked into analysis paralysis. Here are a few things that I can share that helped me decide on the correct body. My focus is now 95% video and stills are all but non-existent now. The FX3 checks all the boxes a new content creator could ever need, and the A7IV is my B cam and if I have no idea what I will be shooting it goes in the bag. The sound in the video is terrible, my office had carpet in there before and we had to move out of the house for 2 months due to water damage and we replaced the carpet with laminate planks. I had no idea how much sound the carpet absorbs and I recorded that video with pretty much no treatment in the room. Rookie mistake for sure, so I built 6 sound panels and installed them on the walls but before that I hung moving blankets all over the room which was a pain to put up and take down. Your ears are NOT fooling you, the audio was trash and even my rodecaster is awesome as it makes you sound it could not be saved. The MIC question, I am glad you asked. I have a rodecaster pro with a POD mic that I use for recording my voice. (I created a podcast a year ago and this is leftover gear from that experiment). I personally think that it looks cleaner to have a lav or shotgun mic out of frame BUT I am so done with buying gear I refuse to add any more kit to this setup until I can prove to myself I can get better and continue to produce value to the viewer. Once I get there I will purchase another MIC. Again, I hope I helped but to be honest a phone call might be in order, if you ever want to chat it up about gear instagram has a call feature we can use if your up to a chat some time. Thanks again.

I'm on the same page bro, the dual native ISO is the most useful feature on cameras, like sony and panasonic. You dont even have to buy powerful lights because of this, I can shoot at 60W led lights and get a clean image compare to cameras without dual native ISO I have to use 120w lights above. Dual native ISO really is a deal breaker man, great video!

@markthecre8tor
@markthecre8tor 8 ай бұрын
Man, you're throwing gas at ya boy. That is a tough question and might be better suited to answer over a beer. Lol but I will give it a go. The A7SIII and A7IV both are full frame cameras, the FX30 is not. If you're a full frame shooter and don't need that 1.5x crop that you gotta eat with the FX30 it might not be a bad deal. Also the native ISO for the A7IV is 800/3200 and your A7SIII is 640/12800 I think. I will admit having that 12800 is just flat out insane to have. This one my friend might come down to your use case, if I was shooting sports I would get a fx30 for that extra reach, but since I don't need it for what I'm filming the full frame cams work for my stuff. What kind of subjects do you film? The FX30 high ISO is 3200, so it's the same as the A7IV
@markthecre8tor
@markthecre8tor 8 ай бұрын
If you need it, and the extra reach from the cropped sensors does not get in the way, and you're okay with the 3200 high native ISO, it might not be a bad soldier to add to the squad.

That looks to be a software bug for sure, as I work in the tech space and understand software pipelines I understand your frustrations as these types of bugs can't be easily rolled back on devices such as cameras. I know this is a dream but how cool would it be if the camera was running minikube and the firmware could be rolled back to a working version in seconds.🤔
