The piano part i play at the start of the video was written by me in 2012. I used it in a song called 'You're Alive', which you can listen to on Spotify - Just search "Andy Crowley You're Alive" to listen!

I’ve been trying to make a song but I always forget the melody and lyrics and so I started another one. I have discared around 13 melodies that could help me make a song but I always forget them.

Top tip; RECORD EVERYTHING, voice memos on your phone are ideal. Revisit these recorded ideas days or even weeks later to judge whether you can make them into a song or not. You'll thank me! All the best 🤙

Andy like me you started on the Piano/Keyboard. When you are song writing do you tend to do this with the Piano/Keyboard or the Guitar?

Both equally, and often I'll write something on one but then play the majority of that song on the other. For me it's all an exercise in kidding yourself you're doing something new and avoiding sounding too derivative, so swapping instruments really helps

Honestly the best way it to have a sheet that you can visually see the chord shapes on. Pick a chord and finger it, strum the chord 8 times and then release the chord. Repeat for 10-15 minutes per chord. You have to practice to the point you develop the muscle memory. You cannot really cheat through that bit. Then once you've learned a few chords learn about what I call anchor fingers for transitioning between chords easier. Minimising the amount of movement you have to do between chords. Everything just takes time and practice, practicing every day for just 15 minutes is better than 1 hour 1 day a week. When you get to learning scales and want to start soloing it'll feel like going back to square one and the long practice will continue, BUT once you can make the noises in your head come out of your hands it's a great day.

I hope you answer I am a beginner si I wanted to know do you know percussive fingerstyle and do you teach it I just want to one day make my own chord arrangements like you and be a fingerstyle and percussive fingerstyle guitarist 😍
