As your baby grows, you’ll start to notice several behaviors that can be alarming for parents. These behaviors often cause parents to worry about possible delays or underlying medical conditions.
But the truth is, many of these behaviors that look concerning are actually a normal part of your child’s development.
In this video you’ll learn about 4 common behaviors that are common causes of stress for parents and what they actually mean. You’ll also learn when you do need to be concerned. Hopefully knowing a little more about what’s normal and what’s cause for concern will help you feel more confident and less stressed as a parent.

My little one loves to do the step-crawl mix on non-carpeted surfaces, because she seems to like being able to quickly sit up and look around. That one lag down seems to let her quickly balance in a sitting position.

I just read this in a British article, "Landau Reflex is a secondary reflex that appears around the fourth month of the baby’s life and whose absence may be an indicator of motor weakness or a slower mental development." Why would they say that is it because they're leaving after something else goes along with it?

Our - now 15 months old - daughter used to (and sometimes still uses) the step-crawl mix which I've never seen before. It's very funny to watch and I didn't realize until now that this technique has got a name, since I'd never seen any other baby doing it. Thanks for this video, very informative!

Thanks a lot from France, your video is really helpful and really well structured. The only point that i don't get on the net (before asking to a doctor) is about agressivity: sometimes my 9months baby tend to be a bit agressive like putting his fingers in eyes, pulling dad's bear, refusing to be changed ... 1st week home with our newborn, she burped up through both her nose and mouth while laying on her back. As she continued sputtering and choking and crying, I calmly lifted her out, rolled her face down, and started wiping her face before burping her some more. My wife was shocked at how calm I was. 8 years lifeguarding! If they're coughing or crying, they're still fine.

What about toddlers and shyness/social anxiety? My 2 year old daughter is very talkative and playful at home with us and at the park with her aunts and cousin. However she will point her head down, avoid eye contact, get very quiet, and stiffen her body when interacting with strangers or family members she doesn't see very regularly. Also if someone who she isn't comfortable picks her up or holds her hand without permission will make her cry and call for mom or dad I'm worried about her going to school in the future because it seems she will have a lot of anxiety. For example she is in swim classes and is fine with her teacher and classmates But she cries at the front desk workers and substitute teachers

@92spice18
@92spice18 Ай бұрын
Ignore the disrespectful idiots. Your concern is valid. Social skills are very important, and as we can see from some comments, some people have poor social skills. First, figure out if it’s just normal shyness or true anxiety. Try to find books about meeting new people and read them together. You can also prepare her for meeting new people and family members. Before they come over let her know who’s coming. Show her pictures of the person she will meet and praise her for little things like waving or saying hello. You can even do this with FaceTime, but make sure you prep her for the encounter first. Give her space to just take her time, and warm up to new people, she may just be an introvert which is perfectly fine. It may take a while so don’t get frustrated.

I wish to see a similar video about choking on saliva (without any reason, as I understand) My 3-month-old baby does this from time to time since she was born. It happens mostly after 2-3 hours after I breastfeed when she is laying on her back. I guess it is not the milk but her saliva, she is also drooling at the moment, anyway, I searched to find the answer on different forums, Reddit, etc. some say it is reflux, but my baby seems not to suffer from it...

Have you tried modeling the proper way to use the toys? You can also teach gentle vs. rough playing and provide positive reinforcement when they play gently. Also, when you hand them a toy don’t say “don’t throw it.” Just hearing the word “throw” might make them want to throw it. Instead give them a command that matches what you want them to do like “hug the bear”, “drive the truck”, “ bounce the ball.”

Sometimes this happens few times per day, and sometimes a lot...much more often. Since he is 11months old and occures with different intensity, should we be worried? She absolutely hated tummy time, even with the tips received, and would turn to her back as soon as possible and be very frustrated if we blocked her. My baby is 18 months and likes to hump on my leg or an edge. It started out as a sign to communicate she pooped when she was much younger but now she does it even when she doesn't have a soiled diaper. She gets lost in the moment and gets very angry when you move her. It is actually worrisome please what do I do?

Hi! If your little one does have developmental delays it is best to work with the allied health professional who specialises in that area to give you tailored advice and help address these delays.

I thought my baby is having seizure at 5 months old so we went to the hospital and admitted overnight. She had head ultrasound, ECG and electrolytes all were normal result. Referred to neurologist from children’s hospital and said it is self stimulating events. Is there anyone here who’s baby diagnose as mine???Is it normal and will just go away????until when it’s gonna last?I am worried it is associated with austism/ADHD. Thanks.

So my baby has got into the habit of lifting her little legs like she’s doing scrunches and then kicking them onto her bed. It scared the crap out of me one night but she sits there and bangs her feet down on her bed what is this?!? 😂😂

My baby did this too, he would thump his feet down onto the mattress several times. He wasn't tired or hungry, just calm. About a month after he started doing it, he was able to bring his feet up to his mouth and stopped doing it. I hope that helps.

Hi, Emma! I have a one year-old. I'm starting to get worried that she might be on the autism spectrum because I keep seeing some signs (I used to teach at a school for children with special needs). Our pedia appointment hasn't been made yet, but I just wanted to know if you got some videos I could watch about the topic. Thanks, as always!

Could you please tell about thumbsucking and how to stop it?
@EmmaHubbard
@EmmaHubbard Жыл бұрын
Generally kids stop thumb sucking between the age of 2 and 4. Generally the way to reduce and then eventually stop it is to identify what is triggering them to suck their thumb and give them an alternative strategy.

My baby did this for a couple of months, he figured he could get around by just rolling!!! He was sitting on his own when we would place him down, but couldn’t figure out to go from tummy to sitting. Don’t worry, he is now army crawling with “normal” crawling in between. Im sure your little one will get it :) I would recommend watching some videos to help him/her to getting into sitting position. Babies are funny and love to scare us, one day they just wake up and master that new skill on their own

@EmmaHubbard
@EmmaHubbard 10 ай бұрын
Hi! Babies do different behaviours and most of the time they only last a few days or a week before they move onto the next thing. Just keep an eye on it and if you are concerned or you can't identify why she is doing it (eg. is she trying to communicate something to you) then I recommend you have a chat with your doctor.

My baby crawls backwards - is this normal? 🥺
@EmmaHubbard
@EmmaHubbard Жыл бұрын
When they first learn to crawl it’s not uncommon for them to initially push themselves backwards. With time they should start to crawl in a forward direction. Also if your little one is trying to crawl on floor boards or tiles and they are wearing pants this could be making it difficult for them to get traction and go in a forward direction

@@EmmaHubbard thank you so much for this clarification, I absolutely love your videos! They are so informative and help to put my mind at ease. I had one more Q - my LO flaps his arms and hands a lot. I have recently started to become paranoid about him showing signs of autism. In this video, your baby was quite gentle, mine is extremely hyper when he flaps and is very repetitive!
