Added tip for Solid bags. Take a baiting needle and poke some holes in the bag all over. If you don't air bubbles will form and lift the bag up in the water pretty much 'tipping' your rig and bait out which tangles the rig up. If you poke holes then it dissolves evenly and prevents air pockets.
@matthewcollinsangler

Thanks mate, that's an excellent point. I often forget to do that because I fish mostly in shallow water where it matters less.

@@matthewcollinsangler Thanks, love the videos by the way. I often forget myself I spend time making up a solid bag, just to see it floating on the surface once cast 🤦‍♂️ a few holes and its great. I tested it in a bucket of water, the difference between pierced and non pierced is massive in terms of presentation.

If you don’t have pva tape just lick your fingers and twist the pva bag around your leader and pinch tight this will melt the bag around your leader.

Hi mate, thanks for commenting I hear what you’re saying and yes, that works well too if you’re not casting very far. In my experience, if you give it much more than a gentle lob, the bag will just explode in flight lol. Another trick I’ve used if you run out of PVA tape is to use a bit of mainline to tie tightly round the top of the bag. Cheers, Matt.

Matthew i forgot to ask could you show me the best way to tie a hing-stiff rig as i heard they can be good for light weedy area's or is the not true, and the Ronnie or spiner rig can be used or is not the case would be great if you let me know as im planning to go for the weekend and would really be greatful if you could get back to me for tomorrow as I'll be 4-5 tomorrow morning. Thanks David i know your a busy man.

Hi David, for the stiff hinge rig, I've got a video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbGHaJOX39yVmqM.html It's not a rig I use much to be honest but it's a useful one. I don't fish weedy lakes anymore but I've certainly fished a few in my time. I think if I was tackling one nowadays I'd either use a solid PVA bag approach or my mono d rig fished with a popup: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ntV4dZSYzsXXgac.html . You can fish as long a hooklink as necessary with the mono d to make sure you rig is presented. You should be able to tell the weed depth with a few casts of a rig. Change the hook after your test casts though as it will be damaged. I'd use a leading rod to find cleaner spots rather than a marker rod as you'll get more feel. All you need is a spool loaded with braid and a few different leads. If the weed is bad then you should dump the lead. You can either fish outline in-line or use a lead clip which is pinned to the swivel. The tail rubber should only be pushed on a short way, or cut down the arm. In the past I've tied the arm shut with pva to avoid dumping the lead when hitting the surface of the water. I don't fish with the ronnie or spiner rig so can't comment. Hope those tips help. Do let me know how you get on :)

Hi Matt great video but on mesh number 4 variant you soak it in liquid ,does this not cause the mesh to dissolve ? sorry if seems silly question .
@matthewcollinsangler
@matthewcollinsangler 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dean, not a silly question at all! Yes, PVA melts in water but you can use use PVA friendly liquids (they are usually clearly marked on the bottle). Nowadays I use products such as plume juice just to add a bit of a boost to my PVA mesh. Check out this little video for more information: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gdNjaNp5l7yWhHU.html. Glad you liked the video and I hope you enjoy the rest of the channel. Cheers, Matt

Great Show Matt. What puts me off PVA is the knot in the bag or mesh not dissolving properly in the lake. Is this an issue or will it break down fully. Cheers.
@matthewcollinsangler
@matthewcollinsangler Жыл бұрын
Hi Colin, I've had a few anglers comment about that but TBH it's not something I see in my own fishing and I've used loads over the years. During the winter, PVA breakdown rates are slower for sure and brands do vary. As a general rule I'd avoid the cheap gear. Some of it's got a funky taste and it can be a heavier weave mesh that leaves a nasty blob. I use loads of the standard Nash PVA mesh. It melts quick and is undetectable. Here's a little video I made this winter using it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gdNjaNp5l7yWhHU.html cheers, Matt.

Matthew your tips have helped me with my casting and have been able to inprove my casting alot better not perfect evertime but alot better than before so thankyou for the help. My local water is a very weedy lake i have used the chod rig, i was going to try the heil rig with lend core but i use one with steel instead of lend. What other rigs would you suggest i could try to use. I use the sticky krill and make pva bags to bait up so the fish can feed with no hooklink but they feel safe and they do think about the hook link and has work a good number of times. I would begreatful if you would have any other ideas i could try. Any tips or advice would be very welcome Matthew thanks dave cuddy enjoy the video's alway learning something when i watch them keep them coming. Help in a very weedy water would be great Matthew.

I have been putting my spool with braid on so i can go and have a lead about and put some pva bags with bait in some krill 4mm pellet crumed up kill boiles and krill active with some couldy krill. So i can put these traps in and when i put one with a hook in it so the fish feel safe but in other spots i can spod some out as i broke my paddle for my diggie. Thanks for all your help and advice i feel like im being a pain matt but you have some great ideas and use a wide range of tackle and don't say that you need to use one company for everthing. And i like that as im on a low income and your way truely helps thank you for the work you do. Traps bags krillbait

Hi David, sounds like you’re really upping your game, that’s a good plan you’ve got there. Thanks ever so much for your kind words of support. Hey I’m just nuts about fishing but what frustrates me is the marketing BS. Ironic really as my wife is a marketing professional lol. Carp fishing is a really simple sport, made to seem really really complicated in order to make money. Razor sharp hooks, simple rigs and an effective baiting approach: that’s all you need. All the best and if you have other questions, just get in touch 😊
@matthewcollinsangler
@matthewcollinsangler 3 жыл бұрын
Hi David, hopefully I covered some of that in my reply to your other comment. The other thing to note about weedy waters is that they tend to be gin clear and for me that makes them prime for black foam zigs. A combination of 8lb mono hooklinks of up 10ft long, a tiny piece of 8mm x 8mm black foam, siize 8 - 10 hooks and knotless knot has caught me some massive carp from beds of Canadian pondweed 8ft thick! You must dump the lead on the take of course, no freebies required and yes you can fish them right through the night! Good luck, Matt.

Hi Matthew why do u use vaseline on the tip of the hooks for, just a question, does it protect the hook or something, thanks
@matthewcollinsangler
@matthewcollinsangler 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, yes that's right.I hand sharpen my hooks and that removes the original coating so I use vaseline to provide a very thin layer of rust protection for when the hook is in the water. You can also use nose oil (just rub your finger against the side of your nose and wipe that on the hook). It does the same job and saves carrying a separate pot. Cheers, Matt.

hi sorry for daft question but... how much does the length of hooklength matter when using solid pva bags? like i always thought it was shorter the better but i see you’ve used a nice long hooklength is this because of the type of carp your after specificly i.e the strain and how they feed? or is it another reason? regards and great video. mkg
@matthewcollinsangler
@matthewcollinsangler 5 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, thanks for commenting and glad you like the video. It’s not a daft question at all. This was filmed at my lake in France and I’ve found that when I used the “normal” short hook lengths that you’d associate with solid PVA fishing, the carp got away with it more often than not. So I went back to a length that I fish when not using solid PVA bags and I caught more carp… The carp average low 30’s and go to mid 40’s. Some have very deep bodies so I think what was happening is that the hooklink was straightening too early when they were tipped over at a steep angle. Gravity then helped them spit the rig. Nowadays when I fish there, my hooklink are 8” long and that seems a very reliable length for me. Every water is different so it’s OK to fish different lengths at different venues even when solid PVA bag fishing IMO. All the best with your fishing. Cheers Matt.

@matthewcollinsangler
@matthewcollinsangler Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, to be honest, there are no rules, a parachute bag rig could be 6’’ or 18’’. It depends on the fishing situation. Check out this video where I go through the reasons for short or long hooklinks, whether you fish a parachute bag or not: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j8x5rJZ8ydmYaY0.html. Parachute bags are a very specific technique used for tall weed or very thick and very soft silt.
