Thank you for the tip. Long story short, I tried this stance because I didn't know that I was off balance before. I bowled my personal high today of a 262. with a 3 game score of 685. Most of the time I bowl around 180, until today.

Great video. I actually have been working on timing issues, and I saw this. I thought simplifying my setup would work really well hand-in-hand with the other adjustment I was trying to make. What an understatement! This has been tremendous as far as making all of my mechanics more consistent, and that's just over a 4-week period. As I get more and more used to this, I believe I'll improve drastically this year. Thanks for all of the videos and tips! You guys are great!

Awesome points! Especially the foot and hand position part. I see quite a few league bowlers (crankers) who constantly start their feet with the right foot back and with their hand really cupped or even twisted negatively on the inside part of the ball. You are right... whatever hand position you think your holding in the setup is lost during the back swing, I've seen that on my own videos from my practice sessions.

I've realized for a long time that a lot of my problems manifesting at the line were due to wonkiness at setup, but everything I tried to switch up on my own seemed to eventually regress to old behaviors. Basically bad habits that I developed at a young age, but could always power through and never knew I had to work on until my late 30s (THB, casual tourneys, not aspiring pro or anything). I'm four weeks into using the tips here on my setup. I'm not shattering my scores by any means, but the common sense approach to explaining it here has already helped immensely. It's like I can almost start focusing on improving aspects beyond my setup again.

Nice tips! The bonus tip on tossing the ball and catching it, to find your natural height to hold a ball makes a lot of sense! By doing that exercise we should find the strongest position where our arms would be to support the heavy weight that is the bowling ball. The way I see it, if you toss the ball up, your body naturally wants to catch the ball at the point where the arms will be at their strongest, as we subconsciously know that the bowling ball is a heavy weight coming down towards our feet. Hence the body wouldn't want to catch the ball too high, as our arms would lack the strength and support, or too low, as it would mean our back, or knees would have to bend and buckle down to catch the ball lower, making it a really unnatural position to catch that dropping, heavy weight.

I've been dealing with a lot of wrist pain due to bowling. I've tried different wrist supports so far and nothing has helped. The pain never comes while I'm actually bowling though. I'll be fine while I'm at the lanes but a couple hours later it will set in and it's usually at its worst the next morning. I just went a month without bowling, trying to let it fully heal and then went back again this past Saturday and I'm right back into the cycle. At this point I'm worried about possibly needing surgery. I don't have access to a coach nearby so any advice for Brad & Kyle or any viewers would be welcome!

I can vouch for wrist injuries from cupped wrist at setup...it’s a hard habit to break without a wrist guard. I wear that occasionally to stop me from cupping vs stopping the weak wrist.

Okay great tips. How would you attack the lane say if you were standing on 30 or 35 and trying to swing it to the 10 board? Do you walk up to 30 and 35 dots and release out to the 10 board or do you walk to the 10 board at a diagonal angle?
@JoeHolloway7
@JoeHolloway7 2 жыл бұрын
I think they have better videos for this question, but you're missing a variable in your question. Generally "drifting" with your feet is undesirable unless it's a consistent drift that you execute on every shot. What you're missing in your question is your mark at the arrows or front dots to create the correct angle when your breakpoint is the 10 board. You can swing to the 10 board all day long from anywhere, but if you aren't creating the proper entry angle it doesn't matter where you start with your feet. For example, your mark at the arrows might be 15, swinging to breakpoint at 10. Your footwork should get you lined up to hit the nearer mark with your swing mechanics projecting the ball through that mark to your breakpoint. If you're drifting more than a couple boards to do that, you're setting up in the wrong spot.

This is how I operate, simple is better. This game is already complicated enough trying to figure out what ball to use and oil pattern/breakdown. Why make it harder than it needs to be? Not to mention good stance or starting position takes less energy therefor reducing fatigue.

@arnielerman

I see, so in your world giving coaching tips means you have to have won a tour championship. That is bad news for all the certified coaches at the gold, silver and bronze level who teach across the country. Brad and Kyle are professional bowlers. I think they know what they are doing. I find it ironic that someone who has never participated in professional bowling feels he can freely call other professional bowlers losers.
