He thought that carbon dating was used for like dinosaur times... and that it was like burning a candle. That the decay started on one end and burned through to the other. Epic face palm. Couldn’t understand what a ratio was or how alpha decay worked so I stopped responding.

Don't forget, that we can also analyze critically important records the people of those places kept. For example, To accurately date the age of an olive tree, the vinyard owners knew this was a problem, so they came up with a really simple solution a long time ago: The original planter of an olive tree would write down and record exactly when they planted it. Then when that person sold it or was inherited by the next person, they would continue the paperwork trail by writing down dates, their name, and the previous owner who planted the tree. Each owner would do this and record dates and all previous owners for each olive tree they owned. This was often used by olive vineyard owners. These methods are entirely accurate because it was an honest eyewitness account. Which was critically important to the next owner of that olive tree. This method of dating any object is one of the most accurate dating methods, because it can even tell you the exact year and possibly even the hour of which the tree was planted. In ancient times, before we had BC and AD, they would use the current year of the reign of the current king, to record significant historical events. For example: "In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah was this passover kept." 2 Chronicles 35:19 KJV Therefore, we have an accurate way to date archeology by using this method.
@Uhlbelk4 жыл бұрын
What people claim they did and what was actually done are different. That is completely insufficient unless you took a second method and compared it, for trees you can count tree rings. Take for instance giant trees that were preserved in swamps/bogs. Well they are fallen so you can't date them from the present, you have the tree rings so you know how many hundreds or thousands of years old it was, but you need to place that lifetime within the context of a full history. In which case you can look for global events captured in the tree rings, large volcanic explosions leave specific chemical residues, certain solar events leave radiation residues. No single dating method is used for anything beyond modern records.
@theriveroffaith8524 жыл бұрын
Uhlbelk The problem with the tree ring claim, is that you cannot rely on dendrochronology. Olive trees for example, have many rings which cannot be counted. Therefore a written historical record is by far the most accurate way to determine the age of each olive tree planted, down to the hour it was planted. No other dating method is capable of doing this.
@Uhlbelk4 жыл бұрын
@@theriveroffaith852 You missed the point, the point isn't one is perfect and the other isn't. If I bought a olive farm, and someone said, this tree is 300 years old, look at this log book. I would say great, and then have it checked by tree rings to confirm. Written records is the LEAST reliable because they can simply be lied about. Art painting with the date written by the "artist"? Completely irrelevant until the paint is dated, the signature is checked, the paper and canvas are evaluated. Most of the time dating is fairly irrelevant, we have really good data for something, verified by multiple methods, and then we have a comparison of before or after. Yea, we have little reason to doubt a mundane historical date, a tax record for how many chickens were taken by a town 600 years ago is pretty irrelevant if it was on a specific day or if the author was lying or if they had a messed up calendar. If you are selling it to a museum as a medieval artifact, that date is completely irrelevant to the claim.
@theriveroffaith8524 жыл бұрын
Uhlbelk Uhh okay, but did you miss the point where they start the record when the tree is planted? Why would they delay recording the day it was planted and record it being planted much earlier or later? Or record it happening before it happened? The original date you plant the tree, is the most important date. Yes, it might be wrong, but if it is, it can mess up its original owner's perspective of how old it is. And when you complete your record when you go to sell it to a new owner, and the current date is not correct, it would be extremely obvious to both people making the transaction. It's like the toolboxes at my workplace. Two people take inventory of the toolbox, and both people record that they witnessed that no tools are missing and then one person locks the toolbox. It is by far the most efficient and most accurate way to know all the tools are there and no fod is in the toolbox and there are no broken tools. And by the way, tree rings of the olive tree, cannot be counted. The historical records are by far the most reliable way to date a living olive tree. Also the trees are sometimes grafted onto the stumps of previous older trees. So, the stump might be very old compared to the rest of the tree. The historical record is again by far the best way to date living olive trees.
